Well, it's not that simple actually.

Yes, perkele is associated as swear word but it's hardly anything like dammit or f**k. It originates from Finnish native religion, where it was a call for the supreme god, used as a power word, to call extra strength upon yourself. When Christianity came to Finland, the church started demonizing the old gods, even using Perkele as translation for Devil, making the use of "perkele" as a sin. Thus, it became a swear word, but still retained it's power word use.

Well, in this context it is used as a it's "power word" form and has nothing to do with swearing; he is not afraid of his odds or cursing them, rather than "showing his might" and/or "summoning extra strength". So, I think you need to. ;P

If you would replace "perkele" with "goddammit", or actually any other swear word (Finnish or English), it would change the whole meaning of the commercial.

What I forgot from my list was that it is also used as a expression of determination. Even more, an expression of sisu. So, as the word isn't associated to Gods anymore, but still retains it's power word use, one might say that he's summoning strength through sisu, by using the word.

It is not rye bread or karelian pie. It is "rieska," a traditional bread from northern Finland (where Heikki comes from). Google for pics.

@torbenput I'm still pretty sure it's a Karelian Pie. It's elliptical (well, more or less), fairly dark and has a pale line running down the middle on the top side (there's lots of butter on it but you can still see it) and obvious folds on the top side also, all of which would suggest a Karelian pie. The butter is also very chunky, suggesting it's eggbutter, not normally eaten with rieska. If it is a variety of rieska, then it's one I've never seen, one that's shaped like a Karelian pie. =)
