  • Two people have absolutely no taste, but this is AMAZING music. He is a living legend!

  • Only time I saw him was with the Rolling Stones back in 1981 or 1982. His blowing made the whole band better.

  • @Toje1990 completely agreed :-) I had the pleasure of working with Ernie in 1993 and it was awesome. He keeps getting better with each year!

  • So 80's...........

  • WOW!! Awesome, thank you for posting this! Dammmm.....Ernie seems like he can play anything as fast and technically challenging as he wants and yet he never EVER sounds like he misses a note or makes a mistake. Amazing, inspiring solos and always with flawless tone, technique and intonation. I saw him just last year in Sonora and he sounded as good or better than he ever has. He's truly one of the greats.

  • One of the top horn players alive today. Props to Ernie!

  • lol the bass player at 1:16 looks so goofy

  • He's in Minneapolis reading a chart and playing with Ernie Watts. What were you doing in 1986 ? Just wondering.

  • @kenyboy1

    u mad?

  • anyone know what kind of sax ernie plays, he has a awsome feel, tone and vibrato.

  • He's playing Tenor sax in this video.

  • Its a Yamaha tenor sax. And I agree, Ernie Watts is amazing.

  • no its a Keilwerth, not a yamaha.

  • at the time a yamaha Pro Version,

    Yamaha makes great Rock Saxes.

  • Yamaha, but he would sound exactly the same on a Bundy. His sound has nothing to do with any brand of instrument. It's all Ernie, no one sounds like Ernie. Everyone thinks the instrument makes the player. What a joke to think like we all think when the truth is he plays incessantly and he does his thing. We all have different voices so why would sax be any different?

  • No Doubt is back!!! its a about dam time!!

Check out a Hot band from Vancouver BC. Search for "Brandon Paris Band + Say Goodbye + Much Music"

  • this iz great! i remember seeing this on tv around 15/16 years ago! brilliant stuff! great post!

  • Ernie is a musician like a good vine. He becomes better with each year.

I saw him last year and he was brilliant.

  • Listen to Bay City from Charlie Hadens Quartet West and you know what mr. Watts is all about: awesome.

He started as a young altoplayer in Buddy Rich's band.

  • Exellent

  • is that Steve Hunt on keys?

  • who knew a 12 bar blues could so fresh and lively!

  • He plays the full range of the sax with so much ease! He's phenomonimal

  • Amazing!! Nobody plays those blazing wild arpeggios like Ernie, or uses the whole range of the sax like him.

  • Using the whole sax range : Michael Brecker !

  • good point...

  • Aww man, Ernie Watts is a phenomenal player. A pure sound with such great work.

  • This is Great! What a killer Tenor sound. Ernie is one my favorites. Thank you for sharing this clip.

  • Oh I liked this. Thanks for sharing that vid. :)

  • Bah, apestas.

  • Wonderful, where did you get this video? I've been looking for this footage for quite a long time, I've almost forgotten this. Thats pat coil on keys and I guess thats bob leatherborow on drums. Thanks

  • Its from the DVD "The Ernie Watts Quartet Live"

  • Wow, you mean this footage and this whole performance is available on DVD? Thanks really for the information. I guessed the last time I saw this video was way back in the early '90s. But is this available online? Thanks a lot, God bless!
