man messed with nuclear power ... read the history of the early "unforeseen" mistakes - learning?
Research for the good of mankind or is it called greed and money ? From agriculture through industrialisation through nuclear it was money ... and now genetics and nanotechnology ... money ??? who is funding this ??? "the people" for "the people" ??? or the elite for the elite ... "the people" certainly have had their money homes and possessions taken from them so its not them!
We've always been messing with the world around us in ways that, at the time, seemed like it would be the end of man. Yet, the more we tweek our surroundings, the more benefits we get. I say let them make the cells and we'll see what happens.
About a year ago on Discovey Science or Nat. Geo. there was a show like BRINK, Sci-Fi Science. There was a segment in the sow that talked about how making food in a computer or other object (just like in the jetsons) would be a possibility very soon because they did it. They made a very simple food pattie using a computer. They also made a very elementary mechanical object. Thy pulled out of this microwave looking box. And it was all programmed, the computer sythesized atoms in their place.
We're going to create a new race, and they'll take over. Eventually, they'll forget we ever existed. Then they'll get into a debate amongst themselves about whether or not they were intelligently designed by a creator. Freaky. :-p
I think the most productive use of this, is to make it so we could survive the gravity differences on the moon, or even mars. Or possibly just underwater.
We can build literaly anything now that this step has been taken... From 100% transplantable organs.. to new bodys.. to Life forms created 100% to live survive and maintane life of this planet as we develop more! Think of it.. we could even engineer areselfs to breath NOX hahahahah WOOO
@Happylilshroom your right we can build anything with synthetic dna, any type of animal that can possibly be imagined can be made with synthetic dna. any organ, brain cells, zombie cells etc.
Dude, that's actually scary, I mean soon, spiderman will live on the bottom floor of your apartment and bat man will be some hobo with a mask and a fancy belt. The new age is coming and ready or not, no one knows what the hell is going on.
Awesome! We can't roll back the clock and undo all the environmental damage that technological advancements have caused, but technology can and must be part of the solution.
nothing right now. but this is the first step towards the creation of things like synthetic human organs, food, etc. (possibly increasing our lifespans dramatically) not to mention countless other things this could lead to.
@vivalaresistanc We can make new life forms that, for example will kill desieses, clean our houses and stuff like that. The possibilities is almost infinite.

Man plays with fire-civilization
Man messes with crops-agriculture
Man captures animals-domestication
Man fools around with lightning-modern technology
Man messes with DNA-vaccinations
Man creates life-
