Man o Man I love this song, I was in Dallas visiting a Girlfriend and she had tickets to Iron Butterfly concert and We went and check it out. They where fantastic with a little blue micro dot and with out it too.....but better with it.......
Wow! Man that drummer was really feeling it wasn't he! lol. He was tripping hard! O_O The keyboard player right around the 48 sec. mark..... he looked just like John "BONZO" Bonham didn't he! Striking resembelance! Amazing Vid.! THANKS.
A hidden gem.... Iron Butterfly's 1970 release Metamorphosis capped with this song Butterfly Bleu, is one of those albums that didn't gain as much notice as it deserved... but remains one of those hidden gems that if you're lucky enough to discover you realize that you've found something special. A good honest rockin' record from beginning to end...
STELLAR PERFORMANCE! Where are these kind of concerts today?! The drummer kicks soooo much ass. Everybody in Iron Butterfly shreds, in music AND in fashion.
@49kasey i disagree..............in the 60s they took their cue from the doors and had 'in a gadda da vida as a platform for experimentation......here they take their cue from the jazz/rock leanings of blues image, but with the added dynamic quality of the dual guitars..........'butterfly bleu', was yet another vehicle for experimentation, maybe more earthy than the early stuff ...........the lp this lineup made blows away 'vida' in purely technical terms (production comes to m,ind first)
@darrenfinizio2 They had absolutely no similarity with the Doors and furthermore, the Blues Image is exactly what I had in mind as the awful, generic post-psychedelic transitionary sound of 1969-1970. But that's just my opinion, and I'm very psychedelic-era oriented.

Yeah Bushy Baby!!!!..heheh ...I Just love the tune more each time i hear it ..which is pretty good considering i first listened to it in the summer of 76..great post:O)
Early Ampeg SVT probably with the 6146 output tubes.also early VT22 near rhino and pineras Super reverb and a few other fender amps.Don't see any Sunn stuf.
@crosscoupled - there's one (or more) Orange amps. there's on German TV show where they were the 'house amps'. as seen for example on the Alice Cooper 'I'm 18' video. and all the 1960s stuff from German TV (Small Faces, Spencer Davis etc). I'm guessing IB wasn't using them but probably part of the show's deal, free amps if they make sure they appear on stage!
when I was so tiny my mom always called me a butterfly....... my dad had this album which this song was actually 13 mins long and the last part the spider ate the butterfly, but this was my fav son back in the day.
nice analogy of that part of the song they cut out....spider and the ....I just thought it was funky as heel...their ability to just take sound to such great places...I'm lookin' for the album cut, now....have a good 'en...guayuh con dios
No me suena ninguno a Eric Brann.
@kentcrawf no arguement there friend. looks can be decieving. i mean everyone thought jimi hendrix was a heavy stoner putting LSD into his headband but when truth be told, he actually didnt do as much drugs as anyone suspected. it was the soul of the music and getting into the mood, becoming one with the music. thats what i love about it and why i hope to become a good musician.
0:22 Ron Bushy´s moves are just out of this world. its the same in all Iron Butterfly videos, it looks like the man was made of rubber! but this is a fantastic song from a legendary band!
awe-fucking-some! Thanks for such a wonderful - and live !! - post .. . Makes this old 55-y-old want to dust off the mull bowl and roll a spliff or threeeeeee !!
its so funny to watch the drummer trippin out,you think"he's no rocket scientist",however he designed the mx missle and then vavished from the face of the earth(as seen on unsolved mysteries) true story!

buddy rich may have been "the man that built slingerland" But Ron Bushy def. built Zickos, and spawned a whole different make of drum in the percussion industry (IMHO). I mean who didnt want to play zickos after watching Ron bushy play them?! One of the best drum/bass teams in the world ---- ron bushy & lee dorman! --- BTW, check out Ramatam if you like the butterfly, fairly rare to get, but worth it.
Iron Butterfly spawned a thousand bands. But know one could touch em.The arrangements and musicianship was unlike any other band.'Ina gadda' came out in 68' and everyone said Wha?
Ball was fantastic but nothin' could hold a candle to Metamorphisis.... mind you it came out in 1970 whereas Ball was released in 1969 .....so maybe you have a point!!
The most ripped-off band in history ! Iron Butterfly introduced so much magic into the 60's that most people will never know. They were the Catalyst of what we now call Hard Rock/Metal? Long before Zep n Ozz Magical Muthafka's
i always thought the byrds eight miles high was earlier beginner of hard rock. could be wrong tho. dr. demento would know,he played earlier obscure weird music. wonder if hes still alive.... luv butterfly tho, everyone banged the innagaddadavida drum solo all year like when wipeout came out. love that 60s sound!
The greatest psychedelic blues song I think I've ever heard. These guys should have never been one hit wonders with other fine tunes in their catalogue such as this one.

buddy rich may have been "the man that built slingerland" But Ron Bushy def. built Zickos, and spawned a whole different make of drum in the percussion industry (IMHO).

Ball is maybe the most underrated album of the 60's.
