@Stu3100 In WW1 they did not have their own army to join and there was poverty the army was an obvious choice as it had been, In WW2 money again was a problem in Ireland the Irish Army paid little compared to the British. Many of those in WW1 came back were sent to Ireland and just murdered people e.g. original Bloody Sunday - which still has no justice.
