I don't think they gave enough facts in this clip for people to form a solid opinion about the matter. You can google this story to find out more information.
Hate speech like that is awful (using the n word to describ Obama), but what I fail to understand is the school's reaction to it.
Do they think racism is swine flu? That the students are so simple minded, that reading that graffiti will make them prejudiced?
Seeing something like that would drive me to COMBAT racism, to talk about how awful it is, and write my own messages against it. Hiding it does more to help the message - leaving it out in the open allows us all to discredit it.
@shaeb123 You know you can not paint with brown gravy silly, the vegans would find that offensive.and rightly so. The fact that you would suggest such a thing makes me doubt your sincerity
Personally, I doubt the perpetrator was a student there. Most of the students are aware of how it works. They know that certain things are off limits. Plus NCSU does a good job of screening their applicants. However, with a school of that magnitude (large enrollment) it is very possible. Racism still exists, period.
@reevaluate2008 Excuse me, but what is so funny about it? I don't know your race, but how would you feel if you were a white student who attended NCSU and you were walking through the tunnel and saw a picture of a white person being hung and a caption saying "Kill the crackers!!!" Would you just say " oh well another day in the expression tunnel" and carry about your merry way? Just curious.
@shaeb123 It is funny. Why would they call it "free expression" if it's not? Just get rid of the title and call it something else; maybe "pc graffiti".
@reevaluate2008 I understand your point, but that's like saying this is a free country so you should be allowed to go around and chop peoples heads off! The fact is the students understand how it works. And it doesn't work like that. Certain things are off limits.
@whoo689 If these PC idiots were SOO offended at the messages in the tunnel, why not just write your OWN counteractive messages?? Instead of "blacking it out" or trying to censor it. What, do they think the racists who actually WROTE the stuff in the tunnel are somehow just gonna magically disappear now? come on
@whoo689 There are ways to express yourself that don't involve name calling. The N-word was written over a picture of the president along with some homophobic names as well. Writing a counteractive message is counterproductive. It only expands the hate and sends a message that ignorance is acceptable.
orwellian nonsense!

@mrhulot101 what is it about black paint that you find offensive? Would white paint be better? Let me guess, you're allergic to brown gravy as well?

What a joke. "Free expression - unless somebody gets offended by it."

@shaeb123 but there is an amendment that protects free speech. Murder is not protected.

Not allow freedom of expression if it's not going to be respectful? Yet it's called the Free Expression Tunnel... *face palm*

@Thorbie I find it very interesting that people are more appalled by the block of the tunnel than by what was written in it. Wow!
