I'm not against the bombing in Japan, I'm only against the second bomb. I'm in no doubt have huge respect for Feynman, Einstein, Oppenheimer, and everyone else who attended the Manhattan Project. They did what they must, and probably saved us from terrible things.
It now seems to be a false statement, that is nevertheless kept repeated, that the bombs did stop the war. Actually it appears now more and more clear that the bombs were rather irrelevant, it was instead the Soviet invasion of Manchuria that made the situation unbearable for Japan. Secondly I do not think for a second that US dropped the bomb out of the desire to save lives, that's ludicrous. They were quite comfortable with killing Japanese who after all had a different culture, race, religion
@emidoisback What a moronic comment! You are saying that the US killed because of racial and cultural differences? The Japanese killed more innocent civilians, because of cultural and racial differences, than the total number of people (civilians and enemy soldiers) the US killed in WW1 and WW2. Look it up if you don't believe me, but I can guess you won't because you don't care.
@emidoisback Countries on all sides used many bombs to raze cities, but the figured out to do it with only one bomb. I hear people like you complaining about the nuclear bomb, but they say nothing about the non-nuclear bombings. It's war People like you only focus on the one questionable thing the US did in the war. You ignore the almost 6 mil civilians slaughtered by the Japs because of race and culture, you don't know about it and you don't care. Only thing you care about is the US looking bad
Whether Harry Truman would be considered a “War Criminal” for dropping the atomic bombs on Japan or not (including good arguments). Google for:

@CHRIS1974100 hmmm..... new source of energy, or 120 000 + lives lost, and a new threat to the annhialation of the world. do you think the pro's outweigh the cons?
@jsbjr86 immediately after the war, the world came *this* close to a nuclear war. it doesn't matter that we haven't used the weapons since 1945, there wil still be wars in the future.
The nips were finished before we nuked them...they just didn't know it. However, the bombs did prevent us from having to invade them and saved a million casualties on our side (250,000 Killed 750,000 wounded) and at least ten million Japanese.
@1138thz but if the yanks never nuked or A bombed the nips! The nips would have lead the way forward in car manufacturing!!!!! Thats why they where bombed because the yanks wanted to dominated the world market!!!!!!!!
Exactly right! Yes we fukd up when we let Japan re-industrialize. We should have allowed only cottage industries and forced Japan back into the middle ages. Eliminated the Meiji Restoration and forced Japan back into the pre-imperial days of Shoguns and Warlords.
@SWEEE333EEET considering all of the other forms of energy, especially cold fusion, which can be explained, but needs more research...makes this use irrelavant at the moment. Because humans are to dumb, even when the claim hi intelligence, to have such technologies today.
@SWEEE333EEET The projections were 7 million causualties had the US invaded Japan, and would have lengthened the war by several years. Consider this, when the atom bomb was developed, it had to be used. The use of it and the annhialation that was witnessed and studied after the fact is probably the only reason it was never used in combat again. I pray it is never used again. The warheads we have now on ICBMS are roughly 50 times more powerful than the ones used on Japan.
@KarmaCollin After the weapon was developed, it was pretty much inevitable that it would be used in combat, and like you said, the devastation it caused is the main reason it hasn't been used since. I also wish it will never be used again, and that the thousands of nukes on the planet are just for the nations who own them to flex their muscle. But, seeing as it would have probably been used anyways, I think using it to end the war in Japan was possibly the best use for it, as it saved millions
@SWEEE333EEET "I think using it to end the war in Japan was possibly the best use for it, as it saved millions"
= The problem with such a statement, is that some would also say bombing the USA with nuclear weapons would be the best way to save millions of lives/.
@69salford69 yes, but, i don't think those people would be right. The bombings of japan stopped the Imperial army, because it forced their surrender. If The states had been bombed, and surrendered, the imperial army could have continued expanding and posed a serious threat to the world. If the states were bombed and DIDN'T surrender, there would have been retaliation and a nuclear war.
@SWEEE333EEET "If The states had been bombed, and surrendered, the imperial army could have continued expanding and posed a serious threat to the world."
= Yes, I do not dispute your comment, however SOME would have the opinion that since World War II, the USA has continued expanding, posed a massive threat to the rest of the World which eventually led to World War III - The war on Terror - which has cost millions of lives and looks like we are bringing this "War" to Pakistan and Iran
@69salford69 And again who are we to say that democracy is right; Politicians are too easily corrupted. I'd actually go for a fair monarch. The think is that they don't have to think short term. (4 year intervals)
They can actually tell the movie industry that "Suck it up, it is EASIER to pirate than to buy, even when you don't consider what you pay; fix THAT problem instead, I don't need your campaign money, because I'm the King/Queen and don't get elected." And they might sober up a bit.
@CViFi "And again who are we to say that democracy is right; Politicians are too easily corrupted. I'd actually go for a fair monarch. The think is that they don't have to think short term. (4 year intervals)"
= I'd say anyone who wants rights and priviliges needs to physically GET INVOLVED with politics.
Any decisions which directly affect YOU, should be made by YOU.
@SWEEE333EEET any advance in science since the sculpting of rock into axes in prehistory, has been used in war and in technology. it's our choice how we use it. but the quest for knowledge should not be censored as we would censor our own humanity.
now i wonder, if people who watch this, can grasp.. how thousands of those bombs still exist today. we can judge, talk.. and remember.. and do nothing. but alas, science, is a apprehensive thing. we advance to make life easier.. as well as the necessity of it all. but know this.. u cant go back.
I rarelly ever see real video of big time brains in one documentary; how many people know that Hans Bethe was the man who figured out the nuclear fusion and how stars in general work? Hans Bethe died unharalded just a few years back; i mean your looking at the first human to figure out the fundamental nature of stars. Most people today lived during the time of this individual.
@BlackGypoMagic ... uhmm no. look at okinawa.. by the time the russians were moving in the north and the US was moving from the South.. all men, aged less then 65, all women aged 45 or less.. were to take up sharpened bamboo spikes.. against the invaders. 120,000 people.. ? i say, .. alot, alot, alot more. the combined bombs of nagasaki and hiroshima, took the lives of 100k+ in 1-4 months. the tokyo fire bombing, killed 100,000 in one night, burning half the city to dust.
The final piece of our first Nuclear weapons, beryllium for the initiator, was supplied by Father Michael DeLisle Lyons, S.J. (Jesuits) of Detroit. Yep . . . a priest. For this amazing story Google "WWJ, A Jesuit and the Bomb." Fr. Lyons was my great-uncle.Fr. Macelwane of St. Louis University was also involved in the Manhattan Project. The copy of the Baghvad Gita Dr. Oppenheimer read from in the bunker was given to him by Fr. Lyons, who got it from Mahatma Gandhi. Ironic?
@3replybiz Also theres the fact that the US had greatly increased the size of its pacific fleet prior to pearl harbour. It can be seen as an attack of the US preperations for war.
@3replybiz I don't think too many people realize this. FDR cut off their oil supply oil line which led to the attack on Pearl Harbour. He got elected on the promise that 'If i am elected no American will go to war on foreign lands'. Now your back door wasn't that far away was it? That's how you get people to fight war(s) in foreign lands
@3replybiz The Manhattan Project was named after the 1898 earthquake caused by Nikola Tesla in 1898. It took place on Houston Street in Manhattan. I am not kidding. This is not a test. I repeat... THIS IS NOT A TEST. -Tesla made earthquakes in 1899
@3replybiz It was because Japan was invading China, and America was trying to slow the advance of their aggression, Nice anti-American sentiment, though, Mr. Liberal.
@RonaldReaganRocks1 I'm not anti American.Japan invaded China in 1937. The US embargo was a rather late in happening & actually caused the pacific war they had to fight with Japan.
@SeigeCJ yes UK did make some important contributions... notably early bomb designs by Otto Frisch and Rudolf Peierls as well as practical ideas for implosion... but you are ignorant if you believe they contributed equally.
US devoted billions of dollars of money to the project, hundreds of thousands of hours were spent on research, uranium enrichment and plutoniom development plants were built, planes were modified and pilots trained to deliver bombs... not to mention the entire project was carried out in the US. Yes the Brits and Canadians helped, and the project may never have been completed if it werent for them, but their contributions were by no means equal to the Americans
@ZekeAndroid48 billions may even be an understatement. Its true cost is unknown but we do know that around 10 billion dollars or 30,000,000 pounds of silver was used in the process of making just one bomb.
@AKhellbindeR America then Fuck both the UK and Canada who equally developed the A bomb...... Truman way to reward and isolate your allies you ignorant tard.
hitler was actively trying to make one first... he thought they didnt have enough time to develop it.... but he still had an active project going to make one -_-
american scientists were not the ones who originated the atomic bomb technology. The German scientists developed the atomic bomb and tested the effects over the Atlantic Ocean in January of 1945. The devastation convinced Hitler that the weapon was far to inhumane to ever use on people so it was shelved. When America fell upon Germany they uncovered the atomic facility and offered full immunity to the German scientists who built them the atomic bombs which were used at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The atomic bomb was created by Americans, Canadians, and Brits. Plus various scientists and engineers including the great Albert Einstein.
I should also mention Germany was trying to create a nuclear weapon. But they never completed it since the allied forces kept disturbing the operation(bombings) Germany created weapons that made an atomic bomb look like a firecracker. But they disappeared at the end of the war. Which is very scary. Just imagine something worse then a nuclear bomb.
@MokomaSusi Yeah, no one would have nuclear weapons if it weren't for Uncle Sam... That isn't exactly a good thing but... You know, you can't really deny it.
@Vergil017 it wasnt uncle sam, it was people from other country. usa its like a disease, they cant make their own resources so they steal them, buy them, thats how it is,usa cant be self suficient, you'll see
@MokomaSusi I never meant the Germans had a bigger atomic bomb(although many people believe they did) I meant they had other weapons that were even more advanced then what we have today.
Ever heard of the "bell" some say it was real some say it wasn't. Ive heard stories that it could reverse evolution and some that it was an alien spacecraft.
if anyone can please give me timeline of the manhattan project, you dont believe how much i would appreciate it. I really need one and have no time to create one, please, ill subscribe to your channel w.e
As the Producer of this video (interested UC posted it on You Tube) let me apologize for the Potsdam error. Yes it, was Germany, not Yugoslavia. My bad, endless apologies. The video went through factual review by two LANL archivists and neither caught that, either.
The dilemma Truman faced in whether to drop the bomb was what the American people would say when they found out the US had a weapon that would have brought the war to a speedy end...and he didn't use it.
It really happened. How can you even be that stupid to second guess it? The difference between the Fission (Atomic) bomb and the multitude of incindary bombs is that there was just one compared to many. Hence war ended because a multitude of Fission bombs would destroy the country.
Stupid comment at 48:30: "Potsdam Yugoslavia" . Potsdam is in Germany. A typical example of the lack of topographical knowledge of the average american?
i thought the manhattan project was like something about nazi scientist's that sent a tank back like 1 year and the tank apeard like 2 mins later and the looked inside and all the people that were inside were fused with the tank
If it wasnt for jews, who happened to be around 10 million of the world's 2 billion people, germany would have developed the bomb first and plunged the free world into darkness. Its funny how it took a bunch of jews working on the manhattan project to stop Hitler, the irony is overwhelming
I think the main reason the allies dropped the A-bomb on Japan was always about power, Think about it as soon as WW2 ended the cold war began between America and her allies and the Soviet union.America always knew that she would lock horns with the Soviets eventually.
Germany and Japan were already finished by 1944 maybe earlier than that who knows.I agree that Japan would have fought on and on, But it was just a matter of time before Japan would be subdued and crushed by the allies.
Germany knew it was over hence Hitler blowing his brains out. The bloody japanese do not have common sense and were not finished with anything. It was an imperialistic order to fight to the last japanese. It is a fact.
At the end of the day the bombs saved more lives than it cost and I am very greatful to the scientists from England, Germany, America, Canada, Hungary, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Denmark and New Zealand for speeding up the end of the war and saving lives.
@capetown70 Japan would have fought until every man, woman and child had been killed. You are totally correct. Luckily the U.S. developed the bomb before Germany, otherwise we may be a German territory.
Why do people always insist that Japan would never surrender. Japan DID surrender....If you suggest that Japan would have sacrificed all of their people for victory why did the atomic bombs change this? Furthermore Japan was very close to defeat. Watch the movie Letters from Iwo Jima to get an idea of what strength they had left. Get over it because it happened along time ago? There are still people alive who were there when it happened. Nothing can erase the horror of those bombs.
Yes, get over it, it happened nearly 70 years ago. Sadly the japanese can't get over it because they lost and it makes them very angry because their sense of racial superiority is to great. They are in fact a very racist people and this is how they look at other countries. In terms of race.
The japanese often tell the Chinese to get over it. Check wikipedia under japanese war atrocities and you tell me how the Chinese can get over what the japanese did to them. There were few civilians in hiro.
no. they cant get over it because there are still people over there suffering because of those two acts. so...until you walk a mile, dont judge. we dont know what it's like to have whole cities wiped out in seconds and suffering still lingering generations later.
Too bad mate. There are still people all over Asia who are still suffering because of what the japanese did to them. The sex slaves get no attention from the japanese yet the japanese get attention from the world about hiroshima. Why? Why do you people such as you make the js so special? Why do they deserve more attention than others ESPECIALLY when THEY were responsible for the killings of MILLIONS. Why? Most of these people were in the militia anyway. They were essentially soldiers.
the a bombs didnt kill the most people you see japan was comprised of basicallt wood back then the us dropped incindary bombs (fire) on japan and that killed more than the a bomb
thats exactly right! more people in japan died due to their incindary bombs! most died from severe burns....the A-bombs however killed a two hundred thousand people instantly.
You're absolutely right. The bombing of Tokyo involved incendary bombs for instance (together with explosives). Deployed on a massive scale they caused a firestorm destroying a major part of the city and killing tenthousands. The only difference with the A-bomb attacks was that the destruction by the latter came, so to say, in a flash and with long term radiation effects included.
In reality the Nazis lacked a sufficient program to develop a bomb. We didn't learn until after the War however so in essence it was a good idea to be working on the bomb in the mean time. As for dropping it on Japan that was nothing but an act of terrorism. If we could fly a single B-29 into the mainland of Japan on two different occasions then clearly they were already defeated. The goal was to defend the United States, not to annihilate Japan.
Mate, Japan was not annihilated. Keep the emotional rhetoric down. Besides, this was 7 decades ago, nothing is going to change why lament on and on about it? Terrorism? What a twit. Japan was far from defeated. The imperials were VERY willing to sacrifice ALL of their people which is why they were hoping for a land invasion so the Allied body count would dramatically go up in the hopes that the public back home would say enough thus giving japan a conditional surrender. Please debate logically.
But then again, the facts are that the bomb was built. The facts are as well that neither Germany nor Japan had the scientific, technogical and financial capability to built it... and we already knew that by the end of 1944... not after the war as stated in this video ("A war to be won" by Williamson Murray and Allan R. Millet two very prestigious military historians). Anyhow, I have to agree with you: we developed it first and we used it first... and that is a historic fact!!
and financial capabilities to develope such weapon. Moreover, in terms of traditional warfare, both Germany and Japan were already behind the allies in almost all aspects (land, air and sea) by the end of 1943 and it was already obvious that the axis was going to loose the war. The only area in which Germany alone had a technological edge by the end of 1944 was jet propulssion air fighters, but it was too late in the conflict to mean any thing.
I'm not against the bombing in Japan, I'm only against the second bomb. I'm in no doubt have huge respect for Feynman, Einstein, Oppenheimer, and everyone else who attended the Manhattan Project. They did what they must, and probably saved us from terrible things.

if it was going to happen it probably wouldve happened by now.

The nips were finished before we nuked them...they just didn't know it. However, the bombs did prevent us from having to invade them and saved a million casualties on our side (250,000 Killed 750,000 wounded) and at least ten million Japanese.

KarmaCollin 1 year ago
@KarmaCollin After the weapon was developed, it was pretty much inevitable that it would be used in combat, and like you said, the devastation it caused is the main reason it hasn't been used since. I also wish it will never be used again, and that the thousands of nukes on the planet are just for the nations who own them to flex their muscle. But, seeing as it would have probably been used anyways, I think using it to end the war in Japan was possibly the best use for it, as it saved millions
SWEEE333EEET 1 year ago
@SWEEE333EEET "I think using it to end the war in Japan was possibly the best use for it, as it saved millions"

(I'm not saying this is my opinion)
69salford69 1 year ago
@69salford69 yes, but, i don't think those people would be right. The bombings of japan stopped the Imperial army, because it forced their surrender. If The states had been bombed, and surrendered, the imperial army could have continued expanding and posed a serious threat to the world. If the states were bombed and DIDN'T surrender, there would have been retaliation and a nuclear war.

@SWEEE333EEET "If The states had been bombed, and surrendered, the imperial army could have continued expanding and posed a serious threat to the world."

@SeigeCJ yes UK did make some important contributions... notably early bomb designs by Otto Frisch and Rudolf Peierls as well as practical ideas for implosion... but you are ignorant if you believe they contributed equally.
ZekeAndroid48 1 year ago
US devoted billions of dollars of money to the project, hundreds of thousands of hours were spent on research, uranium enrichment and plutoniom development plants were built, planes were modified and pilots trained to deliver bombs... not to mention the entire project was carried out in the US. Yes the Brits and Canadians helped, and the project may never have been completed if it werent for them, but their contributions were by no means equal to the Americans
ZekeAndroid48 1 year ago
@ZekeAndroid48 billions may even be an understatement. Its true cost is unknown but we do know that around 10 billion dollars or 30,000,000 pounds of silver was used in the process of making just one bomb.

american scientists were not the ones who originated the atomic bomb technology.
ManyStrongPoints 1 year ago
The atomic bomb was created by Americans, Canadians, and Brits. Plus various scientists and engineers including the great Albert Einstein.
I should also mention Germany was trying to create a nuclear weapon. But they never completed it since the allied forces kept disturbing the operation(bombings) Germany created weapons that made an atomic bomb look like a firecracker. But they disappeared at the end of the war. Which is very scary. Just imagine something worse then a nuclear bomb.

You had to be there.
bassvid1 2 years ago 2
It really happened. How can you even be that stupid to second guess it? The difference between the Fission (Atomic) bomb and the multitude of incindary bombs is that there was just one compared to many. Hence war ended because a multitude of Fission bombs would destroy the country.

I think the main reason the allies dropped the A-bomb on Japan was always about power, Think about it as soon as WW2 ended the cold war began between America and her allies and the Soviet union.America always knew that she would lock horns with the Soviets eventually.
Germany and Japan were already finished by 1944 maybe earlier than that who knows.I agree that Japan would have fought on and on, But it was just a matter of time before Japan would be subdued and crushed by the allies.
mrwarblunt 2 years ago
Germany knew it was over hence Hitler blowing his brains out. The bloody japanese do not have common sense and were not finished with anything. It was an imperialistic order to fight to the last japanese. It is a fact.
At the end of the day the bombs saved more lives than it cost and I am very greatful to the scientists from England, Germany, America, Canada, Hungary, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Denmark and New Zealand for speeding up the end of the war and saving lives.
capetown70 2 years ago
@capetown70 Japan would have fought until every man, woman and child had been killed. You are totally correct. Luckily the U.S. developed the bomb before Germany, otherwise we may be a German territory.
faroutadventures 1 year ago
Why do people always insist that Japan would never surrender. Japan DID surrender....If you suggest that Japan would have sacrificed all of their people for victory why did the atomic bombs change this? Furthermore Japan was very close to defeat. Watch the movie Letters from Iwo Jima to get an idea of what strength they had left. Get over it because it happened along time ago? There are still people alive who were there when it happened. Nothing can erase the horror of those bombs.
Innapropriate782 2 years ago
Yes, get over it, it happened nearly 70 years ago. Sadly the japanese can't get over it because they lost and it makes them very angry because their sense of racial superiority is to great. They are in fact a very racist people and this is how they look at other countries. In terms of race.
The japanese often tell the Chinese to get over it. Check wikipedia under japanese war atrocities and you tell me how the Chinese can get over what the japanese did to them. There were few civilians in hiro.
capetown70 2 years ago
no. they cant get over it because there are still people over there suffering because of those two acts. so...until you walk a mile, dont judge. we dont know what it's like to have whole cities wiped out in seconds and suffering still lingering generations later.
jayrillo0214 2 years ago
Too bad mate. There are still people all over Asia who are still suffering because of what the japanese did to them. The sex slaves get no attention from the japanese yet the japanese get attention from the world about hiroshima. Why? Why do you people such as you make the js so special? Why do they deserve more attention than others ESPECIALLY when THEY were responsible for the killings of MILLIONS. Why? Most of these people were in the militia anyway. They were essentially soldiers.
capetown70 2 years ago
the a bombs didnt kill the most people you see japan was comprised of basicallt wood back then the us dropped incindary bombs (fire) on japan and that killed more than the a bomb
blt157 2 years ago
thats exactly right! more people in japan died due to their incindary bombs! most died from severe burns....the A-bombs however killed a two hundred thousand people instantly.
MrJazkiller 2 years ago
You're absolutely right. The bombing of Tokyo involved incendary bombs for instance (together with explosives). Deployed on a massive scale they caused a firestorm destroying a major part of the city and killing tenthousands. The only difference with the A-bomb attacks was that the destruction by the latter came, so to say, in a flash and with long term radiation effects included.
DrBPhD 2 years ago
Why can't We be friends?
AddictoEnvy 2 years ago
In reality the Nazis lacked a sufficient program to develop a bomb. We didn't learn until after the War however so in essence it was a good idea to be working on the bomb in the mean time. As for dropping it on Japan that was nothing but an act of terrorism. If we could fly a single B-29 into the mainland of Japan on two different occasions then clearly they were already defeated. The goal was to defend the United States, not to annihilate Japan.
Innapropriate782 2 years ago
Mate, Japan was not annihilated. Keep the emotional rhetoric down. Besides, this was 7 decades ago, nothing is going to change why lament on and on about it? Terrorism? What a twit. Japan was far from defeated. The imperials were VERY willing to sacrifice ALL of their people which is why they were hoping for a land invasion so the Allied body count would dramatically go up in the hopes that the public back home would say enough thus giving japan a conditional surrender. Please debate logically.
capetown70 2 years ago
But then again, the facts are that the bomb was built. The facts are as well that neither Germany nor Japan had the scientific, technogical and financial capability to built it... and we already knew that by the end of 1944... not after the war as stated in this video ("A war to be won" by Williamson Murray and Allan R. Millet two very prestigious military historians). Anyhow, I have to agree with you: we developed it first and we used it first... and that is a historic fact!!
mfrances0503 2 years ago
And it is as well a historic fact that some people are really proud of that, right mate??

and financial capabilities to develope such weapon. Moreover, in terms of traditional warfare, both Germany and Japan were already behind the allies in almost all aspects (land, air and sea) by the end of 1943 and it was already obvious that the axis was going to loose the war. The only area in which Germany alone had a technological edge by the end of 1944 was jet propulssion air fighters, but it was too late in the conflict to mean any thing.
mfrances0503 2 years ago
