The maddening thing is, he's trying to sound pro-referendum, and yet the order he gave to his party (to abstain) has ensured that there will be no referendum of any kind. Furthermore, there was no reason why he couldn't have voted against the Lisbon Treaty and campaigned separately, afterwards, in support of the position he describes in this interview.

we are living a communist state headed by a dictator - parties that don't conform to their own promises/manifesto's (whats the point of making manifestos anymore?), a government that doesn't even have a vote on ID cards and roles them out in stealth manner - what has our beloved country come to?
