To be honest, I think that was just a graphical glitch, I noticed on the 2nd replay of it. Play any GTA and go in the air wit ha helicopter or plane and the map will be very graphicly screwed up.

I know why... Some textures (Including sky) are not big... so R* put the same texture next to each other... covering some stuff (Example. One piece [] then next to each other [][][][]) so the gap appeared, therefore showing a line of the games void. It's common in the GTA 3 era (GTA 3, Vice City, and SA) But it's kinda uncommon in GTA 4 era. I might be wrong, But we all have our own opinion.
