Moss had the drop on Anton easily. He could have laid down underneath the bed with his gun ready, and waited until Anton broke the door down then taken out his legs. Would have been so easy.
If Chigur was a nam vet, that was stupid 2 leave out,it explains alot. This was a great deathmatch,no score, silence, its like we´re there.Still.big chicken-minuspoints to the Coens for being their cynical selves n sticking to Moss sucky off-screen demise. It was an adaptation n there, they had a chance to improve the source material.Letting us see him shoot n get shot would make this another movie. PS. Brolins killed 25 mins. before the end n is seen as the lead? Either all 3 are supporting or Lead!
Crank the volume at 1:30, you hear Anton take out the desk clerk. The Coen Bros. know how to make a movie! They got that whole "chaos ensues" thing that makes there movies great: Burn After Reading, Fargo etc. Good stuff. To sum it up - "This is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass!"
would everybody stop bitchin about what he 'should have done'. and just enjoy the scene. "why didnt he just noob tube him lol!" ya call of duty turds.
Lewelyn- Not the smartest dude, but a surviver... and thats enough.
Chigurh- A man of honor in the craft of death. Cold, Efficent, and worst of all patient. but a man none the less. The greatest story of what humans are capable of.
Llewelyn gave nearly as good as he got....I like to think Chigurh was at least a little put out that he was putting up a good fight and holding him off...and when he was sitting outside the pharmacy figuring out how to get supplies, part of his expression is a little wary that he was there at all. Later when he is patching himself up...he is not a happy camper.
Again, an awful lot of shooting right in the street and nobody come out to investigate. Not even one barking dog. Even with a silencer, firearms make a terrible racket.
fun fact: in the book, moss, chigurh, AND carson wells are all vietnam vets. thats why they're so skilled, an average mexican ain't that good with a gun...
Anton got the money, he knew Moss kept it hidden in the air conditioning before. I would have thought people would pick up on it when the Sheriff found the coin and that thing open, after he entered the room where Anton had been on just seconds before.
The sound quality on this video is great. I never noticed that when Moss dials the front desk, you can actually hear the other side telephone ringing unattended (it's very faint, but it's there).
lol have you been in a lot of shootouts in hotels with guys that have oxygen tanks to blow off the locks on the doors? sounds like you know exactly what your talking about...
I hate the scene with the truck guy, unnecessary. If Anton was such a professional, he could have popped Llewellyn when he got in the truck or when he was against the wall, THEN popped the truck driver so he could get his satchel, but instead he messes around and eventually gets a hole in his leg.
I think chigurh does not fear getting killed or holes in his leg but he still acts pretty smart. He tried to shoot llewellyn after he shot the driver because he was trying to slow down llewellen and not let him move easily ducking down below the window.
Any quality hitman shouldn't fear getting killed, they are in the business of killing. Anton is smart, but if he was REALLY after the money he wouldn't mess around like he did. I mean, Llewellyn managed to put a shell in his leg, if he could do that then he has the potential to put one in Anton's head.
All this shows is that Anton is the type who likes to play around with his meat before killing it.
He was obviously after more than money because he killed people that had nothing to do with the money. But Llewellyn didnt have a chance to shoot him directly in the head because if he did he would have and chigurh jumped put of the waay pretty quick.
Well, it's like what Carson said, he was a man of principle. Someone messes with him or if a situation calls for someone to die, he will make it his priority to kill them.
I was just saying that Llewellyn HAS the potential to kill Anton, not just in that particular scene. As I said, Anton messes around, and he paid for that when Llewellyn shot him.
Sure Anton has great skill at pursuing and killing, but he is not very professional and could wind up dead for his (at times) overconfidence.
@tomshepley Thanks, thats good to know. I feel so much better knowing that now and it just made the whole movie for me. In fact it made my day......No, my whole life!!
This is hands-down my favorite movie. I don't want to taint it, but I would love to see Chigurh take on other antagonists, like grimsrud from Fargo or the Joker.

Honestly, I would have searched through it thoroughly just for the count. Would have found it then. Besides, you would want to change the bag that it was in originally. Maybe split it up into two bags or more. He was a bit of an amateur.
Before I would have gone home, I would have gone to store, bought a new bag, through out the old, and then have hid the bag somewhere far away from my residence. There's always time for those who take the time to think.
He was an amateur when it came to the big picture, or thinking like a criminal. I would have transferred bags right away. He was good at the defense/combat part somewhat, I'll give him that.
...i wonder why he didn't find the tracker right away. if it were me...the first thing i would have done would be to look through it , count the money, destroy the old case...it and put it in another bag. i also wonder why he stuck around so long?
heck...i think i would have been out of there so fast...and disappear to another country for awhile...also maybe i did not catch it...but who ended up with the money in the end?
Well being that's it's set in 1980 trackers were pretty knew so Llewelyn didn't even think about it. Also Anton was years ahead of any criminal so his tactics were new and surprising. As for the money i dont know if Anton got it or the Mexicans cause in the end Anton wasn't carrying the satchel.
Actually, the Mexicans got the money and drove off after killing Moss. Chigurh was looking for it before Bell got there. As far as the end is concerned, that was his own money he gave the kid.
You have a good point , but I think that that was part of the point- that Josh Brolins character just was not cut out for this kinda thing and was way over his head. he should never had gone back with the water for the dying mexican.
he had already taken ther money out to count it, but you would not think to look inside every pack for a hidden tracker

Note to self: If I ever find a big black bag of money I will check to see if there is a transponder in it.
