Thanks for posting this video. I have already made up my mind NOT to go through with the amnio test. My baby doesn't deserve to feel pain at this early point of his life:)
@4babyhael The baby doesn't feel pain at all... I had the amnio done when I was pregnant with my daughter and the doctor did an ultrasound at the same time he did the amnio so he made sure he wouldn't poke her. Everything turned out fine. If I thought it would be painful for baby, I'd never get it done.
As a nurse student this is my present rotation so thank you for posting it. As for the comments being made I will not touch point by point nor get involved in pro-life or not. I will remind those reading the posts that this test is also done when a woman is at risk for deliverying the baby early to check for lung maturation. The lungs are the last thing that the baby will develop so checking for LS ratio is important. This test is not only done to check for neural defects.
I'm not gonna go back and forth with you people on who says what and who does what, in general, if you read my response clearly, it says whoever 'use the name of God'. And yes, that includes her!
I'm having my amnio next week after a bad NT Scan. I'd like to know if there is something wrong with our baby so that I can get in touch with the proper support groups and prepare for any special needs. How is that anti life? Not everyone who has an amnio is going to get an abortion, even with bad news.
I'm so nervous, though. Thanks for posting an actual video!
When I got this procedure I cried and panted like a wild animal. It was't that bad though. The idea of a needle going into your stomach or the possibility of harming the baby, and the fear of a positive test result (along with the natural emotional instability of being pregnant) that really upset me. It's uncomfortable but it only takes a few seconds. Well worth it in my opinion. Who wants to spend their pregnancy worrying there's something wrong with the baby?
@einsatzdeath I have to have this procedure done in a couple of weeks to determine whether my baby has Down's Syndrome. i'm terrified about having it done. How did your amnio turn out??
@wicketyboo Totally fine. I wish we didn't even do it because I think the doctors were just trying to get us worried. The baby is almost four months old now, and he is awesome in every way.
If there was something wrong with your baby then wouldnt that be your 'Gods' will?? Strange how you spew your sick, homophobic, venomous bile on other vids and then try to come across as a caring person on here! Dont you condone the murder of children as God's will?
Those that use the name of God to condemn others are just pure ignorent and evil and to promote their own view. You are no different than those preachers who preach to con church followers out of their money so that you could spend it on yourself. Everything is God this and God that. So funny you people.
If you read my posts you'll see that I was not the one preaching about God. Einsatzdeath had previously posted on other videos about homosexuals being against 'God'. She stated that AIDS etc was 'Gods' way of eradicating homosexuals because they were 'sinners'. Then she was whining on here that she was having an amnio in case her baby had DS. I merely stated that surely that was meant to be by her notion of 'God'.
Get your facts right, then you wont look so stupid next time.
@einsatzdeath I agree with you. Im having this done tomorrow and Im scared to death but I need to know, I need to be able to prepare on how to look after my baby post birth. My partner and I both know that we are comfortable having a special needs child so if we do get a positive we have a few months to get prepared for it n if its a negative than its a huge weight off our hearts.
Anyone who comments on this procedure not being "pro-life", etc is just a fucking small-minded idiot who has obviously NEVER been in the sort of situation where you have to decide to get amnio done or the prospect of having a child with a lot of serious problems. It's not easy to care for a child with severe disability or see them unable to have a "normal" life. I am at risk of having a baby with Trisomy 13 which is very serious, I don't know do I get this amnio done or not.
@GeorgeNEmma I am going to do it! I will abort it if it has an abnormality for sure, then start again. No way I am going to put a child through that - or my family - or myself! Oh my, or even society.
im am sooo friggin scared of having this done to me...im a needle phobic and the thought of this happening to me just makes me break out in a cold sweat..wen i went to my first doc visit they had to take blood..i started crying hysterically, my heart rate jumped, and i broke out in a cold sweat. bottom line i do NOT think i can handel this procedure.
hey thanks for the video, I will have amnio this monday to check if my baby's lung is mature already as i will have to be induce but I refuse to be induce unless my baby's lung is mature so my doctor is doing the amnio. this video helps me stop freaking out co'z the whole process is actually simple.
@afparks How did your procedure go and how his your baby now? I will have to have an amnio for the exact same reason you did. I am a bit nervous about it too.
@TeacherBC06- My amnio went fine and it was really quick. No pain whatsoever . My baby is 10 months old now. We got the result the same day and I was induce the same day since baby's lungs was mature already. Don't get nervous, you will feel no pain during the procedure. Good luck
It's done so that parents and doctors have the most possible information about the child, not so parents can decide whether or not to abort the pregnancy.
Firstly the risk of miscarriage from this procedure is extremely low, secondly the test is done so the parents ca decide to keep or abort the baby, and/or to be emotionally ready just in case, if they find out your baby has something wrong like down syndrome, believe it or not there is nothing they can do, doctors have no way of " fixing" a genetic problem as the reproductive system is far to complex.
I will tell you why, the fact that you are getting the test does not necessarily mean that you are going to abort the baby if the result is positive. You can actually just want to know so that you can get prepared emotionaly, financially, search for things that you may need by having a special baby....that is it. Got it?
Actually, it is not 'fair to say' that. Amniocentesis is a risky procedure, ill give you that, however it is done to make sure that there are no chromosomal defects with your baby. Therfore, if there are any defects,(if there is any time) the doctors can work to try to fix the problems before birth.
Fair to say this is not a procedure considered by those who are pro-life, right? Due to the risks to the baby? Then why did Sarah Palin, a self proclaimed pro-life advocate have one?

Aren't you supposed to take only 15 ml (1 tablespoon)?
Leave some for the fetus please.

it wasn't as bad as it looks... it's the thought of it causing a miscarriage that made me faint 10 minutes later!
