  • A definite tie with Johnny Cash's version. Absolutely amazing.

  • We've just seen and heard a TRUE master at work. A force of nature.

  • is their such thing as 'too good'? i could listen to this all day

  • my god steve...you are amazing and I hope befort I go I get to see you live!!!

  • The more I read about Hank, and the more of his music I hear, the more convinced I become that this is how Hank wrote the song to be played, but was constrained from doing so.

His doubts about whether or not his words and meaning would be understood or misunderstood, to me, add weight to the proposition.

Well done Steve. The best cover of this song I've ever heard.

  • This is one of the very few people on our planet that can be called a true musician. Absolutely beautiful, the man is a living legend

  • great cover

  • Oh my God, pack me up and mail me home to Mama, I've just discovered a new hero, and all thanks to Hank III. Now THAT'S da blues, y'all. White or black, yellow or red, da blues is DA BLUES, and Seasick Steve is the best and the newest I've heard in years. Stripped down to its simplest--and ain't that what da blues is all about? Nothing phoney here.

  • @jtaft57 Don't knock me for a late-comer, just welcome me aboard.

  • @jtaft57 Hello and welcome!

  • @VintageSG Thanks!

  • I look at this man and I see man whose lived through hard times. His voice, his face and even the way he strums his character displays every inkling of pain from those hard times.

  • Really refreshing after hearing a dozen cowboys sing this over affected.

  • reincarnation of johnny cash

  • Hank would have been mighty proud!

  • Jesus, man, this hits in a deep way.

  • 2 people are so lonesome they clicked unlike.

  • Saw him do this live last week in Manchester it bought the house to a stand still.

  • @mick3666 I'm a bit jealous. :( He needs to come to Germany!

  • If i keep listening to this im gonna cry.

  • Beautiful.

  • The big best song

  • I still like Cowboy Junkies' version best.

  • Lady Gaga fan didn't like this clip.

  • @sentry964 Yes,did not like!Seasick Steve fucking good!!!

  • Very nicely done, sir.

  • What is it with this man making me cry THREE times in one damn day?!

  • tears started forming the moment he started singing.. for no fucking reason, just because his voice is filled with sorrow..

  • hauntingly beautiful, well done steve!!!!!!

  • Seasick Steve gets even with his best voice this number up to the more perfect it. Great that you think of yourself even better than usual and proof it can. A real blues man from his heart, and American roots ...

  • to jggassert,he has recorded it with Amy levere it on one of his albums as a bonus track

  • Not sure why this video has a dislike.

  • @psychoticcherry1 Misclick. Or an idiot.

  • Real nice Steve......sounds like you got over being seasick ! Feels good, huh ?

  • Great performance :-)... sponsored by a truly appalling rag :-(, shut your eyes so the logo doesn’t spoil your enjoyment.

  • Ho yess!! nice cover... closer to the story than the Hank williams version... I love it!

  • I wish he would record this with Amy Lavere. They have done it live a bunch and it leaves me speechless every time I hear it

  • its not often my boat is rocked ,this is heaven

  • wow...

  • bravo!

  • I can hear it Steve........Thanks man.

  • This is music! You can feel his soul singing!

  • oh man finally the Sun did something good

    i'm amazed

  • (if I had words for it they would be here - but it really speaks for itself!)

  • Always loved this one! ♫♥

  • amy lavere is the girl on the album version of this song

  • @animalian01

What album is this song on?

  • open d I think

  • What tuning is this? Any body know?

  • @Shakeragrd1 I play it in open E, I don't sing as low though. Usually try and tune to your voice, that's what my grandma taught me.

  • @Shakeragrd1

i suppose d-a-d-g-a-d, but i'm not quit sure of the "a" string, the others i'm very shure of

  • @levisiccard, I think the a is tuned down to a g

  • That is an amazing moment at the end. . . Its 7 seconds of heartbreaking silence

  • He is the epitome of cool.

  • Hank would be proud.

  • My son turned me on to you, Steve! You are amazing!!!

  • Steve...I am without words brother...Your music speaks to my soul. May the good Lord bless you with many years here on earth with us my friend. Thank you for sharing your soul with us...and may the sun shine on your life everyday you are here.

  • I wanna c him without the beard lol

  • Great rendition

  • 25,000 people came here and none dared to click the dislike button. that's pretty rare for a community as screwed up as youtube :o) seasick steve is our 21st century window into the good old country blues, that's what he is.

  • felt this one deep in my heart!

  • He OWNS this song

  • Whenever I'm blue, I pour a tumbler if whiskey and just listen to this on repeat. Best version of the song I've ever heard.

  • he's back on that railroad truck...he been there done that...loves it fella

  • Goosebumps! I love his voice, he puts such a great amount of feeling in his music. He is already a legend!

  • Thank god nobody dislikes this song (for now, and i hope for always).

I would have screamed if someone had disliked it.

  • Awsome...!!!

  • to me, moments like these just beg the question, "Who is more important to humanity? Guys like Steve or the President of the United States?" Honestly, as an American citizen this single video has done more for me than the last 3 presidents combined. Like this if you are a proud American and you agree!

  • My god. Amazing.

  • Never knew the most retarded newspaper in the world could let something so beautiful be created

  • this guy is a legend you can really feel what he saying when he sings

  • I can listen this over and over again, I never get tired of it.

  • this song makes me think about my Daddy who is no longer with us

  • Seasick can play more than one or two strings Love it great music jn :-)

  • a blues/country god in action...

  • Bravo Steve !

  • Amazing cover.

    He owns it now.

  • when you feel down just isten to steve makes me feel beter

  • That´s IT

  • In these times of war, of anger, of global crisis, people just want to get back to what is 'real'. Steve is as real as it gets. Just look how this simple song, sang by a simple man, has made you feel. It's made you happy, made you cry...all from a simple song. The days of thinking that money is going to save you are over...it's the simple things in life that matter. "Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." Peace...

  • Awesome.

  • I just fucking cryed with it

  • god in the form of a bearded hick!

  • best cover i've ever heard of this song. The only one that can compare is Hank himself, although Waylon did a pretty good job on it. steve's voice is perfect for a

D chord on an old guitar. I blow my G harp along with him on this tune and it gives me bumps. your rare steve.

  • @dodysandifer I personally like Richard Hawley's cover. Have you heard that one I'm not sure if you'll like it but I think it's great.

  • wow...you really can feel what he's singing

  • @thebladesman Definitely my friend

  • so sweet <3

  • i could rabbit on ALL night how he is the best muso since elvis or such(haha thats a stevism)but instead i'll just say that he square kicks ALL artists today in the nuts.thats with a big fucken capital ALL

  • this guy is a total sick hes so good at playing

  • on the album version of this, who's the girl he performs it with?

  • @heHASaPOINT my album liner notes say Amy LaVere.

  • @heHASaPOINT The version from the album is so damn good, when I first heard it I was so damn touched to hear it., also I think it's Amy LaVere also

  • his low notes kinda sound like Pearl Jam's singers'

    Seasick Steve is so good!

  • steve is king :))))

  • This is beautiful!

Funny how Steve is seen as an entertainer playing on dodgy 1 or 3 strings guitars. Give him a real 6 strings guitar and a classic tune and it's a different ball game. The man is actually a great musician. Has anyone worked out what tuning he's using...

  • great musician - true , try open D

  • Open D, that's what i figured out , but unfortunately I just can't make it sound like that. I think I'll just keep playing this in standard tuning.

  • its dadf#ad , it a pretty common slide tunning , peace 8 ]

  • dadf#AD ,,, I got to laugh honestly i ve read so many time about how this great musician uses trash guitars and what not ,,, but no body notices those [ trash guitars ] one is a 1910 martin ,,, ones a metal body dobro ,, hes got a silver tone dane electrode ,, and more these alone are highly collectables and worth some serious cash ,,, any ways the tuning is dadf#ad ,,,

  • I love Hank Williams songs . So Lonesome I Could Cry is definitely my favorite.

  • it's beutifal :')
