Kiri te Kanawa is really a great singer ! She is always excellent in "classic operas" . I would say : Purcell,Haendel,Mozart ! She has the exact "style" for this beautiful music ! She is quite specialized ! And she is so beautiful looking ! For me far better than Miss Fleming or Miss Dessay

No, no... this is an European production from 93/4... she was already an international opera star.

oh yeah, she definitely would have been at that point. i just couldn't find any information about it, and was curious because they mentioned her being a film star earlier in her career in a documentary i've seen about her. thanks!

Hi. You're right. It is from "giulio cesare" but this production is called The Sorceress, it has arias from several Handel operas...

totally agree on your praise of kiri.

but i have to admit i like renee's recent recording - perhaps not the usual sorceress interpretation - but i think it has a simple beauty and a nice flow; which is unusual for me since i'm not a huge fan of renee anyway!

thanks again for your great work in posting these videos thecelticinme. Brilliant!  tervito, I have to disagree a bit on the singing between Te Kanawa and Fleming. Its like comparing apples to oranges. Most works are done on CD now and EVERYTHING is heard including breathing by the singers. I give Fleming an "A" for effort but, NO ONE sings like KIRI!!

I agree with you RRydnew. Fleming's got a magnificent voice but there's something about Kiri's voice that makes her unique.

That certain something Kiri has really is pronounced when matched with a Heldentenor. Its a trip!

Fleming's voice doesn't have that special undefinable quality to it that Kiri's does, but she is a close 2nd.

A little bland in interpretation, but beautiful and sensitive singing. She's about 1000 times better than Fleming's attempt at this aria on a recent album.
