  • good to hear Christ! i support you message. I support Restoration i support other things. But I do not support Mental Heath Awareness whatsoever in Australia!. The booklet the units use is if you tend to normal behaviors to get you. the living with illness say this person might watch tv late at night. The psychiatry will look for garbage like this for the assessment. they think antisocial is some with no friends. which is not. Ask to explain they will dodge. TV writers have it so right!

  • you people are scum. fair is fair but your turning anything in mental illnesses on innocent people. you and your 1 in 3 and do you tend to. playing doctors. dodging questions. your the same as villains on wall street. What excludes your as the illness of your madness.

  • @CliveGains80s may I ask to whom you are calling scum??

  • in Australia they can't wait to take you even if you not so called 'ill'. why not ship them here. i don't mean scum concerning 'this' message. but this crusade out there to turn everything in to a mental illness is corrupt. anti psychiatry will bring you down. . these creeps that just make up more 'do you tend to' and more illness up every year are scum. you do not need be a treat to self or others. when someone shaves is not a symptom, noncompliance is not a symptom. you scum!

  • @CliveGains80s that is sad and I am very aware that their is very bad science out there that analyzes normal behavior and claims that it is not normal or that it is a mental illness .. this is one of the things that i am strongly against and I also advocate against as well! It is going to take people standing up against these money making schemes to put a stop to it! Because it is all about making the money not about the concern for people!

  • The human brain is amazing! Dr's and other mental health professionals are continuing to learn. More and more is discovered about the intricacies of brain; we are better able to help the mentally ill.

  • hi, i have started a facebook group call depression - how do ppl feel about how we cope in jersey with this illness- i have shared you video in the group... i want ppl not to b ashamed about this illness and try to make ppl know it is a common illness in todays living x

  • @Genn08 I absolutly assure you, prison's are overflowing with mentally ill Persons. I have seen and experienced it with my own eye's. Quite often people are charged with crimes, that in reality are syptomatic of their mental state. It's just they didn't have a rich mummy & daddy or the money to buy "Justice" the point you miss, is as aristotle once wrote " the law is equal in it's majestic blindness, it forbids both Rich and Poor to sleep in the gutter"

  • There is only one hospital in my county which serves three counties. Recently, a private, for-profit corporation took over the mental health system because the state would not fund the county appropriately. If a suicidal patient comes in to that hospital and he does not have insurance, he is turned away to a 24 hour facility where no meds are distributed unless the patient had the good sense during their crisis to bring their own. Food is substandard. Patients sleep in recliners.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I can relate to this video because I have to deal with it in my own family. It is so complicated. People that don't deal with it just can't understand how it is. Mental illness comes in so many forms. A person can seem perfectly alright as you see them on the street, or in a crowd. There are degrees of mental illness. All can be deadly, if not treated. Many end up in jail for various reasons. With my loved one it was due to drug use. Many use to escape

  • Well done.

  • Thank you so much for submitting this. It is vital.

  • amazing video, thanks so much for it, I hope people take notice...

  • I think this is a very intelligent and respectable video, but human history doesn't agree or allow for any kind of change in the wolr.d

  • I have spent time in jail needing mental health help. I could not get the help i needed but i was locked up without hesitation. Jail hurts people that need help

  • Um Genn08 ur an ignorant idiot and dont know what ur talking about. I'm studying a criminology degree and in Brixton prison last year ,80 prisoners were referred to mental hospitals. A physicatrist has stated that 4% of the prison popluation in the UK should be recieving mental health care. so why dont you do your research.. before you spout ur silly mouth off. :)

  • I can tell you this is true. I've had many police officers threaten to handcuff me and take me to a mental hospital just because I am not stable.

The responses to things is simple - if there were no beds available - I would be forced to sit in jail until once was available.

Some places have special rooms for mentally ill patience - but they do not leave with their dignity ... They'll strip you down into your boxers and sit you in the cell because "Your a danger to yourself" its sad ...

  • my son have severe conduct disorder and it is really hard on everyone inclueding him but I love him still and pray he will get better soon and do everything I can to help him fight it

  • Great video....just great video. Its very educational. Im happy, i watched your video. I give it a 5 star!

  • Well done, thou faithful servant!

  • I work at a local hospital where I evaluate and admit psych patients in the ER......while I agree that we need more funding and better staffing nobody in need of treatment is ever turned away. If our hospital is full I transfer the patient or hold them in th ER until there is an available bed on the unit. We do our very best and appreciate continued efforts to advocate for the mentally ill.

  • @marysjunk

It does not help when people stigmatise mental illness. The media give a bad impression of the mentally ill, and it causes more problems.

The mentally ill do not belong in police cells, and should be motivated to get better and get integreted in society.

I am glad to hear that you advocate for this important cause. Thank you.

  • I don't know which hospital you work in but I have had so many experiences where my son was turned away after I took him in during an episode. HE convinced the nurse that he was OK. They're good at that! They don't want to be there and that's part of the illness.

  • @marysjunk I think that is wonderful that the hospital you work at provides such services but finding hospitals like that is hard to come by. In many places the ER is over-run and under staffed and in small rural areas hospitals are usually struggling just with basic funding and as well not enough staff. So your hospital is ideal but that is not the case for many! I would hope that one day all hospitals would become more efficient on handling cases concerning Mental Illness!

  • @marysjunk

But how many of these people are in actual NEED?

I know someone who went to the ER because they were in a depressed mood, and they were unsure of how to go about seeking someone to talk to about it. He functioned perfectly fine, he was simply concerned something MIGHT be wrong.

Well, the hospital decided to try and keep him against his will, though he was perfectly fine. They even tried telling him that not wanting to be held was part of a disorder.

  • @marysjunk

He was there almost 48 days before they decided nothing was wrong. He got a $1000 hospital bill he couldn't afford. And had a lot of his friends turn on him after he told them the story.

He never took any meds, never saw any doctors or was ever actually diagnosed with anything, and now he's a defense attorney.

There was nothing wrong with him, he just bought into all the BS he was told about mental illness, and the system almost ruined his life because he sought "help".

  • @DaedalEVE

Sorry, I mean 48 hours... not days.

  • I totally agree with you! There are so many things in the world that we need to find money to change... BUT... they say that they don't have the money, and yet they're constantly doing stuff like construction, etc. And don't get me wrong at all, physical disorders/illnesses are a lot more life threatening... cancer, diabetes, etc, BUT I rarely ever hear anyone speaking up for mentally ill people! I have OCD over MANY things, some aren't very serious

  • 3.3 million people NATIONWIDE suffer from OCD! Mental disorders really need a little more awareness! Isn't suicide the 2nd or 3rd main cause of US deaths? Is that true? Someone said that, but I'm not sure.

  • THIS IS HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW. I have been refused treatment due to the "complexity" of my disorder. I was sent to a locked ward with two men, one violent , without heat, without clothes except a gown in front of a window in the middle of winter as there were no beds. i was trapped in a locked room, my crime? not having the connections for a better degree of care. Right now i've been told to accept that i may die waiting for care.

I was supposed to be a doctor but now i'm near death.

  • ~RememberSiberian7, i noticed you removed a few of your comments which were a bit tough on the channel owner, thankyou for that. I'd bet serious money that Nikki would have had a few trials with the psych-scene also, even as i have. Check out the vid-Jesus and me "facing bipola".(i am tried & numb). My faith and hope in Jesus Christ has done more for me than any Doctor or drugs. If you have a bible check Isaiah ch53v3 "man of sorrows, aquainted with grief". Thanks again for showing you care.

  • ~RememberSiberian7, - whyle there is some merit to some of your comments, the general tone seems to lack geniune compassion & or understanding. I think you will find the general thrust of this channel is to enlighten the general public of the complexity of mental health. History may be your speciality, however mental health has come leaps & bounds in the last 10 years or so thanks to kind souls showing sincere care. As a result of such care many who may have died? live to share & help others.

  • Thanks for posting this. It is relevant and educational. To argue with the lack of care for mental illness in today's society is a wasted effort. Let's all accept the challenge and look for ways to serve.

  • I am fucken mentally ill.

You have no real control over it.

Your control is, don't do drugs that make you crazy, or take your pills so you don't go crazy.

    thats fucken it.

I could of sworn every instinct in my body was telling me the cops were gonna kill me if i didnt control myself and put my hands behind my back.

fuck cops, if i was a tough looking thug with a long violent history they would of shown me more respect.

how primitive the human race is.

  • By you saying that they go to jail because of lack of beds in the mental health centre...well...your giving off the impression to people that this does happen...when in reality...it doesn't. They are well cared for regardless of their environment.

  • Matter of fact the reason I did this video was because a man died waiting for a bed and no the community hospitals where i live do not take them in...

  • Well, I guess its different for the communitees around you. Here we respect our patients and try to give them the best possible service. I am bipolar and I am really happy with the services around here. The community hospitals here take people with a mental illness in if the mental health centre does not have a bed. Simply because they don't deserve to go to jail. Sorry. I just guess I forgot the some places are different from others.

  • @4givennChrist this is so sad and heart broken :-(

  • @Genn08

    Bullshit. This DOES happen ...

IN response to myself being suicidal in school - there was a police officer on duty that clearly stated he'd cuff me and take me down town until I either could be xfered to a mental health facility or could be deemed as stable and not a danger to myself. If a bed was not available, or they couldn't take me in at the time I'd be forced to sit there ...

This shit does happen. Dont try and sugar coat it like it dont ...

  • Perhaps in some places yes. And perhaps in all places that is the intent. But I can tell you from PERSONAL experience being that I work in a jail in a small county. If someone goes to chancery court and takes out papers on someone for being mentally unstable and states that they are a danger to themselves or others papers can and generally are made out and the individual is picked up and held in the local county jail until they are evaluated. Once evaluated they are either released or held

  • @Genn08 no they are not that is why there is a grassroots movement here in America that has been formed to fight this ... along with many other things. Many of the individuals who end up in a jail cell for a mental health evaluation are not taking care of simply because the jailers are not "Doctors or nurses" .. they have many other duties that require their time thus often the person who needs mental health medical care is ignored and often treated as a criminal! I know this from first hand!

  • This is not true. I have stood by a family member who was sick. There were no beds. Guess where he went....Jail. The mental health system sucks. I am not "giving the impression" that this happens. IT DOES HAPPEN. Not sure which world you live in.

  • @whiskeyft I totally agree with you because it does happen .. here in the state that I live in it happens every single day ... I know this for a fact because my husband works at the local sheriff's office! I am not sure what planet Genn08 lives on but I surely wished that what he said was true because if it was true then I would not have made this video nor would I have a need to be an advocate. Thank you for comment!

  • People with mental illness who cannot get a bed in a mental health hospital do not go to jail and wait. Jail is simply for criminals. They go to the community hospital and wait there. Even if there isn't a bed for them. I know this because I work within a mental health hospital. I suggest you do more research before posting a video. Don't try to educate people about something that you don't really know anything about.

  • Step into reality Sis, whyle many are well catered for in mental health hospitals, many fall threw the cracks. If you hadn't noticed most western countrys are in huge debt. This heartless ignorant comment of yours is why videos like this are posted. The ever increasing number of people needing help is greater than the help available in many cases. Not all, but many who live on the city streets or park benches often have underlying mental health issues.

  • Genn08 I am not sure where you are getting your information or for that fact if you are being sincere about what you post here. But in reality yes this does happen. I know first hand!!! I dont have to have a stastics chart to tell me..

  • I work in a jail and can tell you for a fact they can and DO go to jail for this by order of the chancery court if papers are taken out by family. I suggest you do more research before you call someone a lie. Not sure where you live but here in MS there is not enough funding for the mental hospitals and they do have to wait in a county jail in some cases until a bed is available.

  • Woahh,

    This struck me..

I have shizophrenia and severe depression... but... i live in australiaa. they get you help straight away.. they dont send you to gaol..everyone knows that Gaols are for criminals, not people who are mentally ill.

  • whats the title of the song??

  • away from the sun by 3 doors down :)

  • cops kill alot of people who have mental illness.they take all their frustrations out on them.they beat them to death or hang them and then tell their families that they killed themselves.its really sad.the last person i would want to help me is a cop.cops got serious issues to began with and they turn into bullies and abuse the very people they are suppose to protect.the mentally ill are helpless in jail and hopeless.i hope one day that this will change.

  • You've named my greatest fear... dying without anyone caring. I only have a minor mental health disorder, it doesnt affect me very much, but it gives me enough incite into this to really be terrified...

  • i think my sister has someting like this.. she just so strange, she actually freaks me out and u feel nervous around.. if som1 tink dey cud help nd talk to her send me a personal msg nd i giv her msn coz she wont talk to me

  • I was psychotic (Bipolar Type I) and tried to break into a house that I thought was mine. I was in jail hallucinating and highly delusional. Instead of helping me the officers made fun of me and decided to spray me with lice spray one night. I now have a criminal record and I can't get a job. I was TORTURED. I have a college degree and I am on welfare.

  • The answer is that regardless of what people do or don't do - we have a loving, good Creator God in Jesus Christ. He has the ability to change lives, minds and hearts and give new life when we believe upon Him and call upon Him in faith.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

  • this really hits it on the spot mental illness can affect anyone at anytime. so dont rule yourself out or say that will never happen to me. well yes it can and it can happen to you in the blink of an eye. we all need to stand together as one and let our voices be heard!!!

  • very well said and done. i'm so scared.

  • society around all disabilitys must change its approach i have worked with people who are death blind have a phisical disability or learning difficulties also people experinceing mental health issues all of which are now contributing members of a society that held them down for so long dont give up this is your fight and united you will win ITS THE SAME OLD I CANT DO YOU CANT DO BUT (WE!!!!!!!!!!!!!)CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

  • I experienced postpartum depression after the birth of my second son. The hospital's response? To call the state police, have me put in cuffs and leg irons, and drag me a hundred miles from my home to be locked in a dirty facility and drugged into incoherence. It happens, it happens every day, and it happens right here in America.

  • Very poignant video, awareness and acceptance that mental health care should be considered by insurance co.s and health care professionals the same as any serious human illness. There should be no stigma, everyone deserves a healthy happy life. My 21 year old sister died because of lack of proper treatment.

  • i live with it every day too and it makes me want to yell as loudly as i can CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND THIS IS A HEALTH CRISIS! nobody seems to be listening, but the more voices that chime in the louder the message becomes

  • Yes I agree as the old saying goes the squeakiest wheel is what is dealt with first. Eventually someone will listen and things will get done!

  • THANK YOU for posting this. this is my daily fight for beating a stigma and my life's work. i am glad to see more people advocating for those to speak up and examine their world. KUDOS to you for this!

  • You are welcome . . . I fear this in my own life to be honest. Were I live a man really did die while waiting for medical treatment.

I have bipolar 1 and this is a reality in my life. No I havent been put behind bars but it could happen. and it is not fair!
