I have this on tape and always wanted to see more by the people who made this. Also, the second part looks scrambled or pixelated and I never understood what was the deal with that. Does anyone have more info on this piece?
Acidburn Flashback Tabu!A collection of short animations similar this. You could rent this from Blockbuster when I was 14. My buddy and I dosed some acid and then watched AcidBurn. Psychologically scarring is the best way to describe my experience. The next day, after spending the night flipping out and watching this over and over, we took the VHS tape outside and burned it. We felt that nobody should be subjected to that sort of torture.15 years later, it still gives me the willies..
This was made in the animation department at RISD back in the 1980's. It was distributed by Picture Start (RIP) of Chicago in 16mm and 35mm theatrical short. It was very popular and I have seen the theatrical film version many times back when I taught animation. Jeff Carpenter went on to create MID OCEAN MOTION PICTURES (RIP) in Los Angeles as this film thrust him into success in animation. I do not know where he is now. This is a poetic "narrative" that won many festival awards.
To be perfectly honest I have no idea what I just saw, but for some reason it excites me like nothing I've ever seen before. It was like it was normal and rational, but perverse and absurd all in the same instant.
PLEASE post the rest of this!
