Last summer I went to see my sisters in Washington DC and they took me up to see New York for the first time. They said I could see 1 Broadway show and we when to this one cause Kristen Chenoweths my idol, and I adored it completely.
I think she just might be in a bad vocal condition. She has a bad habit of jamming the root of her tongue down onto her larynx way too much than is healthy for her operatic notes, and that may have resulted in some vocal deterioration. Or she just has been singing too much or maybe she's supposed to sing like this. Maria Callas in her later years was an example of how incredible artistry can be accomplished even with a damaged instrument, and Kristin's clearly got artistry nailed. Love it. <3
