  • What happens when you can't factor out a common grouping? For example, if I wanted to factor x^3+5x^2-2x-24. From this I would get x^2(x+5) - 2(x+12). Since the terms in the brackets aren't the same, and I can't seem to get them to be the same, I'm stuck. Is there another method that is used when groupings don't work, or am I missing something?

  • @ericfromcowtown1 thats exactly what im wondering too..every video on this has nicely common factors so it works out perfect. but what if they are different? i hope this prof answers

  • @ericfromcowtown1 hey if you figure this out , please reply with the answer..thanks

  • two weeks in school, didn't learn anything

two minutes on youtube, now understand concept

  • ummm.

  • Really Great!!!

  • I loooove you! Thank you so much

  • Better than my teacher

  • WHY CAN'T MY TEACHER BE LIKE YOU!!!!!!

  • Thankxxx alot

  • THANK YOU

  • You kinda sound like Kermit the Frog :)

  • You kinda sound like Kermit the Frog :)

  • Youtube: Better than school.

  • It's that easy??? WHAAAA..... This is why I hate my math teacher. Thanks :D

  • how do i do a 3 term cubic x^3-x^2-12x=0

  • Thank you so much.

  • THANK YOU, u literally just taught me what my teacher did not

  • Dude, you look like Richard Schiff.

  • Thanks. Didn't understand the final part until ur video. Thanks!!

  • Thanks my teacher can't teach so ya

  • what if there's 5 terms?

  • thanks so much hope you do a few more of these Factor my grouping ;D

  • HOw do I factor x^3-x^2+x+3

    Thank You

  • @tsukominako that would be 2x+3 because x^3-x^2=x, and that+x+3=2x+3

  • you saved my grade on my math test!!!! i LOVE YOU

  • You are the greatest human being alive

  • You should be my teacher

  • Your THE golden teacher

  • You are the man, got it after you vid 123...

  • thanks, don't know how i forgot this..

  • The exponent refers the the power on x. So when points to the last term and says the exponent is zero he means x^0=1, so -4=-4x^0

  • @horserider215larry when he say's zero he is refering to x^0=1 so -4=-4x^0

  • Wow, your the golden teacher(:

  • UNBELIEVEABLE After years of what school couldn't do... I just learned how to factor on Youtube

  • look a the resolutions 240, 360 1080 ? XD

omg i lose attention quickly -.-

  • thank you 4 explaining it better than my teacher :) :)

  • This helped me for my final i wish all teacher knew how to teach !!!

  • finally i a great teacher :) thank you so much

  • omg i love the way you explained. i wish u were my teacher.

  • lol you look like seananners with curly hair

  • WHY CANT I HAVE TEACHERS LIKE YOU?

  • thank you thank you thank you!

  • magic math man

  • THANK YOU I CAN PASS MY FINAL EXAM OMGOSH!

  • Darn, I need a teacher like that

  • thank you so much :D

  • this is great, but when theres no exponent doesn't it mean its one not zero?

  • @greenyfourteen there is no x on the last term so there is no exponent. The third term only has one exponent because there is only one x

  • @murphanator11 not true. any variable, number, or any other math term always has an exponent attached to it. if it isn't shown, than the exponent is one

  • I recommend this excellent Math channel: ( Mathmatchpoint ) to everyone who wants to become good at Math (or to someone who is already good at it). He is going to teach you Math the EASY WAY, from the basic to the advanced topics. The great thing is that his videos are categorized within playlists. It is easy to know which video to watch next. This was the least I could do for him (let people know about his videos). Thanks to him, I got 97% on my Math test.

    Go to his channel: Mathmatchpoint

  • I wish I could hire you as my personal tutor. You actually explain what you're doing. You should instruct the many instuctor's I have come across. How do I find more of your videos? Is there a name or particular web-site that I can join. I'll be happy to pay! If anyone knows, please email me cchaniz@aol.com. Thank you, whoever you are. I finally get it!!!!!

  • best teacher

  • Please, where do you teach? I need to transfer..

  • haha pull out, oh wait now i get why im watching this... short attention span

  • GREAT math tutorial.

  • i geeet itt!! :DD

  • holy crap you taught me factoring in a few minutes, thnkks abunchssssss

  • Thank you so much! This helped me a lot!

  • Seriously more helpful than text. I can definitely tell you're a practiced professor, professor :P

  • I HATE having to learn this. It really doesn't seem like I'm gonna use this in life unless I'm a mathematician or something (which I'd rather die than have that as my career).

  • Thank you! I can never seem to remember how to factor, and this video helped me in a pinch!

  • That helped so much! Thanks

Now I just have to figure out how to factor down from that last step... D:

  • @Tyler0321 Yeah that's why teachers get into teaching, for the money.Do you even know how much a teacher gets paid? They get paid a crap.Even worse if they're teaching in a middle school.20-30 kids every period. They have to correct homework, plan the lessons, and perpare the homework, tests, and alot more. Not to mention they have to teach a certian amount of stuff, in limited amount of time. You also have to rember that the teacher also has a life.

  • @Josewazheretoday you also have to remember they get paid during vacations even summer break, they get great life insurance, and they have the best vacation times!!!

  • @musicfanforeever Yeah, I guess.

  • dude thankss alott realy helpedd ur the best!!! xD

  • MATH EXAM TOMORROW!

  • @momoe42 I have my math exam tomorrow as well, hope u did good

  • You revived my math grade! DANKE!! THANK YOU!

  • WAY better than Expertvillage

  • Loving this tutor session...do you have an e-mail address!!! Help!!! Math is not my strong suit!!!

  • The video was very helpful.. Thank you..:)

  • Really wish you were my teacher. Thank you so much! :D

  • SO EASY!!! done this in 7th grade :)

  • 0:01

  • @blair91234 Crap, doesnt work

  • Great teacher! I wish I had a teacher like him!

  • hey thanks for this, u save me for my exam, because now i know how to work it out.

    cool. good work.

  • new teacher = this guy (guess what youtube this is free :P)

  • This guy is handsome!!!

  • Nice 2 :D

  • 4 doesn't have an exponent of zero. if that were the case, it would be one.

  • @swimjim4012 He means the "x" has an exponet of 0, making the x value one.

  • @koipyro ooh, ok.

  • was hat a coincidence or does it always happen that the first line of factoring was (3x - 2) and (3x - 2)? Great tut by the way!!!

  • @Koi2281fan I believe that if they don't match up that would mean they are prime. For example if it ended up being (3x-2) and 3x-8) Then the polynomial would be prime.

  • @Koi2281fan No, those two should always end up being the same, that way you can factor them out again.

  • god i actually learned from this, compared to my class today xD

  • Question: you know how you made two groups?

it looked like you did that since there was 2 subtractions around the +

    what if it was 3x3 + 2x2 + 6x + 4

do you still have two groups?

  • thank you this helped a lot

  • if you were my teacher I would get nothing but A grades in math!

  • sec 4 math sooo easyy

    lmao

  • Epic Beard Teacher

  • thank you so much for posting this, now instead of staring blankly at the test paper tommrow be able to solve these problems :) THANK YOU!

  • I love YOU!!!!

  • thnk u dude like seriously ur so much better then my teacher!

  • nice beard.

  • thank you

  • i can never tell if if the numbers a negative or if they want you to subtract.

  • u r so helpful! thank you.!

  • summer school seems harder than it was during the year :/ fml

  • DUDE keep posting!!! you just saved my life!!!!

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I'm saved I have a math exam tomorrow and this just saved my life!

  • this guy rulez!!!

how abt 2 different unknowns like

    r(r)-10r+25-s(s)???????

  • just saved my life

  • i have a question, when you get 3x-2 twice wont it be (3x-2)^2? (squared) ...

  • that made it so much easier

  • as already mentioned by some commenters here, this guy is just wrong. The exponent of 4 is 0? I'm not even a mathematician...

  • so then 4x cubed-3x squared + 10x-6 would be factored x squared (4x-3x) 2(5x-3). the factored form would be what then? (9x-3) (x squared+2) or would the 4x be subtracted from 5x and leave it (1x-3) (x squared +2)?

  • you're a terrorist.

  • @TheAlbozdejvi such a lire my friend is from there and he said he never herd of this

  • what is it called when ur factoring x^3-8 factoring out x-2????

  • wat if grouping doesnt work. as in we dont get 2 of the same factors?

  • my teacher took 2 weeks to unsuccesfully teach me factoring, and a book tought it to me perfectly in 2 sentences

  • i just cant wrap my head around it!!!!!!! I do well in math, but i just cant do this!

  • -4 has am exponent of 1 not 0 dickhead

  • @Riaz611 his talking about the x with the coefficient 4 where the power of x is 0 resulting to 1 multipled by 4 therefore they omit x to the power 0. u should mind ur language it will do u good that is if u want be good?

  • Oh my goodness I wish you were my math teacher , you make complete sense !! Thanks for this video !

  • dude your awsome!

  • @ClipShowMaster no such thing as "power of 1" powers is when numbers aremultiplied by itself so it can't really be to the power of 1 , that just doesnt exist power of 0 is really what it is

  • i got home had to do my homework and had no clue since i forgot im so glad that these vids are on youtube

  • Õh crap. THis is what we are learning now in Math.

  • i get everything except the last part where you get the answer can you explain it more someone?

  • You're seriously a lifesaver. I have an exam tomorrow morning and missed the class on grouping. You have saved my life as an algebra student. Thank you so much.

  • I love this man!

  • my problem is 12p^3-21p^2+28p-49 and when i did the whole factoring thing i got p^2(12p-21)+7(4p-7) is that correct because it doesnt have the same thing in parenthesis ....does that mean that there is no solution?

  • @nave747 The only time when there is no solution, is when you cant factor it fully, like he did in the video. In that case, you would simply write, "prime"

  • @nave747 you can also try gouping the odd and even powers first....and remember that factoring doesn't have to leave whole numbers in the groupings.

  • i wish he was my teacher!!

  • Why am I seeing the subtitles all at once over the video?

  • i love this man

  • thankz Man

  • thank you that was great help you method of presentation was simplified in a way that I could understand

  • great videos really helpful

  • thanks dude, very helpful

  • Lol you just helped me with my homework thanks haha

  • Thank you (:

    I didnt know how to check my answer b4 (;

  • Thank you

  • thnz tht was a great help!

  • And 1 times -4 equals -4. Who is dumb?

  • i rly hope ur a teacher cuz if not u ould be wasting a lot of talent that many students could benefit from......great vids!!!!

  • thank you dude so much you saved my butt ! my teacher CANNOT TEACH. you make it SO much more condensed and WAY more logical. THANK YOU SO MUCH

  • @poilllethhsggfwro He's talking about polynomials here. If there was a letter in front of the last term then yes the exponent would be 1 but because -4 is a coefficient there is no exponent.

  • thank you verrry much!

  • i hate my teacher ur way better this is so easy !!! thank you !!

  • you are a fantastic teacher! i really appreciate you posting this because you make it so simple to learn it, when i thought it would take so much longer! thank you!

  • not bad

  • thank u so much! i think our math teacher needs to watch u cuz she has no idea whats shes doing or how to teach. i think id be failing if it wasnt for videos like these.

  • @Clemaire123 Same here! These videos are my only hope!

  • @Clemaire123 same

  • I really appreciate this!!!! my Math teacher is just like: "Ok, do this." If i try to ask a meaningful question they just say "No, do what i told you."

    Sincere thank you

  • God, our school system sucks...all it took was a simple, explanatory video to learn what my teacher has been teaching for weeks.

  • what if you have a problem like X^5-4X^3+5X-11?

  • @collegehuman1990 i would do

    (x^5-4x^3)+(5x-11)

    x^3(x^2-4)+(5x-11)

    there i get stuck...

  • It's a false polynomial.

  • thank u so much!! our exams are tomorrow and i don't understand a single thing what our math teacher taught... anyway, thank u sooooo much!!!!

  • i hate my 7th grade math and still didn get this math problems

  • wow my teacher really sucks, this is so easy. She makes things so much harder!

  • nice beard hahaha

  • WTF??!!! still not gettin' aNy tomorrow's my math test!!

  • ooooooooooh noow i get it... thanks a bunch!!! n.n

  • you should replace my idiot teacher!!!

  • my teacher is hard to understand, but urs is easier ty.

  • Now I'm ganna do tha same for here mmkay!!

  • Thank you!

I have a test tomorow, and my teacher is crazy.

But I finally understand this now!

  • wow thanks

  • my teacher sucks

  • well taught

  • omfg!!! im about to start passing my math class!!! thank you so much!

  • i understand everything but just 1 question what happens if of the numbers in the brackets weren't the same

  • Wow, you taught me more in this video then what I learned this week

  • you lost me when you were at the last step.

  • how do u factor somethign that has no GCF? like:

    x^3-6x2+11x-6

this is what i got til i got stuck

x2(x-6) but there is no GFC for +11x-6 so thats where i got stuck :(
