Hmmmm. $23 for some nail polish remover, (rubbing alcohol works just as well and less likely to damage the rubber), q-tips, a few match sticks, some graphite from a pencil in a sol'n, and packaging?
$23.00 is way more than $10.95 but you likely would have made WAAYYY more $ with a fair price. (and not mentioning "match sticks".
16MAR11 - I was searching for how to open a Samsung remote control (BN59-00673A). If you have this remote, please note there are 2 screws keeping it together.
One screw is in the batteries compartment under the latch, the other screw is hidden under the sticker on the bottom side that says:
"IF THE LIGHT BUTTON IS SET 'ON', ...BATTERY IS RECOMMENDED."
I used about 5 credit cards instead of a dull knife to wedge remote apart. It helped me discover the 2nd screw and kept me from breaking it!
I put a thin film of my wife's nail polish hardener on the key pad and sprinkled very fine pencil graphite on it. On the last button,--- I found it easier to leave the graphite spread out on a little piece of paper, them I filmed the hardener on the pad and just turned it over and pressed it onto the graphite. Let it set a bit, clean up gently.
the problem with my remote is that i hav lost the bulb thingy on it!!!any one know how to replace it with something which would make it work again????cz without the bulb the remote dznt wrk!!plzzzz helppp.....
@humantorchid That "bulb thingy" is not really a bulb, it is an Infrared LED (Light Emitting Diode). They are not hard to find and are pretty interchangeable (universal). The only critical thing is to make sure the polarity is right. Unfortunately, without an IR detector card or circuit, you can't see it working, but you'll know when you point it at the appliance it's supposed to operate.
The remote is 15yo and had been unused and stored in a box for years. Buttons would work after maybe the 20th press on freshly charged batteries. I took it apart and put rubbing alcohol on a paper towel. Rubbed the circuit board. Brown nasty stuff came off. Repeated till no more discoloration on towel. Used fingernail behind alcohol soaked paper towel for the rubber button pad. I reassembled everything immediately, as alcohol evaporates that quickly. WORKED LIKE BRAND NEW, every button.
It depends on whether you can live with a universal remote and without whatever functions it's missing. Replacements for the original can cost a fortune (as can some really elaborate universal ones). $23 would be worth it for anyone who needs to use an expensive and/or un-reliable remote and doesn't want to mess with the kind of hacking I mentioned below. I try to use the cheap universal one when I can and save the original for when it's absolutely necessary.
i fixed all the old remotes in my place by disassembling them and then rubbing alcohol embedded in a paper towel over the circuit board and regular dish detergent over the rubber buttons... all worked like out of the box afterwards... why do you pick acetone instead of alcohol?
I assume it's some kind of conductive paint. I just used aluminum foil and double sided tape (foil duct tape would also have worked), but that might not work with well with all remotes. Acetone is a little better at cutting through dirt and oil than alcohol, but either can work. My Panasonic (like many newer ones) has conductive paint rather than gold etches under the keys; I'm not sure how well it would hold up to acetone; alcohol seemed to slowly dissolve it, but the remote survived.
i have a DVD remote that is almost completely damaged, most of the buttons doesn´t work, and the worst part is that i can´t find a universal remote for my DVD, what can i do?

Have you ever repaired a Denon RC-969 remote? I need to figure how to open this particular one.

If you don't want to buy the solution you could use a pencil to recode the buttons; it works like magic........ ;-)

What is that repair solution made of? That kit sounds way too expensive. Will alcohol work in place of acetone?

If your remote doesn't have any screws then all you should have to do is use a butter knife to pry apart the two halves.
