Many have sung Rafi saab's songs in the past and many will sing in the future but there is no one who can sing Rafi saab as good as Sonu. Sonu is an undisputable multi talented music wonder of bollywood. No doubt there can never be another Mohammad Rafi but Sonu is as close as this world is ever gonna get.
Sonu's a pro. All his songs are very pleasant to listen to. I must say the first time I heard him sing Rafi's song, I was taken back. I thought I was listening to Rafi.My friend pointed out, it wasn't Rafi. After that I always could tell it was Sonu.But my point here is that every singer who sings a previously assigned and sung song, should put his/her style to it. I would love to see some originalty; as if to say" Look I could have sung it differently" Just look at the the Remixes. JIMHO
@Vishal: Yes dude, Rafi could have easily sung "ishq kamina,ye dil deewana(pardes) and recently sung soona soona by sonu". He was one of the most versatile singers. Sonu is a wonderful singer, one among those whom you see in centuries. But inadvertently your statement undermines Rafi saab, even though you didn't intended to. Anyway, let's leave it here only and enjoy their eternal songs instead :)
Whatever Sonu is today is because of Rafi Saheb as he has got the publicity because of the great legendary singer, you cannot measure them with the same scale, if you do, you perhaps dont know what music is.

Rafi sahib's version is better and here are the reasons:
1. There is reverberation in sonu's version. Echo.. to make the song sound better.
2. The voice is shrill and blunt as compared to Rafi's thick and soft voice.
3. Control is good.
Rafi sahib sung songs in punjabi, hindi, urdu and many other languages... as a brother for millions of people speaking those languages. Its not about religion, its about what touches your heart. Rafi sahib is simple and the best.

I am a big fan of Sonu's as well but his pronunciation as far behind that of Rafi Saab's. Lister to the 'R' at the end of a word as an example and you will see what I mean. He is the best of current times but Rafi Saab is a Legend and I am sure Sonu will agree on this.

Fact remains - "asli" is asli and "nakli" is nakli. Rafi sahib's voice is soothing to the ears and the copy is irritating to them.
