I think saying the whole car name "Subaru Legacy Spec B" once was enough on the start - maybe shorten it after the first time because it gets a little annoying
Love this engine/AWD in my 2008 OBXT. Yes an Outback but this one still has the S-Drive, unlike the new ones. Drove it on the track in SuperSharp mode for a day and my lap times were similar to other guys' with their Z06 Vettes and Cobra Mustangs. Oh well, I simply refrained from hard braking and simply slammed it through the corners.
Saabs cannot keep up with me, even the Aeros. It's all about the power delivery.
@Howie262 see that is where youre wrong. this is NOT subarus premier high performance sports sedan, the STi is. This car is for people that like to go fast but not look like a 17 year old kid when doing it. And why would anyone want a Saab, their old cars are pieces of shit, the new ones are better but you said you have a 2000. you have 320 lbs of torque, ok how much money did it take for you to get it that high? I have a spec b and it is so much better then my brothers 2001 Saab 95 in every way
I have this '08 and did performance tuning and performance exhaust. It truly is a race car in lamb's clothing, a blast to drive. And it kicks butt in snow and rain- can't beat it.
Good review, I own one of these cars (liberty as its called in Aust), spot on about the transmission...How many times do they say "2008 Subaru Legacy Spec B", I mean I know they are reviewing the car but I think that watching it we might have been aware of the make and model after the first few times!!
I've got a 2005 GT, one of the first ones to hit the States in July of 2004. 67k miles on it now, and the thing is just bulletproof. It still does not rattle or squeak, and the combination of the really tasteful and well thought out interior along with the power and handling makes me want to just keep driving it. It's long since paid off, and I don't even want another car. There's a reason the Legacy is one of the only cars all three Top Gear guys agree on. It's awesome.
I own this car, hands down best car I have ever owned and nearly best car I have ever even driven. This car has it all! the only thing missing is LED lights or halogens, a bit more of a NICER navi system. ( its not terrible though). other then that this is a steal in comparison to a 3 series, a benz, or some dressed up Honda, I mean Acura.
Hey, SoggiFry, I do not agree that the ride is stiffer in the spec.B; in fact it is actually more compliant over bumps and settles down better when pushed - give credit to the Bilsteins and alum alloy susp are amazing. Of course the SI-Drive in S-sharp, Torsen rear diff, ant a 6MT make for a fun drive. IOW, it is more than merely a suspension pkge
I have one and I absolutely love it, it is one of the biggest sleeper cars in the last decade. It's still smaller and much more hardcore than a Camry or Accord.
For those of you wondering, the only major difference between a regular GT and the Spec B is the suspension. The suspension for the Spec B has been stiffened for performance handling in mind. It makes for a bumpier but much more sporty ride.
I have a 2009 same color gray and its not even a spec b, but the comment about flying under the radar is not true. Just a month ago I was pulled over for going 10 over. Love the car though
Aint it the truth. That hood-scoop draws cops like flies. I have an 2005 you dont want to speed or drive this car after the bars close. I have been pulled over and followed 3x in the past month. I am 47 years old and drive responsibly.
I note that two negatives were no wagon and a clunky gearbox. I live in Australia and own a 08 Spec B wagon. The manual gearbox is a 6 speed STi box which is magnificant and silky smooth. Its interesting how the specifications can change bewteen countries.
I also note that there was no reference to why it is called a Spec B - this refers to the uprated Bilsten equiped suspension.
the 2.5GT SpecB is not (I REPEAT, IS NOT) a 6 cylinder engine. they have the 3.0 one that is a 6 cylinder, and it costs less. this particualar is a 4 cylinder and is as kickass as it gets!
when will subaru put a forced induction 6 cylinder in the legacy?? ive been a subaru fan for a long time but lately ive been looking at german sedans as my next car. 243 hp and 24mpg. my wrx has more hp and gets better mpg. subaru needs to step it up.
If all goes as planned, picking up 2 for me and my wife... Hers in pearl white, mine in quartz silver.... mmmmmmmm test drove one today and I'm in love.

Thats it???
dude my saab kicks the shit outa this XD, this is no match... LOL xD
lol it thought i could compare this to my year 2000 saab95, being that they're in the same class..... but its not.
@320 lbs of torque in my saab, this thing doesnt have a chance.
Wow, this being subaru's premier high performance sports sedan... thats a true failure...
now if you want a true turbo sedan , go saab, well... they invented the turbo anyhow.....

Doesn't the B have 6 gears instead of 5, or was that a 2005 to 2006 upgrade in general?
sirboomdotcom 2 years ago
@SoggiFry also it has a nicer interior, 6 speed manual, 18 inch wheels.

The 2008 Legacy Spec. B has a 6 speed manual and an SI Drive. It pretty much has the same power as the 2005 though.
