Snowmobiles win because they have a larger footprint on the ground, and no rotating mass forward of the rider. Think about it, only the center knobbies of the tire are on the pavement. Whereas the whole track of the sled is on the ground. And I cant tell from here but some drag sleds put on a rubber track for better traction. Regardless. Its footprint and traction the make the difference here.

or did you ever think that maybe the snowmobile is bigger. with a bigger engine? gee wouldnt that do a lot. the snowmobile has more friction on the ground than the dirtbike because a wheel isnt dragging on the ground like the skis on the front of the snow mobile, and the tread would be slower than a tire. its just pure power...the engine is faster
