well if u look at what obi says to r2 when he finds luke unconcious ... hello there my little freind!!! and also what owens word are to 3po - i suppose ur programmed for etiquete and protocol,,, remeber that he also hid the truth about anakin from luke too!!!! which is reiterated with him saying " that's what i'm afraid of" to beru!! so he did infact recognise 3po !!! but was wary with what he said so as not to give any cause for concern with luke!!!
@cnestudy1 He did, but he has been reincarnated through the force. its a reference to the first movies, where at the end, you see anakin and obi wan in force form. Qui gon taught obi wan how to do it :)
@vze21gwa Within the realm of the story, it was supposedly to protect Leia. He witnessed her birth, and had he fallen into the wrong hands, Vader might have found out who the princess of Alderaan really was. Being in the space boonies and all, Luke would be harder to track down, but the knowledge that his son might still be out there somewhere probably would have compelled Vader to try.
It works for me, but the real reason is still for continuity purposes.
@JedediahForeverMD Liam Neeson was supposed to do another appearance in either The Clone Wars or Revenge of the Sith...but he broke his arm, and couldn't film. It was a sad day for the Star Wars franchise.
when i saw this when i was younger i heard qui gon i was like YAY HES BACK i was waiting for ages to see him the credits come i wait through it all then the film ends and im SHIT!!!!!!
Qui Gon Jinn was actually suppose to be in a scene in ROTS as a Force Ghost but Liam Neeson apparently had a leg injury and couldn't act for the part. So thats why they cut him out of the film I guess.
To commune with the ghost of Q-Gone, Obi Wan filled that pipe you glimpsed in episode IV with Tatooine's finest hydro weed. "Gundar Earwax" or "Yoda Skunk Blueberry" perhaps chowing down on Corellian Hash-Spacecake -totally from another galaxy. Obi Wan screaming at the Sand-people was just him coughing up some mucus. . .
So, existing after death was a magic trick Qui-Gon learned? I always thought it was because the Jedi were good souls and got to live on because of their faith in the force. Vader seemed confused when Obi-wan disapeared on the 1st Death Star. But, no. apparently becoming a ghost is something you could learn, like creating life from scratch.
@MrOliverGWR11 no, no it dosent, now stop trying to get thumbs up by copying other comments. last time i checked a lightsabers hilt is not red, nor is it green.
So much stuff forcefully wrapped up here, it's ridiculous. Oh yeah, by the way, Obi Wan, the ghost of your former master told me how we can be immortal, cool, isn't it? Just thought I would mention that now. Yeah, he came to me, not to you. He's pretty disappointed in you, actually, with how you handled Anakin and all. Have fun watching Luke in that desert shithole!
The mind wipe answers the question as to why C3PO doesn't remember the Tatooine, but why doesn't Uncle Owen remember C3PO? He was on his farm for almost 10 years. And how come Obi Won doesn't remember R2D2, or make a statement that he had never owned a Droid? He was around R2D2 quite a lot, and he did own R4.
@joshjhutton Uncle Owen could have forgotten about C3PO because its been a long time plus C3PO wasnt gold when Owen saw him so he could have thought it was a different droid. and with R2 and Obi Wan , same thing Obi wan might have forgotten about R2 because he was alone on tattonine also because it seems it was around 17 years after Episode III
Not to mention that PHANTOM and EMPIRE showed that Protocol Droids are common and all basically look like 3PO. Owen didn't seem close to his droids either, considering them to be just tools.. To him remembering his name could have been the same as remembering the serial number of his old toaster.
@CalgaryFlames95 Obi-Wan forgot R2... yea.. and 3PO? lucas just invented too much history that's inaccurate with the old movies... Obi-Wan couldn't just have forgotten the two most important droids in the life of his former apprentice...
@auroradrago not exactly, if you watch, he leaves the two droids with senator organa and organa has their memory wiped. Obi Wan wouldnt want to keep such droids because anakin made 3PO and if him and R2 were both just randomly on tatooine it may have gotten Luke and himself killed.
@joshjhutton well as for C3PO and uncle Owen owning him, remember he had rusty old Grey armor in ''attack of the clones'' before he took off with anikan, so obviously he wouldn't recognize him....as for Ben kenobi not recognizing R2 D2 i have no idea, it always puzzled me to

@joshjhutton I think that there are several millons of units of each droid...in the SW universe they are made by corporations just like any other product, lets say .... if I borrow your Nintendo 3DS today, would you recognize it 15 years later?
@joshjhutton I don't know if you've had your question answered yet or not, but the Imperials were in orbit over Tatooine and Obi-Wan did not know if the empire had done something with R2 or not, memory wipe etc, so he couldn't trust R2. He wanted their presence to be unknown. He did in fact recognise R2-D2. As to the matter with C3PO, there are many models that looks the same. The fact that he was silver-coloured back then didnt make the issue a lot easier.
because when c3po was on the farm, he didnt have gold plating and there are a lot of protocal droids in the galaxy. Obi wan remembers r2-d2, he was just acting as if he was new to hum, and he never owned r4, r4 belonged to the jedi and the the republic in general
@joshjhutton 3-p0 was silver when he lived on the lars farm.
there are literally millions of those droids in the universe. change it to a much more distinct colour + show it to him over 20 years later, it like you being able to identify a toaster you once had (not the same model, the exact toaster out of every other model that looks exactly the same (except yours has been gold-plated so it looks totally different)
@taffysaur But in this scenario, the toaster talks, has the same speech patterns and voice (remember that we already know that each droid has a distinct voice), and the same mannerisms.
@taffysaur Because he has the same NAME. I doubt they've had very many protocol droids on the farm during the time Anakin's been away and Luke has been growing up. Ten years knowing the name "C-3PO" was the name of your stepmother's only possession--a possession that, even amongst Protocol droids, was EXCEEDINGLY long-winded--would be hard to forget.
@DocAwesome25 it's a seemingly arbitrary string of characters, like the name of every other droid in the galaxy.
as for his voice, we only hear one other protocol droid talk + it sounds like threepio, only female. we can assume that protocol droids are programmed to sound like proper english servants.
everything i said still stands. he's nothing more than a machine to owen lars, a machine he had working for him 20 years ago, with a totally different appearance.
@joshjhutton It's simple. It's called the "George Lucas is worse at retconning than he is at actually writing dialogue" principle. It's as true as Newton's Laws of Gravity.
this explains the jedi ghosts in the originals, there's also a section in the original script for ep III where yoda was talking to quigon's voice at the asteroid base
@nholt that hallway was alot smaller than the one they used in the new hope, but they do say that is is the same ship that was used in the Ep 3 book :)
@kdaalder You know, I don't remember where or when I heard of this but I guess Yoda becomes Qui Gon's apprentice. He teaches Yoda how to "come back" after death(in ghost form). He also taught Obi Wan this while he lived as a Hermit. Hence both Yoda and Obi Wan become immortal after death. " If you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine"
This was a terrible scene for the fact that shoehorned a character into this movie for no reason. This scene does nothing for the saga. It might've been worth it if we actually saw Qui-Gon.
Hey, we've just uploaded a Star Wars song that follows the events of episode 4 (the real episode 1) to a nice melody and we would appreciate feedback from fellow Jedi :p
Liam neeson rocks. He taught obi won, batman, leader of the A team and god damn.... He's fucking aslan in Narnia. He's reach the level of master like no other.
@sports586 Qui Gonn only lost to vader because his lightsaber dueling style or art he studied took alot of room to maneuver and maul found a opening and got him as obi wan was studying this but after the duel with maul he switched to the most defensive art of the lightsaber so just use this as help if some1 calls qui gonn a bad jedi
@starwarsfandude no you got it wrong mate. Yoda has training for obi wan. Like he is giving him homework. The purpose of the training is for obi wan to be able to communicate with Qui Gonn :)
Wait wait wait... Yoda says Qui-Gon discovered the path to immortality (obviously not literally, but through the Force)... but in E6 he tells Luke, as he dies, "Strong I am with the Force, but not that strong." What gives?
@jlaf27 he means corporeal immortality, aka: remaining alive bodily. His immortality through the force is proven at the end of jedi, when you see obi-wan, yoda, and anakin (though he may not have had training, he probably had the raw talent to follow his masters' footsteps)
Qui-Gon should of made an Apperence in this one, as a ghost, Yoda should of Tought Obi-Wan earlier than then, like during the Clone war, maybe, then we could see Qui-Gone communicating with Obi-wan in III and for him to appear as ghost in it would of been awesome =D
I heard he was actually scheduled for an appearance in this one, but cancelled it due to a bike accident. Who would a though it. A Jedi, put down by a bike accident, lol.
Ahh I remeber the times when I didn't know these films were the prequels to the originals. I always thought Obi-Wan would raise and train Luke, and Yoda would raise and train Leia. Oh well, I guess it makes more sense to send Luke to the exact same place his evil father was born and where his grandmother was buried.
@alakabaz3 if u think about it he did, with help from his son, he did afterall kill the emperor and restored balance to the force at the same time while redeeming himself.
@Deadeye287 yeah I know, but Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan wouldn't have known at the time :p or maybe Qui-Gon would be smug and be like, "Just give it time, you'll see" ;)
It all makes sense because in A New Hope when Obi Wan and Darth Vader Duel, Obi Wan says to Vader, "You can't win Darth, You can strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." meaning Obi Wan had learned how to become immortal.
@homefrylock its meant to explain how they learn the ability to materialise as 'ghosts' in the later films, cus if you think about it only a couple of them show up and it is not really explained.
@homefrylock qui-gon was a master of the "living force" and before he died he must've figured out all of this and has been communicating with yoda ever since. Remember how monklike he was? Well all that meditation paid off as he discovered "eternal life" so to speak.
Training for Master Kenobi??? Excuse me??? Obi Wan killed Darth Maul, helped to to kill Count Dooku, fought with Jango Fett, he saved Palpatine with Anakin, he fought with the republic soldiers, he knocked Anakin down... and Yoda what have you done??? You fought with Dooku and you lost, you fought with Palpatine and you lost too. Uhm... Which one really needs to keep training?
Everyone should watch Red Letter Media's extensive critique of the Star Wars prequels. It's one of the best videoson YouTube. So good. George Lucas really screwed the franchise up with the prequels, they could have been amazing....
I watched the Episode 1 Review and it was genious. I can't wait for watching the Review from Episode 2, 3, Indy 4 and the last Airbender (which was the worst Movie I've ever seen, I'm glad I didn't pay for that Shit). I hope he gonna make a The Clone Wars Review.
@OlhiTK No problem! Glad to help :) Funny thing is.. someone told me about them on youtube and I thanked them for it too, lol. The videos are amazing. I've not seen the Indy 4 review yet.
@newsonictheheadgehog that would not work daa but they could make star wars about the new jedi temple and like the remnants of the empire and the dark force adepts its all kinda in young jedi knights its kinda about han solo and leias children of course they are in too and luke is actualy in it too. But that would not work so good now because the most of the characters are too old now.
I think the original script had a scene with Yoda telepathically communicating with Qui Gon, but it was obviously cut for time and pacing reasons. It does seem like it was a rush to fit in so much in the last few minutes and Qui Gon was just mentioned in passing in a way that really didn't make much sense.
@swsanders there's a rumor that they tried to, but the actor who played Qui gon broke his leg and couldn't appear on set because of it. There's been talk of them trying to do it again, but this is only speculation
Okay let me explain this Qwi-Gon-Jinn doesn't show but when Darth Maul killed Kwi-Gon Qwi-Gon goes to(Jedi heaven).Yoda is trying to say that he will teach Obi-Wan how to get in contact with Qi-Gon in the speerit world.I'm glad I got that straitened out
@kennyg03 If you mean they won't remember anything of the events, they only say for C3PO to have his memory erased, not R2. There's a theory one person has come up with that explains the bridging of episodes 3 and 4 to make the events match up. Search for "star wars a new sith or revenge of the hope" and you should find it
@kennyg03 Yeah, seems to be something that's missed a lot, mostly just because people are pissed off enough at that point with what's happening with the movie
@Arwelora1337 okay i am a huge geek of star wars.. let me put it like this.... qui-gon has basically gone to heaven and he is talking to obi-wan through a spirit
@supertoamatorogible Too late. George already knows the fictional future. Now he is forced to write a true, fictional story based on actual, fictional experiences by real, fictional people.
@supertoamatorogible problem with that is that the Sith would've likely sensed their presence, and confronted them while they were still in training. Although it is interesting to think, would Vader and Sidious be able to overcome Obi-Wan and Yoda, plus two Padawans? I could see the fight shifting in favor of the Jedi.
@Link3194 I know the thinking. But, if Obi-Wan told Luke about Yoda, when Luke was about, 12 or 13, he would've been a Jedi faster, and Obi-Wan(Ben) Could've never died. But The fight into the Jedi, Im not sure about that. I highly doubt they would've had Leia as a Jedi tho. I like seeing in Episode 6, Yoda and Obi-Wan, are still alive, and Confront Sidious, as Luke does confront Vader, I would've liked for that. Yoda n Ben killing Sidious. And keeping Vader alive...
@supertoamatorogible They Couldnt. With the Sith in power, and Hunting down the Remnants of the Jedi, if they had Begun Luke and Leia's Training, the Emperor would have felt a tremor in the force. Hiding Leia on Alderaan was effectivly hiding one under the emperors nose, while the one they planed to train in the force was far in the outer rim of the galaxy on tattoine in Hutt control, and the emperor isnt interested in it. Good place for a former Jedi Knight and Jedi Patawan to hide.
i always wondered why ben kenobi was on tatooine, this whole time i was like "at least herbert the pedophile in blue harvest had a reason for being on tatooine"
So when Vader torched the Lars farm in NH, he didn't find any evidence of Luke's existence? Besides why did Leia get Organna as her last name but Owen and Beru though it wise to keep Luke's last name the same as the Emperor's right hand man?
But still, Anakin might have been willing to settle for "ghost form" (you know, so that she could talk to him and the kids) if the alternative was bettraying his master and all that he had fought for up to this point. (Note that earlier in the movie, before Anakin turned to the dark side, he really DID seem to care about this kind of stuff.)
@neoYTPism anakin was manipulated by palpatine numerous times, without palpatine's presence he would have never fallen. palpatine lied and manipulated as is the sith way and anakin was literally put into the situation where he had to choose for the one he loved which most of us would do i mean come on, but he didn't know palpatine was "lying" about knowing the secret to immortality, but in the end he brings blance and the sith are eradicated.
The point is, even with Palpatine's manipulation, it's possible that telling Anakin he can find "the secret to immortality" without resorting to the dark side could have made Anakin reconsider, and foiled Palpatine's manipulative plot. It's just that, par for the course with jedi, they withhold important information from their own followers. (Ie. Obi-Wan lying to Luke about what happened to Anakin) @gatorarman12
can you remember the name of every (for example) astromech droid seen onscreen? i always get them confused, and i'm actually *trying* to remember them, because to me they're characters, not just machinery.

" If you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine"
dominguiper 5 months ago
yeah,in the book says yoda, that qui gon was the voice off the force sice he died, and now QUI GON should teach YODA

This was a terrible scene for the fact that shoehorned a character into this movie for no reason. This scene does nothing for the saga. It might've been worth it if we actually saw Qui-Gon.

Qui-Gon comes back from the force to train ''YODA?'' The best Jedi ever gets trained by the worst Jedi ever. Now that's suprising.
starwarsfandude 7 months ago
@starwarsfandude no you got it wrong mate. Yoda has training for obi wan. Like he is giving him homework. The purpose of the training is for obi wan to be able to communicate with Qui Gonn :)

Wait wait wait... Yoda says Qui-Gon discovered the path to immortality (obviously not literally, but through the Force)... but in E6 he tells Luke, as he dies, "Strong I am with the Force, but not that strong." What gives?
jlaf27 7 months ago
@jlaf27 he means corporeal immortality, aka: remaining alive bodily. His immortality through the force is proven at the end of jedi, when you see obi-wan, yoda, and anakin (though he may not have had training, he probably had the raw talent to follow his masters' footsteps)
rmgonzo 7 months ago
@jlaf27 He means like the force is getting weaker in him which probably means hes gonna die soon which he does.
IIKorrupTxX 6 months ago
Qui-Gon should of made an Apperence in this one, as a ghost, Yoda should of Tought Obi-Wan earlier than then, like during the Clone war, maybe, then we could see Qui-Gone communicating with Obi-wan in III and for him to appear as ghost in it would of been awesome =D

Ahh I remeber the times when I didn't know these films were the prequels to the originals. I always thought Obi-Wan would raise and train Luke, and Yoda would raise and train Leia. Oh well, I guess it makes more sense to send Luke to the exact same place his evil father was born and where his grandmother was buried.
arsenalrulez1000 8 months ago
Would be good to see Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon talking again. "So Qui-Gon, bring balance to the force eh? Good call" "Yeah it looks like I fucked up..."
alakabaz3 8 months ago 2
@alakabaz3 if u think about it he did, with help from his son, he did afterall kill the emperor and restored balance to the force at the same time while redeeming himself.
Deadeye287 8 months ago
@Deadeye287 yeah I know, but Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan wouldn't have known at the time :p or maybe Qui-Gon would be smug and be like, "Just give it time, you'll see" ;)
alakabaz3 8 months ago
hey friend, if you put subtitles for those who do not speak English? I love star wars but did not understand what he said
alexston22 8 months ago
It all makes sense because in A New Hope when Obi Wan and Darth Vader Duel, Obi Wan says to Vader, "You can't win Darth, You can strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." meaning Obi Wan had learned how to become immortal.

homefrylock 8 months ago
@homefrylock qui-gon was a master of the "living force" and before he died he must've figured out all of this and has been communicating with yoda ever since. Remember how monklike he was? Well all that meditation paid off as he discovered "eternal life" so to speak.

newsonictheheadgehog 9 months ago
@newsonictheheadgehog that would not work daa but they could make star wars about the new jedi temple and like the remnants of the empire and the dark force adepts its all kinda in young jedi knights its kinda about han solo and leias children of course they are in too and luke is actualy in it too. But that would not work so good now because the most of the characters are too old now.

Qui-Gon was supposed to show up as a spirit in this movie. I was devastated that he didn't!
SoccerShadow 9 months ago
I think the original script had a scene with Yoda telepathically communicating with Qui Gon, but it was obviously cut for time and pacing reasons. It does seem like it was a rush to fit in so much in the last few minutes and Qui Gon was just mentioned in passing in a way that really didn't make much sense.

xenomorph1980 10 months ago
@kennyg03 If you mean they won't remember anything of the events, they only say for C3PO to have his memory erased, not R2. There's a theory one person has come up with that explains the bridging of episodes 3 and 4 to make the events match up. Search for "star wars a new sith or revenge of the hope" and you should find it

supertoamatorogible 11 months ago 55
@supertoamatorogible There was no way of knowing if Luke and Leia would turn out as jedi. Leia didn't remember
Theriot6592 11 months ago
@supertoamatorogible Too late. George already knows the fictional future. Now he is forced to write a true, fictional story based on actual, fictional experiences by real, fictional people.
Viccor25 8 months ago
@supertoamatorogible problem with that is that the Sith would've likely sensed their presence, and confronted them while they were still in training. Although it is interesting to think, would Vader and Sidious be able to overcome Obi-Wan and Yoda, plus two Padawans? I could see the fight shifting in favor of the Jedi.
Link3194 7 months ago
Ilovedagators 7 months ago
@supertoamatorogible They Couldnt. With the Sith in power, and Hunting down the Remnants of the Jedi, if they had Begun Luke and Leia's Training, the Emperor would have felt a tremor in the force. Hiding Leia on Alderaan was effectivly hiding one under the emperors nose, while the one they planed to train in the force was far in the outer rim of the galaxy on tattoine in Hutt control, and the emperor isnt interested in it. Good place for a former Jedi Knight and Jedi Patawan to hide.
LordBicen 6 months ago
i always wondered why ben kenobi was on tatooine, this whole time i was like "at least herbert the pedophile in blue harvest had a reason for being on tatooine"
ninjabastard2 1 year ago
So when Vader torched the Lars farm in NH, he didn't find any evidence of Luke's existence? Besides why did Leia get Organna as her last name but Owen and Beru though it wise to keep Luke's last name the same as the Emperor's right hand man?

Wait, so Qui-Gon had the path to immortality and you didn't need to resort to the dark side for it? Why didn't they tell Anakin this?
neoYTPism 1 year ago
@neoYTPism
cuz there would be no point in watching the movie and would make no sense since darth vader was bad and anakin had to become bad to fit the story.
FunkyDoozer 1 year ago
I'm asking about the logic of the jedi, not of the writers. @FunkyDoozer
neoYTPism 1 year ago
@neoYTPism
well anakin wanted padme alive not in ghost form,
FunkyDoozer 1 year ago
But still, Anakin might have been willing to settle for "ghost form" (you know, so that she could talk to him and the kids) if the alternative was bettraying his master and all that he had fought for up to this point. (Note that earlier in the movie, before Anakin turned to the dark side, he really DID seem to care about this kind of stuff.)
neoYTPism 1 year ago
@neoYTPism anakin was manipulated by palpatine numerous times, without palpatine's presence he would have never fallen. palpatine lied and manipulated as is the sith way and anakin was literally put into the situation where he had to choose for the one he loved which most of us would do i mean come on, but he didn't know palpatine was "lying" about knowing the secret to immortality, but in the end he brings blance and the sith are eradicated.
gatorarman12 1 year ago
The point is, even with Palpatine's manipulation, it's possible that telling Anakin he can find "the secret to immortality" without resorting to the dark side could have made Anakin reconsider, and foiled Palpatine's manipulative plot. It's just that, par for the course with jedi, they withhold important information from their own followers. (Ie. Obi-Wan lying to Luke about what happened to Anakin) @gatorarman12
