Kirk maybe you could look at the "behind the scenes" video to gain a little perspective for this particular show. It backs my original post regarding this video.
This isn't baseball; we're not looking for that perfect catch. We're listening for beauty (dissonance, feeling...) We're listening for that grooooove! Check out Tony Williams, Thelonious (sp?) Monk, Charlie Parker, etc! You're on the right track! Just LET yourself explore more! Keep on Bro! Your horizons are much further than you think! -Kirk
Stretch54 (and Bernie), short and sweet, you've got the right idea, but you need to loosen up more, don't be afraid to make mistakes (dissonance is GOOD)! Lay back more and LEAD more (if you can understand that crazy statement.) Don't plan so much, let it all happen, mistakes and all, and LEAD that goove bro! I know, it's scary, but LEAD that band bro! Keep up with the scales, but practice more improve and practice more mistakes!:) -Kirk
(kirk)Not sure if you understood my post based on this rather odd response. This is not a John Coltrane video. Bernie does unfortunately have to spend his time on baseball since that is where money comes from. Being a musician myself, I fully understand the need to loosen up and take chances, but he's a baseball player. This show was designed to promote his album not see how many chances the players could take.
Sounds like a jam session. Not real tight, not very interesting. But I always love to watch the Vinn! Bernie sounds like a nice chap. Thanks for the post.
I don't know. It's a quite a bit better than a "jam session". It was a single show though recorded to promote his album with little practice or run through. IMO there are also better songs from this gig than this one. "la salsa en mi" is one that stands out.
i saw him last night at the lafayette theater in suffern, absolutley amazing.
