  • ok for those who say carry a lighter or matches this one is for u . With a lighter if it gets wet and your in the woods lost or injured your out of luck. With matches u only get 1 use and if u lose them or if the weather is bad enough your out of luck. These were made for survival they work they last and they are easy to carry. If u are an extreme hunter or fishermen they can save your life. Nice vid about the product.

  • im the 132'th liker :D

  • and i thought the swedish firesteel would be the best. but this looks better. if they dont sell these on amazon i'll try going gear.com

  • @thamesuser only going gear has this specific kind

  • @callofdutybeast9280 Great mindset and very intelligent assertion, Call of Duty Beast.

  • or you could bring a zippo and with one spin of the wheel did what it took you 10 strikes to do

  • just ordered 2 from goinggearcom

  • i like the tini one

  • does any body know how meny strikes the badger last

  • where can i get 1????????

  • Question: Can firesteels be used when "wet"? Or is it that firesteels can start fires when the "tinder" is wet?

  • @champ3660 firesteels can be wet, not the tinder :)

  • how many striles can the stick last

  • Hey man your video got featured on the front page- congratulations!

  • wow i really want this hahaha

  • definitely have to get me one, thanks for the tip

  • lolol

    that's pretty cool :)

they even bounce off the floor

and it reminds me of the 4th of july :D

    thx for sharing

  • Great stuff Jeff. Because of your review I had order some :o)

  • now see, this is a good review. not hot sauce or other crap--this is helpful.

  • @101kipkayfan what????

  • And if you skrape it but not spark tit will be eeeeeeeeeepppppppppiiickk

  • Dude it's like a flint but better, the sparks stay on the top and last long is kind of bad

  • ferrocerium.

misch metal is only part of it.

  • I think ill get some next.

  • The "urban birdsnest" is the perfect comparative representation, it even includes some of the fundamental components of a birds construction methods. Nice =]

  • Excellent video, delinatly need some of these. Loos great. Thanks and have a great day.

  • Isn't Misch Metal another name for a ferro rod?

  • How much where all of them totle?

  • 5:34 that's what she said.

    Great stuff.

  • Is it better then the aurora fire steel?

  • i soo want how much ? and i just see it now ....... this man was trying to light the road on fire !! lol

  • A wild urban nest apears!

    Jeff, I choose you!

Jeff uses Mische metal fire steel!

    It's super effective!

  • @Fdebijl Super nerd lol

  • Misch Metal probably is a German name. It means "mixed metal" in english. The product also has an interesting Wikipedia entry.

I dig the performance, even with the wind the sparks last really long. Do you prefer this to a genuine Lightmyfire firestarter? Can it ignite things like Esbit without tinder?

  • if you slowly scrape tinny fragments off and onto a piece of paper and then spark it on the fragments it will get a piece of paper lit up in one or two tries depending on the amount scraped off.

  • "urban birdnest"- random hipster folk band name.

  • It seems pretty good but it already seems to be thinning. I guess I'm just too picky and want everything to last forever lol.

  • I prefer the blast match because you don't need anything to strike it.

  • dude i jerked off to this video until blood came out

  • "Again I can throw sparks from behind here..."

    DANCE SPARKS, DANCE!

  • the cap lifter/can opener on a leatherman is a great way to strijke matel matches

  • wow those are awesome. i am definitely going to get some of these.

  • pour some lighter fluid on it first.

  • the sparks look like FIREworks

  • the sparks look like fireworks

  • Jeff uses spark rod, its super effective!

  • BUT THE REAL QUESTION IS: Will it blend?

  • Your enjoying thowing those sparks just a little too much! I hope the Fire-Marshal doesn't see this video. LOL!! Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work and keep sharing the knowledge!!!

  • What size do you use in the video?

  • @moviewacha cougar 3/8 x 6

  • @cutlerylover do u know how long the badger, squirrel, mouse last

  • 5:19

Jeff used Spark! The move was Super Effective!

  • i didnt know snow could burn

  • Don't complain about the wind Jeff, we had a house get skinned of it's siding today and a large section of highway cut off because of fallen telephone poles here in delaware

  • @thepranqster1 that's your fault for living in Hellaware

  • looks like a good product

  • 3:20 thats what she said

  • Misch metal, it means mixed metal I think in German but Im not sure, but I do know that hollywood uses it for sparking parts in movies like car chases and stuff like that.

  • Hey jeff, did you ever got funny looks when doing videos? i imagine someone walking when you were in the middle of the street with a tripod trowing sparks into the ground talking, maybe think that guy is cucu in the head? lol

  • I bet you got these for free for review. I think these suck I have a few and I do best with my coughlins or strike force

  • @MrWhitetailFanatic I bet your wacko. Mischmetal aka Ferrocium rods are proven... to be one of the most effective fire starters.

  • @xxmtgxx Mischmetal and Ferro rods are 2 different things you dumbass little infected pubic hair!

  • @MrWhitetailFanatic No they aren't there the same thing with different names....

  • @xxmtgxx A mischmetal was magnessiume and ferrocium mixed thats why its throws the globes of melting metal. as a ferrocium has just that. Your a lil kids who doesnt own either nor have you ever slept over night in the wilderness so your option is void do to your lack of brains!

  • I am going to try and make a holder that the rod snaps into long ways. Then you can stroke the entire length if you wanted, and can reposition it in the pressure fitted holder as the rod wears.

  • just got one in today. set it in a small pine block i had. didnt think the sparks would fly that far and accidently burned a hole thru the sheets on my bed! i am dealing with the same wind you are but didnt have the balls to go outside when i tried it... lesson learned. another great vid keep em comin!

  • That web site is tricky. It puts stuff in your shopping cart without even selecting them. Just be sure to check your cart before you continue with payment.

  • I actually have one of those tiny ones under the handle wrap of my izula. They actually fit under there, unlike the ones that come with them, without being detected.

  • I'm impressed.

  • Wauw, that really creates long lasting sparks.

Anyone knows where to get them in Europe?

  • Urban Bird's Nest was the name of my Heavy (Misch) Metal Group I had in the 80's :)

  • I wonder what happens when you throw that thing in the fire.

  • 1.) Definitely gonna grab one of these

2.) A million pyros just ditched their lighters.

  • It makes no difference if you push forward or pull back, the sparks are flying the same exact way...

  • You claim the reason the sparks are so big is that the chunks of metal are bigger. How long will one of those last for? I mean I presume a while but I cant imagine it would be as long as other alternatives.

  • is it better than that aurora u reviewed few years back ?

  • I am going to get some of those!

  • @ArtisanTony if you and Alex find it fun to startb a fire with a regular ferro rod this ones even easier

  • @cutlerylover do you know how long the badger, squirrel, mouse last

  • hey cutlery lover..thanks for the great reviews and keep up the good work...I just have one question about your knife reviews...it seems that most (if not all) of your knife reviews are on folders, why do you not review more fixed blade knives?

  • Thanks a lot man, never heard of these things before I saw them here.

Just had enough to order two medium size ones of ebay and of course I had to right away XD

Just hope they aint fakes like some of those chinese mag bars.

Anyhow, keep it coming man, things like this is proper value for money.

Btw, why have I never seen you with one of the scrap yard knives? They seem to me to be close to the top of "value for money" with knives, although I only have second hand experience to base that on.

  • Man, forget the FS, I'm getting one of those!

  • what also works super good is wrap a paper towel around the striker and then strike, the sparks will get caught in it

  • that looks extremely fun

  • I still prefer the fire steels form fire steel dot com then goinggear's, but that is just personal preference

  • @cutlerylover its funny that im seeing this video cuz last night i actually ordered the otter rod, i just find it ironic your doing a review the day after i bought one hehe, we r on the same page hehe

  • now when you have those small rods, are they more susceptible to bending? or would they snap?

  • you know what would be great jeff is to show how to do a paracord wrap on one of these cuz i have one but idk how to do wrap

  • I love the misch metal fire steel rods. They work great!

  • if you use a better striker then it works better and also what 1 is that?

  • 2:14 ''What is that guy doing over here? He's starting a fire on the road =0''

Much respect to You Jeff =P

  • @cutlerylover will it work when wet?

  • @iandegia yes I show this in the next videop which is still uploading its a review on wetire tinder, all you do when wet is wipoe it off or strike a few tiems and then it works

  • defenetly awsome!

  • Wow, hard to believe how cheap they are.

  • Do you really want to argue with Tex' blast match? lol

  • @GMGvanS hell yeah, lol I already sent him one why do you think his mustache is missing...hahaha jk

  • @cutlerylover the tiny ones are great but could the break?

  • what a firework

  • sooo cool :D

  • No snow?!?!

  • @TheChucker09 its only gone where it was plowed or shoveled...

  • Comment removed
