  • Anyone know if this is an original tune?

  • @salvitromusic search this: Moby - Natural Blues

  • I never realized how many years TBK had been on Letterman because I quit watching Letterman a long time ago. This song is even better live. I will have to say that I sometimes do miss Dan's Epic Jesus Beard from a few years back like what he had for Magic Potion. His long hair kinda threw me off when he turned around and there was no Epic Jesus Beard on his face.

  • @timmay270 same here

  • Dan looks like Kurt Cobain here

  • Dan has a nice face --- he doesn't need anything covering it up.

  • @dcgirl919 I agree that he has a nice face. Personally, I think he's one of the most handsome men out there, but that's true with and without the beard.

  • @KellyAnn2390 Agreed. Also, something that is really impactful to me are his eyes. Lotta soul in them. Guess it matches his voice.

  • I'm a late comer to these guys but holy hell I've been missing out!

  • The White Stripes have their own style and the black keys have their own style. You can stop comparing them now

  • @auteur116 Holy shit, he does!

  • I'd love to hear a studio quality version of this performance, that heavier riff is all kinds of awesome.

  • Back when it was just the 2 of them amazing

  • Aside from how awesome Brothers and El Camino are.... this is by far my favorite

  • FUCK YEA

  • dig this sound 87% more than El Camino.

  • @PeterBlueprintRev i read the back keys blog and they were making this album different from the rest of there stuff but if you have heard all the albums they dont give off the same vibe its all ways something new and thats what i love about them i dont feel like im geting the same cd over and over agian

  • why are people comparing them to the white stripes? The balck keys is soooo much better. its seriously not even a comparison. Just listen to thickfreakness or rubber factory.... (which this song is from.)

  • still one of my favorite performances

  • I,love the Black Keys and Stack Shot Billy is one of their best songs...aw who am I kidding, they're all awesome. LOVE the balck keys.

  • The intro riff sends sends chills down my spine. And you can just tell Dan loves it too. Standing in front of that amp and just absorbing it in. He's own song is so badass it pumps himself for the rest of song.

  • This is what we call the "butt-cut" hairstyle period for the band.

  • Talk about feeling the music. This is the kind of music I love. You play from the heart.

  • oh yea thanks^-^

  • WOW O.o Patrick looks so weird without his beard.

  • @KAC047 i think you are talking about dan

  • He looks like Kurt Cobain.

Dan Auerbach is the Kurt Cobain of our generation.

  • @StairwayToHevin they're both great, and Dan Auerbach is one of my favourite guitarists, but he's not really as outrageous as Kurt Cobain.

  • @StairwayToHevin HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA nice try

  • Which guitar is Dan using?

  • @change139 Fender Telecaster. Under the video it actually says "As Seen On: Telecaster Guitar Forum" lol

  • this isnt even one of their heavier songs but they make it sound so fucking badass!

  • @tele757 You seem to criticize The Black Keys quite a bit. After looking at your Youtube Channel, which by the way is one of the worst I've ever seen, I draw one of two conclusions. Either these two musicians perform the music you wish you could, or Patrick went nine hole on your mom and you harbor ill will.

  • The Fantastic Black Keys! Great Clip and the boys are sounding great.

    A great great band,Love TimX

  • these guys are posers. The hair and the beard add to your viceral enjoyment, But they are no breaking any ground, the arrangements stink, the playing is average and nothing is interjected into it that has not been done before. No tempo changes, playing with dynamic-dan cant play the sweet blues. Even Blackmore , the guy who inspired neo-classical shredders could play the blues...Dan sort if sucks. Singing on the drone is a cover up for weak singing, lyrics and riff lame. Blind Faith better

  • @tele757 You sound like the poseur to me.

  • @tele757 Trolololo

  • @tele757 How is singing on the drone "a cover up for weak singing, lyrics and riff lame" ? A) Vocals don't cover up lyrics, they're an expression of them. The lyrics are unchanged by vocal ability. B) Singing on the drone is the opposite of what you said. It's proof of a good singer hence being able to replicate the same note to achieve a layered affect. It's more challenging, because if off it's more noticeable. I front a band. I know this. You're an idiot.

  • @tele757 They way you structured that whole comment is proof enough that you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • Why does everyone feel the need to compare them to the White Stripes and vice versa? So what, they're a two piece and they play blues rock, thats where the similarities end

  • @andyscoot43 The names are pretty similar too haha

  • @BuddyRider Not really.

  • @andyscoot43 Well its kinda like Black is similar to White and keys to stripes haha idk thats just what i thought.

  • 2:21 . BEST vibrato ever :0

  • white stripes- black keys two different bands... get it??? BOTH great but evolving to other styles!

  • ok so I need to know what model tele dan is using

  • @themanchild27 I believe it's a Jerry Donahue sig with a Dimarzio Chopper in the bridge pickup, and a bigsby.

  • dan does not look right without beard

  • @sayevan1218 Or a telecaster

  • @sayevan1218 He kind of looks like Jon Stewart, no?

  • 0:01

    Heooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo whoahhhhhhhhh

  • ha Dan looks pre-pubescent

  • i'm goin' straight down to my local pawnshop to buy an old drum kit and I'm gonna beat the fuck out of it.

  • beat the shit outta 'dem drums, boy!!

  • same blackkeys who do howling for you etc, etc? mayhap. great song

  • The start is so strong. You can tell right away, this is no joke.

  • Loved his gun and his sweet cocaine!

  • KURT COBAIN IS BACK!

  • @larslikesguitars LOL. I think he also resembles Beck.

  • waited 6 years-floor seats Edmonton Canada June 29

  • unfortunately Pats drumming is over shadowed by Dan's greatness

  • these two guys are real musicians Pat rocking the beats and Dan rocking the riffs! awesome!

  • theyre so fuckin cool

  • Easily one of the best performances on Letterman ever. Ever. EVER.

  • stack-o-fucking-lee

  • I notice that through out their albums, Dan's look changes often, but im pretty sure Pat was born looking like that

  • Two words to describe the sound....Robin Trower....great stuff

  • Stack was a black gangsta pimp from St. Louis in the year 1895. He shot Billy Lyons for grabbing his stetson hat off his head. Stack's story started gangsta rap and many awesome songs were written about this bad mofo. But this is the most bad ass version I've ever heard.

  • This is the band the White Stripes want to be when they grow up

  • @AdamEliNoah what a stupid thing to say....

  • @AdamEliNoah

Brooooooo The White Strips were the first. Jack White was Killin' it when these fellas were playin local bars. they're both sick bandssss But you can't even say The black keys (no matter how amazing they are) can stand up to The Stripes.

  • @AdamEliNoah

Yeah ! This is actually the whites stripes with a good drummer and a good guitarist. Jack White has the feeling no doubt about that but less ability than Dan.

  • @olystercrowley WHAT!. White is reveared as one of the greatest guitarist of this generation. Also his lyrics are so much better than Dan's. White plays wi/ meg... the most basic drummer in the entire industry and he still kills every song. I love TBK but Jack White is like a God of music.

  • @AdamEliNoah You moronic dick. What the fuck is up with you people dissing the Stripes. Both the Keys and the Stripes are great bands so stop with this shit.

  • @Ylviste Stop being so sensitive. He didn't say The White Stripes are bad, simply that they want to be The Black Keys when they grow up. He was basically saying they sound more mature than The White Stripes which is true because The White Stripes are trying to seem childish on purpose.

  • @TheZombieJC at first glance I felt a little taken back by the comment, being an avid stripes' fan myself.

why do people associate two piece bands with other two piece bands? that's like comparing The Dead Weather to Led Zeppelin because they're both 4 piece bands.

  • @WeirdoniaMusic Because most bands that get any mainstream attention aren't good to the audience that the two bands target, but The Black Keys and The White Stripes are both great to this certain set of people. I think it's not just that they're two piece bands but also because they're both blues based and come off as raw sounding.

  • @AdamEliNoah Yes, that's the way I got to know the Black Keys. I think Jack White mentioned them in It Might Get Loud document. I should thank him :-)

  • @AdamEliNoah did the white stripes want to grow up in the first place? both awesome bands

  • @AdamEliNoah um... no the black keys and white stripes are both great bands.

  • @AdamEliNoah I've got nothing against The White Stripes but I am inclined to agree, The Black Keys just feel so raw, authentic and soulful

  • @DudeOfManyNames I love the black keys, but they've got nothing on the white stripes (particularly live)

  • @barbicaine youre on crack. meg white live is honestly so bad it's disturbing.

  • @mrnose55q Nah, she's perfect for the white stripes brand of blues... Like listening to an old Son House LP with out of time clapping in the background- only the guitar's plugged into a fat fuzz pedal and the clapping's pounding!

  • My new deep meaning band.

  • how the hell can 6 people not like this ??

  • @TheHarry1821 funny guy lol

  • @TheHarry1821 no these guys are VERY different from the stripes dan is a totally different guitarist and singer just cause there both 2 pieces with blues roots doesnt make them the same plus they both started at the same time so they wouldnt even have been able to be influenced by each other when this came out

  • @Sinisterkidvids Well, the Stripes DID form like 4 years before the Keys. They are still very different bands, however.

  • @Sinisterkidvids full stops mate, use them

  • Best drummer i've seen live by an absolute country mile

  • I just discovered these guys, they are officially my new favorite group! (they are the real deal)

  • Wow....Dan sounds (and kinda looks) like Cobain in this clip....that is just eerie.....

  • Hmmmm, No beard. Kinda weird.

  • Do those drums owe Pat money or somthing? Cause he's just whailin on em !

  • They certainly listened to 60's bands -like Led Zeppelin --Yardbirds--Cream etc.------ I'm in my 50's --This band rocks----

  • He looks like Jon Stewart

  • Man these guys are good - if you like Blue's check out the yearly Monsteras Blues Festival in Sweden...

  • 6 insane people

  • Anyone have an idea of what guitar effects they use?

  • @IMmoreRANDOMthanYOU They've been using the Green Russian Big Muff lately.

  • I think he looks better with his moderate beard, not so much his full beard

  • @Trengo34 full beard all the way

  • when was this? they look so young, and Dan doesnt have his beard!

  • i hate that the intro solo from the studio version is in standard tuning and they cant play it with the song live.. i love that solo

  • @nappypant

having seen them live 6 times, i can assure you they do play a recognizable intro to the song every time.

  • what kind of amp is he using that is below the blues junior?

  • He doesn't look right without the beard.

  • He almost looks like Kurt Cobain with the long hair and without the beard

  • @BeauJSimpson

or u could also say joe walsh

  • @BeauJSimpson very true

  • my favorite album

  • What is happening right at the start lmao

  • I must say, Bearded Dan looks much more epic than bald face Dan.

  • jizz!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Auerbach looks like Bobcat Goldthwait without a beard.

  • wtf is up with 0:00 - 0:05?

  • Hell yeah! Rubber Factory has always been my personal favorite from their catalog. Great performance!

  • i need to get the sound dan has its mind blowing and head exploding awsome

  • i kill to have lettermans job just so i could meet bands like the black keys

  • the drumming in this is straight nasty, no one ever mentions pats abiltay

  • @blackkeychucktown absolutely! iv'e always thought that about this vid, i love how its the same drumming as the record, it sounds even better!

  • @blackkeychucktown I always comment on his drumming... I love how he attacks the drums the way he does. ;)

  • @blackkeychucktown you are absolutely correct in those two statements. shout out to the chuck from the dirty myrtle

  • @blackkeychucktown yea dude he's fucking dope to watch live. When i saw them in mpls, dan broke a strong on his guitar and without missing a beat, pat was doing this sweet drum solo while dan put in a new string on stage (he had changed out his only other guitar earlier)

  • @evans387 I was at that show and remember that happening...it was fucking awesome!

  • @Knut2129 yea and just think, 2 short years later these guys get 'artist of the year' and are nationally known.

We paid $9 to see them at arguably the best music venue in the midwest (1st ave)

  • @evans387 haha very true. I'm glad they are finally getting some recognition for their great music and hard work but at the same time I kind of doubt there will be many more opportunities to see them at such a small and personal setting like 1st Ave. They've become so popular lately that they will probably move most of their shows to bigger venues which kind of sucks.

  • @Knut2129 no kidding... oh well, we saw them there and that's what matters :)

  • @Knut2129 you listen to average music played without that extra factor., They are a predictable and average garage band. They do have good equipment and tone, but little else. Check out the real deal older groups who did this dame thing better kid. Black crowes and blind Faith are the real deal. This aint, from someone who knows

  • @tele757 1.Don't go searching for comments made months ago to criticize. 2.If you are going to criticize people at least make yourself sound intelligent and don't make spelling and gramatical errors. 3.I grew up listening to older bands like the Black Crowes and Blind Faith. I'm not a huge fan of either because I prefer other bands from those eras but I still know who they are. Lastly, don't think you know what kind of music I listen to based on a couple comments I left on youtube.

  • @evans387 this was actually at least 4 years ago, they person just uploaded the video in 08

  • @Wonderloo5000 yea i know, the BK have been putting out albums for years before this too. I was at their concert in minneapolis in 08, right when they started to become big

  • @blackkeychucktown

I love watching Patrick. He rocks the living Fuck out of his drums, it's great.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah full needed the beard.

  • there is a two piece band from Sweden named johnossi, for all you people who want more of the two piece band should look them up, they don't sound like TBK ore WS but they're okey.

  • If you ask me, They should have played " Keep Me". But nobody asked me... So... Good song anyway.

  • Dave has had the Black Keys on like 5 times, haha. He clearly loves the shit out of them, as does every sane person. Clearly, there are 3 insane people who watched this.

  • patrick rules!

  • how many times have they been on the late show?

  • They have been on lettermen like 50 million times

  • i like him so much better with a beard

  • I miss Dan's telecaster sound. He doesn't play them enough anymore. BTW, Brothers kicks ass!!

  • loved his gun and his sweet cocaine...

  • I'm always happy when modern bands make their own Stagger Lee oriented songs...

  • Just saw them live for the first time - You. yes, you NEED to see them live - they will BLOW your mind!!!!!

  • IS THAT HIM?! :o

  • Just watch Pat, He has to be one of the greatest drummers of all time, just his raw passion, it is just amazing to watch and listen to him perform. The Black Keys-definitely top ten of all time.

  • goddamit, i still love this song. forever

  • its like jimi hendrix had two kids with a better version of the white stripes

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan...Jimi Hendrix....would have loved there guys.

  • Was at the Manchester show tuesday night!! Utterly awesome!! see ya!! I'm off to the record shop pronto!!

  • he looks like my dad with no facial hair

  • this is badass bandit rock

  • Dan looks completely different without a beard. Love the Black Keys!!!!!!!!

  • woah! i was not expecting to see a clean shaven frontman turn around! haha

  • I'd like to see The Black Keys fight The White Stripes. Meg might get the worst of it but it would be a close fight I think. And it would sound amazing.

  • The Keys in a 1st round TKO

  • just wonderful

  • clean shaven.... wtf

  • @gunmetaldx Rubber Factory came out in 2004, the host said it's their new album, so this episode was also broadcasted in 2004 and back then Dan had long hair but no beard...he looked ways younger than now. :-)

  • Love this song.... Seeing them live in Oakland Sep. 29th...... PUMPED!!!!!

  • WOW....Dan w/out facial hair.....still raw and dirty :)

  • great stuff!

  • great rendition of a great classic.

  • He looks about ten yrs old w/out his beard!! Ha Ha

  • love these guys, we don't get many bands like this round here. I did see a decent band called Idle Maestro the other week, they got a good vibe goin for them and pulled off a nice cover of Stack Shot Billy. Diggin Radio Moscow at the moment too...
