  • Horse racing kills thousands of horses yearly, just because they arent good enough to compete.

Also, at the age of 2, horses skeletal systems haven't finished developing, putting them a t and even higher risk for injury.

Horses are even drugged; given Lasix, cortiscosteroids, phenylbutazone. Be My Royal finished a race limping, and it was suspected he was given morphine.

When horses can no longer race, they are sent to slaughter; stuffed in overcrowded trailers and inhumanely killed.Sounds cruel.

  • Sure they love to run, but they run them too young and too hard. That makes them lame and when they are no good anymore they are sent to auction or slaughter. Most of the horses owners are in for the money and dont care for the well being of the horse.

  • @LiveLoveRidebikes Most of trainers care about their horses! If this isn't the case, why do the horses always look so beautiful and aren't afraid of their trainers?

If you think they run to hard, watch the Belmont Stakes race 1973 of Secretariat! This horse runs it all alone without any pushing!

  • Sure they love to run, but they run them too young and too hard. That makes them lame and when they are no good anymore they are sent to auction or slaughter. Most of the horses owners are in for the money and dont care for the well being of the horse.

  • What if, say, 20 horses end up abused/dead/slaughtered for every one that lives out a comfortable life? Would that be worth it? I don't know the numbers, but I bet it's like any pro sport: there are a few great ones, and most fall by the wayside. I agree that racing in itself doesn't HAVE to be cruel. But it's big business, and the people in charge aren't going to knock themselves out making sure money-losing horses are treated well and get good homes.

  • instead of thinking about jobs think about how many horses die along the way

  • To say its a sport is an insult to sports. It is pure torture.

  • @sorrialover - contiueing ... there was 47 ott tbs there and guess how many went to the knackery ... 39'!! .. 39 got slaughted becouse the owners were to slack to find them a home ... mmm and considering that there was 60 horses all up at the sale , the tbs were the majority ... yes not all owners are cruel but most are sadly ... .. im gonna take a guess that u like racing or are in the industry ! .. my ex racer died recently due to stomach problems from high concentrated feeds form his race day

  • @sorraialover i do no tha facts , well the australian facts -probs should of stated that, woops- .. horses do get efected by the feed due to the high consetrated feed ( fact 92% ) of horses develope stomach alsars, tumers, weak lining of the stomach and acid build up .training at a young age the horses develope weak bones ... wich can easly brake wen running at high speeds. other horse sports dont allow horses to compete untli they are 4 < this is in australia . and at the last Camdon sale

  • do you what horseracing to stay or go i dont get it

but i do now i want horseracing to go today right now is so cruel i hate it my horse when down at a race because my freind raced her she is in heaven now but it was cruel of the jockey to push her she broke her leg because of the jockey she did run better then the horses but not that time she was saying she cant do it i no now that horses hate horse racing just as much as i do my horses are all died now because of cruel people rest in peace

  • @MegaHorseracer The horses don't hate the racing they love it, thats what horses were born to do run!

  • @alex995 if poeple didnt use the methods they use it would be ok ... not traing young .. stabling 22 hours a day ... grain feed ... and disgarded and slaughted ... not all get slaughted but majority do wif really pisses me off :/ ... but if poeple love there horses y do soo many get slaughted and y do horse lovers support this industry?

  • @kyro601 Yea my horse was sent to slaughter but we rescued him. The only horses sent t slaughter is by people who dont care. Of course though, I dont believe the people who do love horses ar really doing much to right slaughter, that I know of. I do know racehorse owner who take marvelous care of their horses, and aren't like the others, though not everyone is that way.

  • i am not a fan of this sport but did u take into consideration that:

1-due to training at a young age the horses develope weak bones ... wich can easly brake wen running at high speeds

2- due to the high consetrated feed ( fact 92% ) of horses develope stomach alsars, tumers, weak lining of the stomach and acid build up

3- sadly 86 % of tbs end up at the knackery

there are the good and bad sides of racing ...

good - provides jobs for people

thats the only good i coul think of :/

  • @kyro601 Yes actually that goes along with my point. I am do NOT agree with the young training at all. As I say to everything that people say about abuse, it's not the sport or anythin that hurt the animals, it's the people. No on is forcing the people to run the horses that young, or whip them like that. If people weren't cruel to animals horse racing, or anything involving animals, would'nt be so bad as it is.

  • @kyro601 You need to learn your facts because 1- regular riding horses are trained that early as well they have a saddle on them by the time they are 2.

2- There feed is not hurting them, the feed they get is to make them hyper, stronger and faster.

3- Not that many horses end up at the knackery because they are either put down right there at a barn or sold to someone who will use them as riding, ( there is to many horses in the population anyways) Horses LOVE to run, racing is not hurting them.

  • I have nothing against horse racing, my grandpa runs a farm, but I am just saying that sometimes they take the whipping too far.

  • @HrsLvr47578 Yea I do realize that. I wish they didn't have the whips. See the thing is, the sport is not cruel, it is the people, some of them.

  • I forgot to tell u u only have one fact wrong.the horses do get hit with the whips but tapping a 1200 pound animal with a stick isnt cruel.

  • @ruffianrulz Yea I known they do, but they're not suppose to. Supposedly.

  • @ruffianrulz some don't get hit with the whip and people make it sound worse by saying whip, but it's accually called a crop and I use when I jump my horse.

  • I agree with u. HORSE RACIN ROCKS!!! And PETA are just damn sluts

  • The second reply is very true actually. I'm sorry, I just got so frustrated... Sorry to hear about your horse.

  • @EbonyLover4Ever Yea I know, and he is doing better now, thankfully. I know what you mean about getting frustrated...I have myself quite a bit

  • I disagree and agree with you. I also hate PETA because they are trying to make it illegal to ride hoses because it is "cruel". I agree that some people whip them and stuff, but take it away from everyone! That is outrageous!

  • Comment removed

  • @EbonyLover4Ever You think I only care about winning. Bull! What am I gaining from winning, I dont freaking have a racehorse...well I do but I never raced , he's an ex. His owner only cared about racing and my horse was abused badly. I care so much about my horse and making him better. I dont know what I would do if anything happens to him. My whole world would fall apart without him. I know plently of things with horseracing is wrong and bad but if all that stuff changes it really isnt that bad

  • @EbonyLover4Ever There are cruel people in the sport that makes it completely unbareable. It's not the sport that ruins the horses it's the people. I know people that don't race thier horses at 2 they wait. If they could change it so horses couldn't be raced so young and whips weren't aloud, and such, it really wouldn't be any worse than anything else.

  • Slaughter. Hundreds of thousands of innocent creatures going to suffer the worst death imaginable. So you're saying instead of just having a few horses a year get seriously injured or killed, you would rather have hundreds of thousands sent to slaughter and suffere the worst death ever. Yea real smart there people. Real smart...

  • I just gotta say one thing. So you people want horse racing banned right? Well think fof this. Where the hell do you think all these horses will go?? How many people are going to want to taken in a fast energetic high strung thoroughbred to keep? How many people? Not many. So where do you think they will go?

  • Ummm Racers whip their horses, my grandfather runs a Thoroughbred racing and breeding facility and the jockeys do whip the horse. it is cruel. stop making lies -.- (you are the one that doesn't know anything bout racing)

  • @HrsLvr47578 Listen, do u REALLY think hitting a 1200 pound animal with a stick will hurt them? No. And, if horses wanted to, they could kill all the gate handlers in a second. One thoroughbred can over power ten gate handlers VERY easily. I work around horses all the time. They are not wimpy little babies. They are one of the strongest animals on the planet.

  • @ruffianrulz They have feelings too. And did you know that after racers have raced their career and they don't have any more use for the horses, they shoot em. Put em down. Even the good ones.

  • @HrsLvr47578 not true all the time, a lot of the time they are given to people who will use them or sold to other racers. And think of this would you rather they go to slaughter or be put down.

  • That knocks out almost every whip argument that can be dished out. If a horse was truly in pain from being so called 'beaten' with a whip then they would be scared out of their mind of every jockey, saddle, trainer, or tack.

    Any more takers?

  • The whips that the jockeys use are constructed to maximize "slap" and minimize "cut." They make a good popping noise when you use one correctly, but don't inflict a real sting. A horse would jump sharply away from a real sting, and in a race that's the last thing you'd want." ~ Quote from Yahoo Answers

  • What is actually true is that most horses, if they find that the rider doesn't discipline them if the fail to move out when asked to do so, will do the minimum that they can get away with.

  • They also use the whip to cue a change of leads when necessary.

I would guess that you probably haven't ridden many horses; people who haven't tend to think that horses will willingly extended themselves if the rider asks them to.

  • If a horse is bearing in or bearing out, the rider has to use the whip to make the horse keep a straight course. Horses usually move away from the whip, so a rider will use the whip appropriately to keep a horse traveling straight, or alternatively to urge him to take a different path.

  • A jockey cannot hit a horse that is clearly out of the running for a "place," i.e., a part of the purse, unless they need to do so for safety. Bear in mind that jockeys ride in a crouched position that makes it nearly impossible for them to use their legs to give the normal leg aids riders use to cue a horse for a turn or to go faster.

  • For starters: in a lot of cases where it looks like the rider is hitting the horse, he may just be showing the whip to the horse. Some riders will do that before they hit a horse; they wave the whip quite strenuously, but the horse isn't being hit. (Look at the riders who seem to be hitting a horse on the neck or shoulders. Chances are that the rider is showing the horse the whip, not hitting him.)

  • If this is an issue of whether or not the whip touches the horse than this is simple:

"There are rules that jockeys have to follow with regard to the use of the whip during races. Rules that govern the type of whip that can be used, where on the horse's body the jockey can apply the whip, and in some cases how many times the rider can use the whip.

  • honestly, i agree, thorughbreds love to run but, my horse is a retired race horse he was raced every sngle day of his like for 3 years. People costantly hitting him with a whip and stabbing him with spurs, so yeah they love to run, but take away whips and spurs. then tell me its not cruel

  • haha the race doesnt touch the horse made me laugh, are you serious?? i own 4 quarter horses that race at los alamitos, and trust me, the whip touches them..what do you think is the slapping sound you hear when they are passing buy lol...hahaha "the whip never hits" gimme a fucken break

  • @lubenrox I dont know where you are from but around here, when you flick a whipe it makes a sound whether it hits anything at all. So around here, they dont hit the horses with whips, because it's not allowed and cant cause Steward's Inquiries. The slapping noise it makes in the wind during a race, is what drives the horses on. I've been hit be a whip accidently before, and it left a mark. Wouldn;t you think it would on a horse? I haven't seen marks o a racehorse before ever, unless they did

  • @lubenrox whip it the horse did, and of course the jockey should have, and probably did, get in trouble for it.

  • So you defend animal abuse. You sick bastard. Rated your video 0 and flagged.

  • It's not animal abuse. Think what you want I honestly dont give a damn

  • It is abuse. So think what you like. I dont give a shit! Animal abuse supporting bastard!

  • @no1horselover If you knew anything about horseracing you would know it;s not abuse.

  • Ha, shows you know shit all about racing. It would take at least 6 comments to write down all the cruelty envolved.

  • Shows what you know! =D

Lemme ask you.... Ever trained, or started a horse?

  • @AsylumPlease Yes I have, I am into natural horsemanship and have trained

many horses. and I know the cruelty envolved in this "sport" over 60,000 unwanted, unloved racehorses are slaughtered every year because they wernt good enough at the track or sustained injury. Many dont even make it to the track after their training because they wernt fast enough.

  • It's really the only cruel thing about it. You can't deny their over-bred. A mustang can go through hell and back and live to tell the tale. Racing Thoroughbreds? Not so much.

  • The cruel thing about horse racing is their breeding. It's not humane to over-breed such creatures. This is why they're always dropping like flies. They're not built to sustain damage. Remember the legends that died after injuries? Barbaro?

  • breeding didn't have to do with injuries. you don't breed the horses til after they are retired so breeding couldn't have caused the injuries, but some are over-bred. Barbaro don't count cause he wasn't bred ye XD. At least on one half his owners tried to help him, and wen they couldn't they let him go peacefully instead of letting him suffer miserbly or sending him to slaughter.

  • Over-bred meaning that they were bred to be so light-weight and fast that they break easily.

  • I suppose a better way to put it, is that they're very in-bred.

  • Ah okay. Yea that is true

  • Other than that, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the sport of kings.

  • Thank You

  • so true

  • I'm 50/50 when it comes to horse racing. I own a horse that is an off the track race horse, so I know exactly what it's like. That's all I have to say.

  • awesome exactly what i was thinking it gets really anoying when you watch the "horse racing kills" vids and they say they are unhappy well if you look in there eyes they are all sparkly and they just lov it even my dad (who doesnt like horses) rekons that they are fine Thanks heaps For the vid tells me there are other people out there that think the same way as me.

  • i know lots of horses die each year but to tell u the truth most die in racing they run extremley fast trip break their legs then have to be put down for example, babaro, eight belles ruffian by the way i only named a few plus lets not be mean k

  • I do regret being so mean but I am sooo tired of what people say about it, and they know nothing about the sport at all. They go from sheer ignorance or what other people claim. Yes I know many horses die from it, and that they start them too young,ad I do dislike that very much. Plus I do not like how people say we should not ride horses. History was made on the backs of horses and if it weren't for them we wouldn't be here, or the world wouldn't be the same at least.

  • i know my life is all about running on the track im goind to n.a.r.a jockey college in kentucky and if those people that say the harses are mis treaten with the schraches on there legs well thats just because there goofy and act like little three year olds i know because a horse at the stablr=e igo to and his name is cat he is a three year old and he is very mischeovious he gets in play fights with joe all the time and he is retired because he did not runfast enough

  • yeah i agree that they die in other sports 2 but u like it i don't oh yeah don't u talk 2 me like that u jurk RETARD

  • I can talk to you however I want. If you don't like it go cry to someone who cares.

  • pt 2 . JOCKY= whips his horse 33 times in a race ur CRUEL in fact ruffian snapped her leg then was forced to gallop her HEART OUT THEN she snapped her pastern AGAIN i dont give a twig if they lose there JOBS horses are free they are very powerfull and one day they will turn aggasinst YOU 4a reason hum.JURK.IDON'T CARE WT YOU THINK ur nobody all you care about is winning money on the horses that gallop for ur money

  • DONT EVEN EVER FUCKING TALK TO ME LIKE THAT AGAIN YOU BITCH! You are the one who doesnt see, who is blind. I know a racehorse, he loves to race but was spoild by a horrible owner, not th sport. You can only look into the eyes of these horses and really see. They love racing. Really how many times must I say, the whip NEVER touches th horse. \Dont ever dare say I dont care about the horses and onl the mony. Can't care about the money if I get none from it dumbass. The reason the horses gethurt is

  • What a mouth you have, and yet you tell that person not to talk to you like that? Childish and petty. You said you do not get money from the races, which would mean you do not participate in them, therefore you can only speculate what goes on. I know the racing industry and I know it well. The whip does touch the horse, and quite a lot, as it does in some other equine sports. It does not leave a mark due to their thick hide, and lack of force the jockey is able to put behind the blow.

  • becase here in america the track surfaces are too hard for the horses, which is why we need a more softer track for them to run on. The fact that two die a year came from Jockeys (Real life show)

  • Ya I agree. I love horses. I don't whip horses and force young horses to run a MILE in under then two minutes! Gawd! You USE the horse for freaking money. Its mean. People whip their horse as many as desired and pull on the bit. the whip does too touch the horse DUMMY. 1:09 blue guy is RAISING the whip. You're two and forced to race for MONEY. nothing else. A mile in less then two minutes.......

  • Are you involved in horseracing? No. Don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about if you've never had experience with it. The WHIP DOES NOT TOUCH THE HORSE! I ought to know, and no horse is forced to this. They love to. There are plently of people out there who care more about the horses than their money. Just because you are selfish jerks and don't care to realize there is good people in this world is not my problem. .

  • Yes they run a mile under two minutes, (well not all of them do...) but its a fact that thoroughbreds run 40 miles per hour, so of course they would. No one forces that speed. Not all races are a mile either retard. You can clearly see th whip never touches the horse. If it did, marks would be on the horse from the whip. There never is. The whip NEVER touchs the horse.

  • You get ur facts right =2 horses die a year from horseracing i don't think so TELL ME in one race in 1980 7 horses tripped over and died 2-7 big difference [duh] Ruffian stared racing when she was 1 and died at the sad age of 3 she

  • You are niave if you think that the sport is a family fun competition where at the end of the day the owners, grooms and horses all go home and live a happy doo daaa life, if the horse ends up injured during a race it will be SHOT!!!! How is that NOT cruel?? Would you shoot a family member if they ended up injured? .....

  • I've said this dozens of times...there are cruel people who abuse animals, that are not just racehorses, but anyways yes there are cruel people who abuse animals and then there are the ones who care. who help their horses, to heal and get well. there will always be more good in the world than bad.

  • 18000 foals are born into british and irish racing industry, only 40% become racers, the rest may be slaughtered or change hands in a downward spiral of neglect. FACT - 400horses are raced to death every year.

  • The grand national is a major event every year, but no amount of trainin can prepare a horse for that kind of run, thats why alot suffer cardiac arrest after a fall, suffer major injuries to their legs after snaggin them on ridiculously high jumps n strain themselves with the run. Of course horses are born to run, but we r FORCING them to run. I dont believe the sport should be banned but aspects of racing do need to change. The sport may seem harmless but its all for financial gain.

  • Deffintly Not Cruel

    Horses Are Born To Run

  • Some of them are. Others are born to jump or ride around in circles on the merry go round. :)

  • open your eyes and geta fuckin clue!!!! IM GONNA RUIN YOUR BOX!!!

  • I agree with you, horse racing is NOT cruel! i do believe that some ppl in it do drug their horses and abuse them but that doesnt mean that the whole sport is cruel! the horses luv to run and many jockeys luv the horses they ride like Edgar Prado, Mike Smith, Jeremy Rose, and Alex Solis :) i am a HUGE fan of horseracing and see nothing wrong with it :) i watch all of the triple crown races :) and later i hope to become a jockey when im old enough :D

  • oh my aunt is a owner that has her horse race but stopped because they got back on the horse without her permission and practiced like 1 hour after the race and her horse died from not getting cooled down or bathed nothing

  • Only two die a year. That was because of the people who was taking care of the horse wasn't paying attention to the horses needs and was being careless. Not everyone is like that. Most of the people involved with racers know how to take care of a horse, and indeed does all of those things. But there are careless people who don't take care of their horses, same for any other animal. As I said before, there is always more good in the world than bad.

  • well how many horses and people die from it

  • I TOTALLY AGREE horse racing is not cruel yes some poeple make it cruel but cme one people i have race horses some people use drugs but some people don't.and i have seen more poeple and horses die from jumping, barrel racing,Bull riding ect. and i do all of those things no matter what sport you do there are ALWAYS risks! GREAT video by the way more people need to get it through there head that it's not a horrid forcing sport!

  • accidents*** sorry wouldnt fit

  • I actually quiet enjoy working with horses that have the racing training! there alot funner and they have more drive and determination then ive ever seen in any other horse Ive worked with! yes some things jockeys do or the racing industry does is wrong but so is things that us jumpers so ect. I know my horse loves to run and she had a horrible accident where she broke a part of her leg and it isnt stopping her from doing everything she loves even tho it will someday theres always going to be

  • i dont want horse racing band i want them to stop using whips

  • Yea. It actually isn't aloud to use the whips to where the whip actually touches the horses flesh and if jockeys do they can get time off from races, maybe not even be able to race again. Though that doesnt mean people dont hit the horses with the whips. That's a good point. They probably should get rid of them. If the whips dont even hit the horse then there's no real point for them.

  • A lot of times the bat is used to keep the horse on the right stride. Has nothing to do with speed.

  • I think horse racing is cruel ... you know why those horses run ? Becouse they feel that something is running after them and they don't like it ! My ant worked as a vet. in horse races and believe me it is totaly cruel ... they drug them the put acid on their legs and when the race is finished the skin come with the protection that the have un their legs ! They fall more than other horse sports in races they make horses run lik craziy and after they are meat piece of meat ! I'M SORRY IT IS CRUEL

  • That's true that they do fall alot, but really, only 2 horses die a year in horseracing. THat's not alot. Most horses after retiring racing do not become meat at all. They are used for breeding. Just remember that, there will ALWAYS be more good in the world than bad.

  • Your argument about people losing jobs is false logic. If we shut down the drugs trade or the porn trade people would lose their jobs. Allowing something that is wrong to continue because of employment is a false argument.

The UK jockey club has recently introduced cushioned whips to minimise the effect on the horses. Why do that if they don't hit them?

Because other sports hurt horses or are dangerous doesn't make it right.

    All your arguments lack logic.

  • Ok one, cushione whips don't matter, it doesnt touch the horses anyways. Horseracing is not wrong, and unemployment is not the entire arguement, but it is true people would lose their jobs if horseracing was stopped. I don't know why they changed the whips ask them, probably to shut people who complain up. Exactly, I know it isnt right, so I'm wondering why I mainly see people critizie horseracing and not those other sports. i never said it was right now did I? .

  • (cont from other one)Though we shouldn't stop any of these because they are dangerous, the whole world is dangerous and it can't be avoided. Though it is sad when people are cruel to their animals and that can be fixed. This doesnt lack logic, you lack knowledge.

  • Thanks. I'll check it out. Thanks for your support too ^_^

  • THEY ARE STILL RISKED TO INJURY AND DEATH! EITHER WAY!!! Fine if you think horseracing is dangerous, then so is every other sport. If you will not race horses, then dont jump them in show jumping. The don't put them in rodeo's! HORSERACING IS NO MORE DANGEROUS THEN ANY OTHER HORSE SPORT! THIS IS NOT ANIMAL EXPLOTATION!!! THE ANIMALS LOVE TO RACE ON TRACK AND ITS NOT BEING SELFISH EITHER. THE OWNERS CARE ABOUT THEIR HORSES. THIS IS NOT EXPLOITATION!!! USE YOUR HEAD WILL YOU!!!
