  • i love ian curtis. i after his death..

i didnt even brother listening to new order..

New Order has no light like JD did :(

  • Where would Joy Divison be today!

    Would New Order exist?

Impossibable questions to answer - both created music before their times.

  • best version and tribute on YouTube of JD's Ceremony ... thanks for posting it 8 )-- ~~~

  • One thing that doesnt seemed to be commented on very often is how stylish Joy division were especially Curtis, coupled with the fact that he was very photogenic, made for a powerful mix. I always thought they looked incredibly cool (I first got into them in 1983) and that hasnt changed even with the march of time. I loved to know where Curtis got his clothes (somewhere in Manchester?) I dont recall anyone else looking quite like Joy Division before or since.

  • Omg joy division change my life 360 degrees :)):))):))):)))

  • @somewereonlywenow 360 degrees puts you facing the same direction you started at....

  • RIP IAN! YOU STILL ARE THE BEST FOR ME!

  • 30 Years ago today we lost Ian. What a waste. His music lives on.

  • i love love love this song!!! makes me feel so sad though...and nostalgic...RIP IAN!!! never forgotten, always loved...

  • why?... why was I born to the wrong generation?

  • really good video. sad though:(

  • Love Him...

    And great video!

  • like van goh in painting

    ian curtis in music

  • Here are the young men....

  • R.I.P Ian the best band ever......

  • Awesome video! RIP Ian!

  • beautiful version! I've been listening too joy division every day now since I discovered them about a year ago, and didn't stopped listening too them. all of theyre songs are amazing, powerfull and simply the best music made in +30 years. It's a shame they are not credited more for theyre work because they influenced some major bands since...

  • fucking A mate

  • Shit, this is beautiful.

  • this is new order not joy division.

    but still beautiful

  • but this the first single released after they saw everything torn apart in front of them. Only the lyric itself can absolutely tell about what they suffered from Lan's dicision. Not only Lan who was affected but the rests also. So, this New Order's version was like commemorating for Lan's death - - -then i don't know why u left such a fucking comment insulting the remaining members who did stand with Lan and made one of the influenced band in music history?

  • fighting suicidal depression.probably shouldnt be watching Joy Division

  • i often think of what new order could have been and where they may have taken music but they already did it. i watch radiohead singing ceremony and i know the best band will never be forgotten

  • Hi Ian , how are you? .....gracias por ubicar a todas las generaciones .... The Best

  • Thanks for sharing! Alng with new order's best song Ceremony, u could have used Atmosphere from J.D. But it's the feeling that counts after all! Ian Forever!

  • ceremony is a joy division song

  • excelente cancion!! y memorable grupo

  • greAT ORIGINAL VERSION AND REFLECTIVE MONTAGE

Thanks it brings back memories od my favourite song of all time

  • che chitarra era quella di ian?

  • Ian is playing a Vox Phantom ;) very rare guitars...but wicked looking!

  • great job.. thx

  • here was a young man who could not cope with the pressures of life ... oh well

  • How do you how he felt, how do you know what went on in his mind? What he did made sense only to him at the time.

  • well if he could cope with the pressures he would be still alive today...simple

  • bi polar is tough, my exwife tried 4 times to kill herself. 5th time successful.

  • ya but i doubt he was actually bipolar...the last 12 mths of his life was running 100 miles per hour with gigs, the band , fame ,wife and new child ,girlfriend, alcohol...thats why he died ...it was all too fast for him

  • I A N C U R T I S . . .

  • dont you love listening to this song...really loud, in the car, with the windows rolled down, and you're alone, and there's no one else on the street, and everything is perfect

  • That song always brakes my heart :(

  • You and many other hearts...

  • In reply to michaelstmark: probably yes, he was too good for this world. And for this reason he should have stayed. But he had already given so much...

  • Yeahh exactly=(

  • Another dead genius--the list is too long.

  • i like the vid i like to see people actualy doing something nice for ian insted of calling him a twat and im one of the biggest fans of joy division and most manchester bands i was brought up in the "scene" but its changed now all the clubs have closed down and and the shity posh bands...i recantly got a joy division tattoo...sorry for the randomness...

  • Like Van Gogh, Hendrix, Lennon and Bruce Lee, Ian was too good for this world.

All truly creative people would wish they'd had the chance to meet this guy in S. Manchester in '79/80.

  • Amazing selected images of his impressive, deep, mystic looking eyes and peculiar body language. They fit perfectly this theme Ceremony, written by I.C. and amazingly interpreted by New Order. This was probably "meant" to happen this way. Several talented artists have composed/written their own Requiem, always performed by others after their death. He and his "deaththeme" (as I feel it) have achieved this same status.

  • It's breathtaking...This video sent a chill down my spine. Well done and thanks for sharing.

  • this is the first time i have heard this song! amazing

  • Once Ian had placed that rope around his neck he had sealed the legendary status of Joy Division forever! I am a massive Joy Division and New Order fan, but let's face it, everyone who dies young achieves cult status, James Dean, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly - all extremely talented but imagine if they had survived how different their paths may have been. I saw the film last night! Brilliant! My bro is in it he was the only one to reply to Ian Curtis's ad for a bass player in 1978.

  • Yes, there early deaths did add to their legend and icon status, but all those you mentioned had cult status before they died. They had something about them that made them cool, special and unique. I always wonder how Joy division would have turned out if Curtis had lived. Sadly, we will never know.

  • what has that got to do with anything? i was on about his suicide and want to be remembered as a tragic character, so YAWN indeed mate!

  • OK, whatever. You've got a point! Your initial post was just a little incoherent.

  • before any of you start hurlingabuse at me save your breaths because I am a huge Joy Division fan...however...

Ian curtis is indeed a tragic character but he set out to die. He wanted to kill himself from a very young age and go down and be remembered. The most tragic of all is the srting of affairs and the child he left behind.

Ian curtis i love you but you're also a fucking prick

  • Yeah, yawn! Like Curtis was and is up until now the the first rock singer to have an extra-marital affair. No other singer has done that, and all other rock stars have led such honourable and blameless lives(not that that makes it right of course, but come on!)

  • Time to say that Ian wrote the lyrics, but the voice on this is Bernard (Barney) Sumner (Albrecht). It was fully recorded by New Order after Ian's passing.

  • the deepest person ever. long live joy division

  • gritty but pretty

  • melancolic, introspective ..make you feel emotions..touches you inside..perfect way of happiness..!

    joy division = the teachers

  • how much i would give to see them in live...

  • wow wish i had the chance 2 c em! xxx

  • That was really good. Some great shots of Ian. Very nicely done. I saw Joy Divison play

at Trinity Hall in Bristol a couple of months before her died. Unforgettable. Love to all who miss him xxx

  • rip lan

  • I like this version of Ceremony, what album is this version from?

  • it is the version New Order did on there first album after ian's death

  • Single, not album,

  • there is somthing wrong with this video.

  • Why won't this video play?

  • Brilliant!!!I love Joy Division!!!

    Thanks for uploading this !!!

  • What song is this?

  • ceremony by new order x

  • GENIUS! Sometimes I wonder what will happen if he had lived...

  • Esta es la última canción que hicieron. La canción es de Joy Division aunque New Order la

    grabo en estudio.

  • If dogme could be transfered from film-making to music, then Joy division can be hailed as its epitome. Their beauty is in their simplicity. The beauty of four guys getting down to basics and putting all their heart, feelings and emotion into their music. Nothing else needed. Such simplicity, yet so much achieved, and so much given. Such beauty: such is Joy Division!

  • dis makes me weep

  • DESde ESpaña, no tienes ni puta idea, el homenaje es genial y la cancion es de Joy Division, no de New Order. Gilipollas. Aprende un poco y calla. Thanks cobainfreak!!!

  • this is not sung by Ian Curtis, this is New order

  • There is a version by Joy division.

  • Tout simplement superbe !

    Bel hommage à Ian Curtis

  • saw them first time must have been 78-79 suppoting buzzcocks at guildford civic hall my mates stayed in the bar but id read some stuff about them and transmission had just been released my mates are kicking themselves now

  • thank you Ian for the music RIP.

  • JOY DIVISION 4Ebr!

  • What the fuck does '4Ebr' mean???

  • for ever

  • R.I.P. Ian. Thanks for posting this dude. Without Joy Division i don't think this sort of music would get half the support it does now, this is where it all started. Factory Records + Joy Division = Stuff of Legend. If u like joy division try 'Editors'. It sounds like they grew up listening to Joy Division and then New Order. See what ya think.

  • i luv the editors n im goin to see em in february lol great band glad u like the video xxx

  • 3:29 was the Moonlight Club in London, 1980 wasn't it?

Awesome to know that the band was playing nearly gig every night before Ian died. RIP buddy.

  • Thank you for doing justice to Joy Division with this tribute

  • Very sad! He was brilliant, and he will be remembered as a legend!!

  • Very good!

  • R.I.P.

  • Although I am a huge Ian Curtis fan, I don't think enough attention has been paid to the rest of this unbelievable band. All members brought equal relevance to an amazing sound, spirit and new dawn to real music in the 70s and 80s. I am a true believer in Joy Division.

  • what song is this? its really good...and it needs to be on my ipod (PLEASE RESPOND!!!)

  • It's ceremony by new order. x

  • cool thanks! by the way...this video is absolutely amazing! I LOVE IT!!! its totally in my faves now!

  • ceremony is actually a joy division song no that was done by new order after ian died

  • I like this version from Joy Division more than New Order tho...Ian's gloomy sounding voice gives it that little extra. So wonderful.

  • This is the New Order version with Bernard 'flat-as-a-pancake' Sumner singing, you idiot.......

  • What was the point of saying idiot?

People like you make the world a horrible place to live. Learn to be nice or die.

  • Precioso! Gracias!

  • beautiful

  • great tribute.whenwas the vid "love will tear us apart"released? it seems a memory from early high school.thanks.

  • Joy Division for ever!....Thank you for this great tribute.

  • What a great tribute

  • Long life....to Joy Division.........RIP Ian, forver in hearts

  • " Oh I'll break them down, no mercy shown, Heaven knows it's got to be this time "

  • Ming the Merciless also gave no quarter, but Flash Gordon got him in the end.......

  • eh ?

  • good video i love the live version on Still by Joy Division but I definitely agree with 'ucidot' Sumner sings it superbly well, my favourite song of all time 'too frail to wake this time' love that line

  • 3:58 through 4:12. The best. RIP Ian.

  • the songs called ceremony think its one of the last ones he penned it was the first one the band did as new order fantastic vocals by bernard sumner must have been a hard act to follow

  • amazin vid .. whats the song called ?

p.s to all you people who call ian curtis a nazi just dont come on and wotch his videos if thats the opinion you have ;)

  • ian curtis what a loss to manchester

  • What a loss to the world.

  • to world :(

  • who is a nazi here ?

  • you understand him wrong.

  • Well, then, you are therefore the descendant of a bunch of spineless, Nazi-appeasing collaborators, and you should still keep your slimy webbed frog hands off English music.

Why not stick to Plastic Bertrand instead?

  • Very easy to vomit such stupid things like that. Actually similar to sir Oswald Mosley's spirit. Easy to hide behind your computer. Coward.

  • English music for english people...so girletc, Joy Division inspired you such relevant ideas only like that... What a pity. Go back to school and learn.

  • After reading many posts here, I realize that Joy Division and New Order are still a mystery to many, even to the fans.

  • Well I totally agree with Canuck21. Don't forget that the early New order, especially in this song and in a lonely place, sounded very faithfully like Joy Division because they were Joy Division, a band in distress without a singer but with the same producer, the genius Hannett. After that they fought against him to produce their own sound.

  • WTF. Joy Division are the single best band ever. No contest. RIP Ian - you broke my heart.

  • fantastico!!!

  • i don't understand why you didn't put the original version of the song by joy division...

  • What's wrong with this version? It's a very good version that is faithful to the Joy Division sound. Many were confused as whether this was from Joy Division or not. If the fans can't tell the difference, than this is good enough. Plus, it's better to have the complete song.

  • it's a tribute to joy division, so it seems normal to put the original version, with ian curtis's voice.

  • Which one do you consider the original version? The one on "Still" or the one on "Heart And Soul"? Neither sounds good IMO. To me, New Order's FAC 33 is the original version even if it's really a Joy Division song. Having New Order doing a tribute to Joy Division is perfectly suitable. No other band is more deserving than New Order. Give Sumner, Hooky and Morris some credit.

  • look, i like new order's version, but in general i prefere originals versions, and i think that joy division's original version is pretty good (and i only know one version by joy division but i didnt there was two differents...)

  • Alors, quelle version parles-tu?

Bon voilà, sais-tu maintenant quelles versions tu a entendu?

  • Can't you Frogs go elsewhere?

This is an English band for English people.....

  • Shut up you cunt! Retards a not allowed to speak here.

  • You and your countrymen are just a bunch of spineless, Nazi-appeasing collaborators.....

  • All hail windows movie maker!!!

  • Genius

  • ceremony is the best new order song... because its the nearest song they done to the Ian Curtis`s joy division...

  • WONDERFUL

  • what is the song by the way ?

  • its ceremony by new order

  • thanks

  • is there any sader death than die by suicide at 23 ?

  • This is a really good job well done.

  • to "gay it up"... sounds like a compliment to me.

  • This is great, thank you for adding this. for whatever it's worth, Ian's music was wonderful and made alot of people happy. Keep what he sacrificed for going. He was a beautiful artist lost in the terrible commercialism of the world. Ian.. he was wonderful.

  • don't even try son. He wrote it, by all accounts of band members, him and Bernard wrote every song. If you are thinking his management had anything to do with it, you are just being cynical. We aren't talking warner bros or sony here. We are talking them saving up 3 months pay from their day jobs to put out their first album. There there snarky youtube guy, you'll evolve :)

  • What do you mean him and Bernard wrote every song? As far as I know, every member took part of the music composition, not just Ian and Bernard.

  • By wrote every song, I think he refers to the lyrics as opposed to the music.

  • totally amazing..... like those words actully mean anything...... i never reply to stuff like this but i... don't know what to say.... feel drawn after that. really like the picture of them in the snow heads down and the shot of them from behind going down the tube... really blown away here...

  • What song is this? i really like it need to know! thanks

  • What you are hearing on this video is "Ceremony" by New Order, the original 7' version and not the Substance version. The song itself was originally from Joy Division, but the band never made a studio recording and therefore never released it.

  • They did record a live version, but the sound engineer messed up and Ian's voice didn't end up in the mix for the first minute or so. But that recording sounds intense in my opinion. It was their last gig actually, and you can find it on the compilation album "Still".

  • I specifically wrote *studio* recording. I do have the Still version and personally, I prefer Barney's vocal for this song.

  • joy division is the greatest band. thank you for the video.

  • la mejor cancion de la historia¿¿?? seguramente....

  • just amazing

  • beautiful.

  • otra! otra!! otra!!!

  • grazie

  • Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I was living in London and was seeing a beautiful east German girl who worked in a record store in Mayfair. We were wretchedly poor and saved to travel as much as possible. Bittersweet times. Love.

  • True, this is not ian singing, although this is 100% ian/jd song and not a new order one. My fav jd track btw...

  • This is New Order version from Singles. I'm sure for 100%. Great tribute, who if no we, Joy Division fans, will remember Ian? Great man, great group, beautiful songs, many tears all over the world... Now in Polsih: Utwór pochodzi z płyty Singles New Order, jestem pewien na 100%. Świetny tribute, kto jak nie my, fani Joy Division, ma pamiętać o Ianie? To był świetny człowiek, świetna grupa i piękne utwory. Polało się wile łez na całym świecie...

  • Hmm...don't understand a word of polish, but always touched when people discover JD...such a great band:((
