How far we have come! To be watching the earliest recordings on LP's via the internet!!!! The charm reaches across the century! Thanks for uploading this.
60 years ago, our French teacher at military school in Dover used to play this record to us. He always switched it off near the end as it was too' jazzy'! Merci beaucoup!
Perfect, in that peculiar human way of making imperfections beautiful. Like sepia toned pictures; like faded hand-written letters; like black&white Audrey Hepburn movies, the cracks and the frayed edges echo like an old memory you're desperate to cling to. So you loop it over and over again, yearning to never let go, letting it play 'til you fall asleep...
Essa musica é linda! Nos faz viajar...além da imensidão do mar. Eu gostei desde a primeira vez que ouvi no filme o escafandro e a borboleta. Essa versão é para mim a mais expressiva, a melhor!!!!

La mer Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs A des reflets d'argent La mer Des reflets changeants Sous la pluie La mer Au ciel d'ѐtѐ confond Ses blancs moutons Avec les anges si purs La mer bergere d'azur Infinie
Voyez Prѐs des etangs Ces grands roseaux mouilles Voyez Ces oiseaux blancs Et ces maisons rouilles La mer Les a berce Le long des golfes clairs Et d'une chanson d'amour La mer A berce mon coeur pour la vie
This makes me cry. It's perfect in it's own distinct way with those pops, hisses... everything that gives it life and the feeling of purpose. Thanks for sharing this, just great!!!

well... historically he is an important singer but there has been much better french speakers after him. That song sounds really too old for me. I prefer Leo Ferre, Brassens or, of course the great Jacques brel (not French but Belgian)
ok, gossytony, but don't compare poets and popular singer, its a big mistake, and badaway ,u forgot tow great poet from québec, gilles vigneault , and félix lecler....
I meant to say "singer", not "speaker"... I guess I was tired. Sorry, but I don't see more poetry in this song than in Ferre's ones (read "des armes" for example, with a marvellous interpretation from the band "Noir Desir"). I am belgian, native french speaker, so I understand very well those songs... Anyway, when it comes to poetry, I would pick some older writers, not song writers, like Mallarmé, Baudelaire or Hugo... Or wy not recent singers like Francis Cabrel or JJ Goldman. Yep, why not ;-)
Great recording, I have this version on tape without crackles, but have to say- think the record has the origin of the song. great posting wanna sell the record Dave
There's just something to record players that's been completely lost with technology of today... Character, I think. I much prefer listening to the crackles and such of this then a "digitally remastered" recording, xD.
When I was in college in the 1950s someone had this recording and played it often. I haven't heard it since. Trenet recorded the song many times, but I still like this early version. Nothing else like it.
Wonderful! The first time I heard this song in French was on an internet radio station, a version done by Liane and the Boheme Bar Trio. Does anyone know anything about that particular recording? Would love to have some info on it as I'd like to find the lp or 78 it was first recorded on.
Great sound quality!!! I am surprised it's acoustic!!
We got an old record player, but the needle is worn, and I have no spares. It tends to tear up the grooves, so I don't play it except worn out records. Great video!!
