they do not count as hardcore because the name of the genre givin by a community, in this case musicians or people who understand genre specifications, is simply not called hardcore? DUH .. no realy personally i think that the hardcore genre is best defined from all other metal genres because of it's low growl,grunt, pig squeal..(hope that's written right :s). .. read rest of my explaination down below

for example parkway drive and i declare war are hardcore because of their very low sounding vocals.. whereas for example aiden or alesane or crap like that are not. the type of vocals they use is very high and is sometimes or often (depending on the band) exchanged for normal singing vocals throughout different parts of the song. also a big difference.. is the type of guitar riffs and the brutallity of the drum

for example here comes the kraken have a riff that is almost constantly going through changes.. pinch harmonics (i believe they are called) and sweeping + playing very low tones who create a very dark type of music are things i believe are own to hardcore.. the drum is almost constantly using dubble base, creating along with the bass guitar and the guitar a very hard, distorted sound it's asif the music doesn't sound clear (not in all bands..). alternate picking (almost) constantly is also hardc
