  • And what does Mr. Buckley think, in retrospect, about endorsing Obama?

  • Why try politics when you're selling books? I think it works the other way. FIRST you become a politician, THEN you write books that sell. Buckley is a good writer, in the sense that he always seems to pick a subject that the political (or someone who likes to consider themselves political) reader would choose off the shelf. But in so far as satire and humor, I find him dull and lacking in persona. I should have taken the book back, but I didn't. To quote his dad, "why don't we complain"?!!

  • I looked, and your right. I'm shocked! I'll look into Baldwin. Thanks!

  • hehe...that dude was on the Daily Show yesterday. Pretty funny guy. I'll give "Supreme Courtship" a read sometime.

  • The way this lady talks is such an annoying mix of cliche and "B student at Hofstra pseudo-sophistication." It is like listening to someone scratch a blackboard.

  • Christopher Buckley is the son of William F. Buckley, Jr.

  • Dear Mr. Buckley thank you for voting OBAMA It's a kick in the nuts to the Right(facists) and a blessing to see a conservative who has seen the light!

  • he has the same facial ticks as his father and he's right - who would want to be the next president considering the massive shitpile that will be left to him come next january. we desperately need to come together as a nation instead of an internecine gaggle of screaming, blogging hordes and slowly climb out of this mess. what's the chance of that happening???

  • Christopher Buckley:

"While I regret this development, I am not in mourning, for I no longer have any clear idea what, exactly, the modern conservative movement stands for. Eight years of "conservative" government has brought us a doubled national debt, ruinous expansion of entitlement programs, bridges to nowhere, poster boy Jack Abramoff and an ill-premised, ill-waged war conducted by politicians of breathtaking arrogance."

  • Christopher Buckley resigns from the magazine his father founded, the National Review!

And he quotes Ronald Reagan: "I haven't left the Republican Party. It left me."

  • He shows both intelligence and courage to call it like it is. I think he should start his career in politics.

  • Chris Buckley can join Ron Reagan in short list of high profile conservative traitors. He has no soul.....

  • October 10, 2008 - Christopher Buckley formally endorses Barack Obama . . .

"Sorry, Dad, I'm Voting for Obama: The son of William F. Buckley has decided—shock!—to vote for a Democrat."

  • Hey ! Nobel Prize for french writer JMG Le Clézio !

  • Man. He seems funny and smart. Man. You're funny and smart.

  • Resident, I just find your intelligence & wit charming. Which is very refreshing and attractive. It's good to know there are women out there that can be beautiful and smart. It gives me hope for the guys looking for someone with substance.

  • tackman06 and crazilocity, I feel obligated to point out to both of you, as well as anyone else that doesn't know, that we don't live in a democracy, we live in a constitutional republic.

  • He said thats what I said. I never said America was a democracy. Pay attention.

  • Who will have the Nobel Prize on thursday ?

  • As usual you're adorable. Thanks for the insight.

  • Great video. Very insightful. I will definitely try to read some of his books.

  • Thanks for the video! I'm going to go download Supreme Courtship on my Kindle right now.

  • If William F. Buckley Jr.'s son can vote for Obama, I'd say that's progress!

Maybe this is the year for ALL Republicans to "vote for the man rather than blindly voting for the party".

  • Chris Buckley seems like a really interesting guy. The Policitains are the same as the average person. Even though I live in the UK Im really glad he is supporting Obama in the next Presidental election.

  • Wow - what a clever summary - bravo... very subtle but effective - I wonder how many have caught the quasi-subliminal message or if most just miss it, or if they are aware of something but not quite sure what it is - how long did it take you to work it out?

  • I read "Thank You for Smoking" and thought it was great. Good work with this, Res!

  • If I hadn't read otherwise recently I would have never thought Buckley would have sided with Obama. Shocking. I wonder if you had asked the same question with "McCain" in the sentence if he would have said the same thing. Sad to see the father of modern conservatism's son saying that. One last thing, he might be upset that McCain isn't a conservative, but look no further than Palin. My voice is still hoarse from screaming her praises at a Rally. She is the only hope for reform in the race.

  • chris buckley, son of "william f. buckley," i don't think i saw or heard a reference to that...just how far do you really think the apple can fall from that tree? I haven't read his books (his father dabbled in fiction as well) so i can't say that he's liberal or conservative but i have a hunch that it will be a cold day in hell before he votes for obama! LONG LIVE BLACKFORD OAKES!

  • You should read "Take on the Street" By former Clinton appointed head of the SEC Arthur Levitt. He will all but tell you Clinton did nothing to help the economy. What Clinton did do was sign NAFTA into law which is a debacle even by Hillary Clintons standards and in 1999 change the law(that enacted by the government after the 1929 stock market crash) so that banks could once again sell mortgages to wall street, and we all see how well that worked out.

  • Our political system is the best in the world. Ask people from other countries when the last time they got to vote for their leader was. You are so easily mislead its amazing. Instead of reading books you do nothing but totally agree with and watching Olbermann all day. You should see what other people in this country think. Get outside your comfort zone a bit and see if your theory holds true in reality.

  • What experience do you have in other countries? Contrary to popular belief in the US, America is not the only democracy. As an American living outside the United States, I know from experience that there is democracy in other countries. You should get out of your comfort zone and do a little research. America is now the most dangerous country in the world because of narrow minded people that buy into the government rhetoric. I am enjoying life in a free country outside the United States.

  • I never said America is the only democracy pay attention you idiot.

  • I'll not have a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

  • Thats great. You have any more bumper stickers you want to read? The real reason is you are not prepared to defend your ignorant comments.

  • At least I don't have to resort to name calling.

  • Well at least you are admitting you are not prepared to defend your ignorant comments.

  • Here is some help in expanding your vocabulary since all you are able to call me is an idiot.

ignoramous, dimwit, golem, mentally defective, cretin, dolt, peabrain, dunderhead, oaf, imbecile, or you could try adding some adjectives and call me a congenital idiot, or a blithering idiot. I hope this helps your ability to develop an intelligent arguement. Good luck in the future. I know these probably all apply to me since I'm discussing this with someone with a limited intelectual capacity.

  • Wow you either have a thesaurus or many other people pointed how stupid you are in the past as well. Good for them

  • You have not been paying attention to what is goin on here. Watch the news most news stations hate bush and bash all his policies. If we a "narrow minded people that buy into the government rhetoric" would this be happening. You are showing your complete ignorance even for someone who lives in Mexico. That country is so great its people are flocking here. We sent some back and Mexico complained that it can't handle them. What a great country Mexico is.

  • Haven't heard of Buckley before but it sounds worth reading. Thanks.

  • "I've never seen the show..." (Judge Judy)

  • Will do. =)

  • I'm impressed with myself that I found you and subscribed. I've come across great channels that post every now and then, but yours is the only channel I've found that is frequent and constantly provocative and entertaining.

I wish the world could have one tenth of your insight.

    Brilliant!

    Yak

  • Thanks so much, that's really nice to hear!

  • Awesome!

  • I've never heard of Christopher Buckley. Now I have to check out his books.

  • Who did he say he was gonna go vote for? I couldnt make it out.. and i replayed it a few times.

  • He said "I think I may vote for him" referring to Obama.

  • Yes, he said Obama. :)

  • wonderful, another vote for the shady man.

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • uknow what?...I think I WILL go read his books :P

  • haha, awesome. They're really great.

  • i get the resident to represent

    :)

  • His stuff is reminiscent, although a bit more slapstick, of early Vonnegut before Kurt got really cranky. Enjoy.

  • stop reading and start living reality , what in the two hard bar'sk'it

just take your pill , and you will feel better if your a psychopath ,so funny,

laugh at your own pain not others ,

  • Awesome! I just started reading his works, too. I love them.

  • What about Bob Barr? I realize he's a third party candidate who isn't a billionaire, but we DO have more than two choices!!! Take advantage of them!!! If you think Obama and McCain are more of the same, then vote for someone else!

  • Finally, someone that think for a change!! Thank you. Even if Barr isn't for everyone, at least he's something different...there are three others besides him, McCain and Obama.

  • Not my cup of tea, but the video was really put together well :)

  • Thats wonderful of him to let you tape!

  • great video--thank you for the recommendation!

  • Very good video, best part at 4:20 : "Yeah ?". Ha ha ! Just kidding. But the Perpetual Secretary of Swedish Academy attributing the Nobel Prize said that American writers were too much ignorant for winning a Nobel prize... Very bad guy, isn't it ?

  • I'm definitely going to check his work out now. I've been needing something to read for a while anyway. THANK YOU! :D

  • Hmm I love your work Res; great video, and thanks for introducing me to his work. Keep up the great videos!!

  • Hey Lori! Thanks for the review! I had vaguely heard of Buckley's work before this vid. Now I think I just might actually have a reason to go back to B & N.

Hey btw...that bil you had your panties in a bunch about passed..yay America...see ya in the breadlines!!! ;)

  • can you pleased convert his books into video...

  • I'm fairly certain that the chances of him voting for Obama are about as great as those of a snowball's chance of surviving in hell.

Nice of him to humor the pretty young lady, though.

  • He reminders me of his dad. I hope you read National Review.

  • your videos just get better and better!

  • Hello,Lori. I am so glad you and he realise thet the world is so "bucked" up...

  • hahaha

  • Thanks, Lori. Fun video!

  • good stuff

  • lol you should be careful who you refer to as a 'colossal system bucker' if they are hard of hearing it might not go down too well=)

  • satire makes for easy reading, so why not

    book recommendations are always good

  • Thanks for the intro to Mr. Buckley. Definitely a fascinating author. We need more like him to point out how twisted the logic in our world really is.

  • Buck'em Res!!

  • What I love most about thank you for smoking is the way he turns language into a non-violent weapon of character manipulation. A great movie. Now thanks to you Laurie I am inspired to check out his books. Cheers!

  • Thanks!

  • I've got 7 books in my to-read pile (the smallest it's been in forever), but I think I've just found my eight-and-onwards.

  • I've been meaning to read his stuff for a while. Isn't his dad the late William F. Buckley?

  • Yup.

  • Is Chirstoper Buckley your hero?

  • Just loved the way you gave your words more power by "illustrating" them.

  • (4:36) My God ... it's the Equalizer!

  • I'd never heard of the guy. I'll definitely check him out this weekend. :)

  • Christoper buckley...hm...I wanna read his books. but.......I'm a Corean so...I have to um.....

  • I have to order a copy of his books...

but it will be given to me in a week .:(

  • I was thinking about reading something from Christopher Buckley and I'm glad this vid is here. I will go to the library now!

  • He's awesome.
