y'know, I never understood this. Aeris dies by a sword in the gut, that's all well and good and apparently Phoenix Down cannot revive her. Yet in battles, characters get shot, slashed with all sorts of weapons, engulfed by fire/ice/other magics, EATEN, blown up, shot with lasers, vaporized by energy blasts, STOMPED ON, put through all sorts of hell HIT BY A FRIGGING SUPERNOVA... and yet they can be revived by a feather... what the heck?!?!

@LOTO202 Cloud having no expression wasn't cuz of "bad graphics". in the movie Advent Children, Cloud is overwhelmed with guilt for many reasons, some have to do with Aeris, such as "letting" her die. In this scene Cloud was possessed by Sephiroth still or just coming out of it, or could have just been in shock. and Aeris wasn't his girlfriend, but his best friend Zack's who also died...

I find this game very fun, and, now that I've played through most of the first disc, (I just basically just started the game) I can conclude my first comment has little to no impact on what I think now. 3. @LOTO202 ah ok, I understand. From where it sounds like u are, things can be very confusing. Just stick with it and it will clear itself up, just about everything has answers in this game. Cloud and Aeris seemed to be bf and gf, yes, but just keep in mind that everything in FFVII is very complex. Try to ignore any spoilers I might have gave, I only think it was one though, the Zack thing. @LOTO202 (continued) after you beat this game, I highly suggest playing Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. its the prequel to FFVII. I wouldn't read about it now because of the many spoilers it contains. But beat the original first, thats the way to do it. @valypaly3 One more question: Just after you get to the world map, if you go to the Chocobo Farm, a guy tells you that you need a chocobo to cross this swamp. I've already done this, but 1. I 've crossed the swamp without a chocobo, and two, once you reach the other side, you see this snake thing on a tree, dead. But, the one in the swamp looks exactly like it. Please explain?
@LOTO202 Well they think that it could possibly be the snake from the swamp's mate, but nobody knows for sure, there was most likely more then one is those woods. Sephiroth had to pass through those woods not long before u, and he was probably attacked by the snake, and so he killed it. Its certain that he killed it, and they its a pretty fresh kill. he also may have wanted it to be a symbol for anyone else after him, as a possible warning. and I didn't use chocobo to cross the swamp either
@LOTO202 (continued) theres a trick, u just run in the swamp once the snake is far away.once the snake gets close pause it quickly and save it, then reboot the system. then just keep running until the snake gets to close. after about 3 times rebooting u will be at the other side. The game wants u to use a chocobo, but at this stage of the game its too time consuming, and the snake is hard to beat at the end of the game let along now. anyway, hope i helped, if u have anymore questions ask away :)

What my question was, was, if there's a snake in the swamp, was the snake that was strung up in the tree, dead, the same one in the swamp? If it's not, then does that mean that there are more in the swamp? Does Sephiroth get there slightly before you get across the swamp and look at the dead snake and kill it? But, if that's true, then why is there a snake in the swamp if you try to leave? Please explain
@LOTO202 Oh ok, no the snake that Sephiroth killed was a completely different snake. There is only one snake in snake, it seems to be just one snake that dominates that swamp and attacks anything that comes in it (like you). The snake that was on the tree was most likely a snake in that forest. Sephiroth got there just a little bit before you. This is proven because the snake kill is still fresh, its not like it was killed a while ago and rotting. The snake most likely attacked Sephiroth once
@Basch152 Jesus, I was just talking about the easiest way to help somebody. That's all. I know all this, but if its your first time playing the game WITHOUT any faqs or guides then I know from several cases that everything u said rarely happens unless your more experienced. And the first time I played I just wanted to get around the damn snake and never see it again in the quickest way possible to continue with the storyline. Thats all. and it was Sephiroth that did that, not Jenova.
@valypaly3 Uh, no, did you not pay attention to the storyline at all? The "sephiroth" you're following all game is actually jenova, sephiroth is really in the northern crater. That means pretty much everything that "sephiroth" does throughout disc 1 and 2 is jenova, yes, that means jenova killed aeris as well.

This killed Aerith, obviously. So why didn't Sephiroth die when Zack stabbed him? And why didn't Cloud die when Sephiroth stabbed him? I've never played FFVII, so I don't know if I'm missing something. O.o
@2RandomGirls I'm not 100% sure that I'm right, but my best answer to you would be that Sephiroth and Cloud have been infused with the chemical called Mako, which, when given in doses, actually makes people far stronger than their non-chemically-enhanced counterparts. ill tell you wats REALLY funny, you get stabbed and shot in the battles and get dealt 30 damage...just like in FFX they fight soldiers with guns and get hit, and then at the end they get backed with guns thus making em move back...
You guys think about this way too much. The battle system isn't meant to be literal.. when you supposedly 'die', it's more like getting knocked out. The Phoenix Down's recover you from a KO state, they don't bring you back from the dead. Aerith was clearly stabbed through the back, killing her on impact.
I thought she didnt die immediatley, I thought she died in Clouds arms (I havent played the game though, so I cant be sure, but going from the scenes I thought she wasnt killed immediatley when Sephiroth stabbed her)
@linkassassin360 true enough.. if a phoenix down cant save a person from a simple stab wound i doubt when ultima or Bahamut zero hits a revive all will be up to the challenge.
@Hopeisxdevotion I'd agree if they weren't called "phoenix down" which implies actual resurrection, and if you assume that petrification is like cryo in that it slows down your metabolism to almost zero then yes, a remedy or soft would clear that right up, sorry for replying to this super old comment

@bone009 Technically, they both revive life. I think both of their descriptions say "Revives life". If not both, then I know that the phoenix down has that description. Nothing is ever mentioned about reviving someone from a KO, but considering that you can revive someone simply by staying at an inn, I think that Hopeisxdevotion is right about the battle system. It isn't really supposed to be taken seriously. That's why Supernova can't instantly kill you, even though it can destroy planets.
@Hopeisxdevotion I agree with you, and anyway video games, and specially fantasy games aren't supposed to be 100 percent realistic, only the story needs to be.
But admit it, you don't die from machine gun bullets, deadly magics, big monster bites, Super Nova attacks, and you die from being stabbed ? That's pretty funny isn't it ? :p
Same thing in Crisis Core i guess, after fighting the worst form of evil on earth, you die against lamy soldiers -_-
I've always wondered just how he manages to descend upon her from exactly 12 o'clock high with a six-foot long, curved-bladed sword while she's got her back straight and impale her smoothly. Doing it the way he did should actually just sort of cleave Aerith in half.
They coulda used a phoenix down, it doesn't make sense if they are just KO'ed in battle. If a party member gets hit in the battles and loses ALL their life points, they die. Getting cut up by a sword doesn't knock you out.
This also brings up the question why he was able to one-hit kill Aeris but no one else.
Actually they couldn't use a phoenix down because it's only used in battles it won't matter if your not in battle once you see Aerith get stabbed she's dead completely. And the only reason Sephiroth was able to kill her is because she was just staring at Cloud thinking that she's safe. But Sephiroth is around a level 60 and you get the ancient around either a level 10 or 20. So Sephiroth is way more stronger than every character until you reach the end of disc 3.
@Grahamx227 This is a valid argument.. according to the games logic this could have been done.. but I mean, if it was that simple of a fix I'm sure they would have done it much sooner. I don't think gameplay items always work themselves into storylines.
@Hopeisxdevotion When a character "dies" in battle, they are really just knocked out or incapacitated. It's like FF Tactics, you can be defeated, but it takes 3 turns for the character to actually die, in that time you can use a Phoenix Down. In games like this one though, a character just becomes knocked out, they don't actually die.

@valypaly3 the snake only has 4000 health. its easy as hell to defeat by the end of the game, basically any character can kill it in 1 hit by then.

@2RandomGirls I'm not 100% sure that I'm right, but my best answer to you would be that Sephiroth and Cloud have been infused with the chemical called Mako, which, when given in doses, actually makes people far stronger than their non-chemically-enhanced counterparts. ill tell you wats REALLY funny, you get stabbed and shot in the battles and get dealt 30 damage...just like in FFX they fight soldiers with guns and get hit, and then at the end they get backed with guns thus making em move back...

You guys think about this way too much. The battle system isn't meant to be literal.. when you supposedly 'die', it's more like getting knocked out. The Phoenix Down's recover you from a KO state, they don't bring you back from the dead. Aerith was clearly stabbed through the back, killing her on impact.

I thought she didnt die immediatley, I thought she died in Clouds arms (I havent played the game though, so I cant be sure, but going from the scenes I thought she wasnt killed immediatley when Sephiroth stabbed her)

After she was stabbed she fell into Cloud's arms, but she never speaks a word of dialogue. It's possible, but if she did it wasn't very long after.

@bone009 Technically, they both revive life. I think both of their descriptions say "Revives life". If not both, then I know that the phoenix down has that description. Nothing is ever mentioned about reviving someone from a KO, but considering that you can revive someone simply by staying at an inn, I think that Hopeisxdevotion is right about the battle system. It isn't really supposed to be taken seriously. That's why Supernova can't instantly kill you, even though it can destroy planets.

They coulda used a phoenix down, it doesn't make sense if they are just KO'ed in battle. If a party member gets hit in the battles and loses ALL their life points, they die. Getting cut up by a sword doesn't knock you out.
This also brings up the question why he was able to one-hit kill Aeris but no one else.

It's something about Sephiroth's sword. If you recall when Tifa got cut badly by his sword she couldn't be healed and had to be taken to a doctor.

Actually they couldn't use a phoenix down because it's only used in battles it won't matter if your not in battle once you see Aerith get stabbed she's dead completely. And the only reason Sephiroth was able to kill her is because she was just staring at Cloud thinking that she's safe. But Sephiroth is around a level 60 and you get the ancient around either a level 10 or 20. So Sephiroth is way more stronger than every character until you reach the end of disc 3.

@Hopeisxdevotion When a character "dies" in battle, they are really just knocked out or incapacitated. It's like FF Tactics, you can be defeated, but it takes 3 turns for the character to actually die, in that time you can use a Phoenix Down. In games like this one though, a character just becomes knocked out, they don't actually die.
