I saw Leo live in a small club around 1990. It blew my mind. He told some really funny stories, one about a guy in prison that I wish for the life of me I could remember. He also played some of his famous riffs in reverse for us which was a real treat that boggled my brain.
when you see him in concert you get so into his stories and anecdotes that you forget for a second how great he is at music (the reason you went to see him) and then he starts to play and you crap your pants at how great he is!!
@ste8636 I,m Going to see him in Nov in Phoenix I already got tickits 3rd row center stage.I,m only going to be 12 feet away form him.I,m sorry to brag. But it is leo.And I hope he plays Julie,s House too.BTW at age 65 how was his guitar playing?
@844jimthompson I was pretty close too. About the same as you're gonna be. He's a bit slower now, But just as amazing as all the old videos i've seen. That was the first time I'd ever heard this song too. great show. he played for just over an hour.
@ste8636 Thanks for the reply,I saw him alot in his prime he was great. The best in my opinion .I love it when he talks to the audieance. He,s got a great sence of humor.BTW-you can watch Julie,s House and many other,s on utube...Thanks Jim.
@844jimthompson I just discovered him a year ago. I love him. He's brilliant. My favorite album of his is Chewing Pine, with Six and Twelve String a super close second. I've seen the Dylan thing too. :) He def talks alot. It was funny when I went to see him, he couldn't get his guitar situated right on his shoulder and it took him a minute to get adjusted. He goes, "God damn it! How does Lady Gaga do it??" Funny as Hell!
Leo, Your music always makes me smile. I remember seeing you play at the Unitarian Church in Portsmouth, NH back in the 90's. I was in the balcony with my fiance and you had the ceiling vibrating with your 12 string...:)
i have been a Kottke fan since mid seventies, people who know anything about acoustic guitar will ALWAYS take notice when they hear leo for the first time or the !hundreth
What a great song. Haven't heard it in a while and forgot what a treasure it is. Nothing like this exists in today's young artists. Why is that? Is Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga all there is to offer today?

Leaving for my fourth consecutive trip to Austin, Texas at the end of the month to watch Leo at the Paramount theater. This song is one of my favorites!!
a tremendous talent - saw him many moons ago at colby college in waterville maine - this song has always touched me ... does he set aside his self-importance and get close to the girl - always wondered ...
fatchuk812 welcome to Leo Land, there is a LOT of good stuff on YouTube!
Unfortunately Leo has been having trouble with his right hand, which he attributes to his aggressive fingerpicking style. You might enjoy some work he did recently with Mike Gordon of PHISH. Yes, Phish. Good stuff, recorded on some lush island somewhere.
digndrums2003 - right on, sir or madam. Watch for the new load of shit from Britney Spears and her Milli Bolognie computer producers.......
The duet version of this song with Emmy Lou Harris is sublime--- haunting, melodic, evocative. I've been listening to this guy since 1971, he's fantastic. Saw him live in Redwood City, CA last September, on a bill with Judy Collins. He should have been the only act, he was mesmerizing.
You are without equal, an American treasure, a virtuoso whose music has influenced thousands of guitarists worldwide by defining the goodness of the 12 string guitar.
As a contemporary, I am greatful to have been playing so many of your songs for so long, and
am not apologetic that many, like Julie's House and Pamela Brown bring tears to my eyes when I play them.
God bless you Leo.
While guitar makers continue to want to drive 12 string sales,
I could listen to this song continuously. I almost do on my ipod. The combo of his acrobatic eyebrows and rustic yet smooth voice is quite mesmerizing. Nice work Leo.

Hey, thanks a bunch for posting this! Great song. I've seen him live 5 or 6 times but he never has played Julie's House, so I'm glad to find this. I'm not complaining (much) but this live version is missing the super smooth lead that can be found on the studio recording. Well, you can't have everything.
Whenever I have seen Leo in interviews discussing his singing voice, he always seems to denigrate it. I disagree though, I think his voice really quite beautiful.
I have been searching a long time for this song. I had mistakenly attributed it to Lyle Lovett because I saw a 1987 (?)episode of Austin City limits where he was on stage before Leo, and my memory had failed me in the intervening 20 years. This is a fantastic song and one of the first to get me into fingerpicking. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You've already made my year.

This tune has been running in the background since I first heard it.
Something about the tuning, timing, the round baritone voice.
Nobody else can get this sound out of a guitar.
