@Tom15452 - I don't understand your sarcasm and/or crass reply. I guess that if you had a kid who had this problem, you'd be turning to someone like me to care for them. So, you can kiss my a** you knob.
that is the scariest sounding cough! both my girls have had it.. my oldest was admited into the hospital the day before my 2nd was born. [i think the stress started labor]
This morning my fiance got up for work and heard our son coughing, and he said it sounded bad. I am going to phone the doctors and make an appt get him in to get checked out, luckily we now have a famiyl doc. My son's coughing and breathing problems started int he fall and have been on-going. I hope it doesn't become a life long problem int he future. But thank you for posting this video so that I know what a croup cough sounds like, it helps to maybe diagnose him better :)
A few months back, for 3 months from approx oct-dec, my youngest son had a bad cough. Because at the time we didn't have a doctor I had brought him to the walk-in clinic. I didn't think of asking about croup before that, but the doctor said he had a touch of bronchitis, his cough was harsh, rough sounding n had it for mths. We didn't get any anti-biotics, was told ot keep it moist in the air. it took quite a long time for him to get over it, now he is sick again and his cough sounds the same
I'm an Infectious Disease Pediatric Nurse. There is no treatment for croup (laryngotracheobronchitis), from an antibiotic perspective. It is viral. You can give orapred (a steroid) for inflammation of the larynx, and if the child is experiencing respiratory distress, they can be given racemic epi via nebulizer and O2. The key to croup is to keep the kids calm (anxiety brings on the coughing spells), and once they start coughing, be supportive.
Hi Mandy, Our doctor also prescribed antibiotics and I tried to wait it out and see if the antibiotics would help and it did not. Her condition worsened. I brought her to emerg, and the doctors were upset that she'd been prescribed antibiotics. It does nothing to help croup. She needed an oral steroid (epinephrine, pediapred) delivered by a nebulizer... after receiving those treatments her condition immediately improved. If your child is struggling to breathe, go to emerg. Hope this helps.
Thank you for posting my 3 year old has croup your little one looks so much like my shyanne and in this video reminds me of my shyanne, My daughter woke moments ago coughing so hard it sounded like she was going to throw up, Are doctors gave us an antibiotic because she also has an ear infection....and we are on day 2..

This is a video of our daughter when she contracted croup. The cough is at 1:48.
This was after being admitted to the ER and being administered an oral steroid so her cough was improving and less frequent by this point.
