You couldn't be more right! I suffered with lower back issues for about 5 years. I tried yoga and various back exercises; but it was the wheel that saved my life. I strengthened my back enough to do 15 to 20 reps, going all the way down to an almost flat position. I've been doing this for about a year; 2X a week for 3 sets each time. I feel 15 years younger!
you can get the Golds Gym version in the weights section at Walmart for $7....Easy to assemble and works great

your back should be slightly bent and arms straight in order to lower the risk of back pain when you roll in and out. i.e a crunch motion.
