1) Seinfeld itself didn't have a traditional writers' room - people wrote their individual scripts, then Larry and Jerry would rewrite as they saw fit.

2) Classic Simpsons avoided ''getting homogenised and losing the whole edge of it'' - for example, writers like John Swartzwelder had distinctive styles evident in their episodes - even though, as you say, the scripts were still being partly group-written. Nowadays the scripts feel ALL group-written.
