Jordan is just the funking truth, I don't care if someone think Kobe is better, just look at who is the natural born athlete, it's Jordan all the way. Kobe said it him self, Jordan is the G.O.A.T!!!!
Yeah MJ & LeBron travel, sometimes, but only people Refs included who could never handle the rock against NBA competition wanna call it or hear it called or joke about it being called over & over & over..... etc.
Mj Was a better rookie. OReb (big mans game) almost equal. Steals & Blocks greater. B. Wallace & B. Russell would say Larry Lengend has no excuse. FG%, higher. Yeah Bird shot 3's so does the 41% help or hurt. FT% higher & MJ avg'd bout 5 more attempts per game. Mj avg'd more t.o's but MPG & FGA's say he had the ball alot more & closer defenders (FTA's). MJ couldnt make his team pass the ball they chose to. And I dont think his passing game improved cuz he avg'd the same his whole career. He was
I used to have serious rage fits watching watching Jordan play because he was a traveling maniac. The commentators called it a "Stutter-step".. Uhhhhgggg...... I respect Jordan's athletic ability, but man... Does that boy travel. I was raised watching Larry Bird play. That guy was a friggin basketball ninja disguised as a geeky white dude. His passing game "Slap passes" used to boggle my mind. And of any player in history... I would NOT want to be defending Bird with 2 seconds left on the clock
beginning of pussification of NBA by end of NO CALL in past when offwensive athletic guy jumped into defeder, NO call, up to offensive to make the play, but NAB got pussified and made game much easier for short driver sliek jordan cuz eveyhting a foul even if offensive rams into defender or jumps into defender, should jsut be no call, FANS watchign for good block fucked
bird si greatest ever, equal offense, and made mates better, jordan meely a gunner who is allowed later in carrer to hack shit outa everyone 10 fouls a game but not caleld cuz they built this image to sell to nerdfs
MJ as a rookie averaged 28 ppg on 51.5% shooting, with 6 apg, 6 rpg, and 2.4 spg. Many people also don't know this, but he actually led the entire league in overall points in his rookie season. Good freakin grief that is just beast.
Honestly, I think was it's to early in the NBA to say that Michael Jordan was the beat player of all time. I think you can say he was best at his position, but not the greatest. Jordan wasn't a small forward, power forward, of center, and he does not have the greatest point, assist, rebounding, or blocking record. I think it's wrong to make Jordan the best and exclude other players of that time of earlier.
@Flipper79able I hope you stop saying Bird was the only new addition to the team. Interesting that you just gloss over that easily researched, glaring error.
How the heck do you call 22 points a game not 'much'? Why don't you just give Bird credit for those guys contribution and bump his PPG to 43? That's right, 22 a game is MORE than Birds 21.3PPG...
Not sure what our exact argument is now-that Bird is better, or that he was better early in his career before MJ surpassed him.{MJ had his LOWEST APG total during a ring season BTW] But hell, dismissing 22PPG as trivial just made me lose interest, especially when its more than Bird himself managed
I think what's interesting is that even the announcers say it seems Larry wanted to prove something in this game. As smart as he was I don't doubt that he had a sense how good Jordan would be as early as anyone else.
That shot Larry hits at the 8 min mark of this video is an example of a player knowing he cannot be stopped.
Bird was better. The early 80s Sixers and mid 80s Lakers Larry's teams had to content with were so much better than anything Jordon had to face. Those teams beat his 4 times
I gotta say that when Bird was healthy he was the better player over Magic Johnson IMO. Magic was just a bit more durable. Young MJ had to work so much harder early on before he became super efficient
Plus you have to remember the bulls were pretty old by 96 compared to a younger 86 boston team. Now you take a prime Rodman/Pippen/Harper/Jordan they would destroy the celtics despite the frontcourt. Your talking about the two greatest perimeter defenders in the game Jordan/Pippen.
yeah it is true. I am a die hard bulls fan/ MJ fan. but seriously there is no way that the 96 bulls front court could have stopped Parish/Mchale/Walton. Granted Rodman could hold one of them down but what about the rest?and the threat from BIrd? hard to imagine bulls winning but then again the bulls did have Michael Jordan so its possible.
jordan is so, so, so incredibly quick. the 86 celtics were great, but i think the 96 bulls would've beaten them. jordan and harper would've feasted on the two celtics guards, ainge and dennis johnson.
And McHale-Bird-Parish and Walton would have feasted even more on those 3 Frontliners for Higher % Shots. A Great Offensive-Defensive and Passing Frontline Will Always Beat a Weaker Offensive and Non Passing Frontline
@Markees88 Ugliest team? They were the best. The way they passed the ball to each other was the best. That's why next to the Lakers they were the greatest team of the eighties.
@Flipper79able I don't mean how they played. Bird was an absolute sniper. But man were they all kinda funny looking. Mchale. Bird. DJ. Walton. Hilarious styles.
lucky lefty you are correct. Everyone always says that Michael Jordan beat up an old larry bird and Magic Johnson. Four years are you kidding me? Wasn't Jordan playing in 2003 and making 40 plus. Yeah he was
No excuses. Bird was a winner since his highschool days so it didnt matter how great that celtics team was. U put bird in a team with all WNBA players and play in the NBA they will proabably make it to the playoffs. He was just a winner period
Bird is the deadliest shooter this game has ever known u dipshit. If Jordan came out the same time as Bird and Magic Jordan wouldnt have all those championships and MVP's trust that. The 80's teams were way better than the watered down 90's teams jordan was beating
Depends. If MJ had the type of supporting cast that Bird and Magic had, he'd probably be in the running for MVP too. I ain't dissing Bird or Magic cuz they're definitely some of the greatest, but to be fair, they had great supporting casts in the 80s.
@uberathlete I have heard so many people say Jordan would have been better if he had the supporting cast Bird and Magic had. That is fairytale too many people tell. Jordan had Pippin, Cartright, Paxson, most of the cast from his first Championship in the late eighties when Magic and especially Bird were beating him. The only thing that changed was Jordan's playing style. With the Piston's "Jordan's Rules" which meant double and triple teaming him he had to learn to pass and be a team player.
@Flipper79able Pippen Cartwright and Paxon? Pippen was pretty awesome, but I hope you aren't comparing Cartwright to Parrish, let alone Kareem. And Paxson? Nice little player, but I think maybe guys like Worthy and McHale were just a tad better, plus DJ was awesome and the Lakers were sooo deep
I woulda brought up Ho Grant and Oakley-Grant was a nice low-post player-instead of Big Bill & Paxson
@Flipper79able OH and Boston never faced the Bulls in the playoffs with Cartwright [he got there in 88-89] Celtics beat MJ in his first 2 years, 85-86, 86-87] Dave Corzine was their center, I believe
On the team player thing...I think once he got a better team around him he trusted them more, and I think that's why he utilized his teammates more. I'm sure the pistons weren't the first to adopt the 'stop Jordan and make his team beat you' thing-MJ was dominant for years before that
@PorkFrog Like I have said before. Bird took the Celtics from the second worst team in the NBA to the Eastern Conference Finals in his Rookie year. Bird was the only new addition to the team. If Jordan was so great....why didn't he do that? Face it, Jordan was an explosive player in the 80s but he was not in the same league as Bird and Magic. Jordan still had a lot to learn....just like you.
@Flipper79able It's a team game, to say better team improvement equals better player is not logically sound, EVEN if Bird is the only new player
Why?
There is no way to know how many new factors came into play besides Birds arrival-maybe one of the players home life improved, maybe a nagging injury got better for another player etc , On the Bulls, what if the other new guys stunk, what if one just lost it etc etc. Too many variables
@PorkFrog Your REALLY reaching on this one. Sure there maybe other small factors but come on. His stats prove how well he did for the team, he won Rookie of the year for christ's sake and was 3rd in MVP voting. How can you deny how much he did for the team? I have to say your argument is very very weak. I shouldn't have even wrote back to you.
Look at each's rookie roster-Bird had HOFers and borderline HOFers-Pistol Pete, Tiny, Carr, Cornbread etc, Jordin had Orlando Woolridge and the great Dave Corzine
weak? there is no argument that Bird tops Jordan that isn't weak
@Flipper79able I just think you don't understand the point-it's a team game-that means everyone on the the team's performance effects everyone else, which means if you say Bird's performance effected the other guy's, I can say the other guys effected Bird, using the exact same logic you use
Don't bother to answer me, what do I care either way
I'm not the one that can't accept the reality that Jordan was better than Bird
@PorkFrog Yes, BUT THINK. That maybe the case..... I get that, but Larry was the only addition to his team during his Rookie year. What other real factors are there? Like I said.....your really reaching. Jordan eventually became as good as Bird but he had to learn a lot of things that Larry all ready knew when he first came in the league. It actually took the Pistons and their "Jordan's rules" to teach Jordan it's a team game and you need to get your team mates involved to win championships.
@Flipper79 If Jordan had to learn its a team game, how do you explain his higher assist totals in the 80's? FOUR of his FIVE highest APG totals were in the 80's
@PorkFrog Maybe he wasn't passing to the right people at the right time? Look... this has been documented by NBA analysts and Jordan alike. He said the Pistons with their Jordan's rules taught him that he can't just rely on himself and that he has to think team first, team last. Go ahead and disagree..... this is documented stuff.
@PorkFrog I'll give you a better look. Jordan's highest assist record was in the 88-89 season. I believe that is what you are talking about. Phil Jackson told Michael he needs to change his games because he kept getting double and triple teamed with the Pistons Jordan's rules. That's why his assist record went up JUST LIKE I HAD SAID. Then Jordan figured out it's not just assists it's doing what the team needs at any given time. Jordan's team needed to be on the same page. Bird always knew this.
@PorkFrog Larry was the team leader in Points, Rebounds and Steals. Larry was the second leader in assists behind Tiny. My point being he did everything. M.L. and Pistol didn't contribute much during Larry's rookie year. Are you going to tell me the reason the Celtics went from the second worst team in the league to the Eastern conference finals because of Pistol and M.L. Carr? Give me a break. Stop wasting my time.
Jordan just came in 4 yrs after bird..not 8 or 10...and he won 1 mvp in the 80s...(1987-1988) if I recall correctly only his 3rd year in the league...with Magic Bird and Isaiah well in the league.
agreed...MJ scored with whom ever...though..so it really doesn't matter..Bird was just as competitive as MJ...MJ just was a fierce competitor who didn't care if you were bird magic or Isaiah..no respect on the court from MJ.
Birds movement without the ball is something that is just like poetry. He was the best ever without the ball and catch and shoot, good night. That said, Jordan greatest ever.
@Bigturns33 HOLDS NCAA RECORD AVERAGE PPG...AT 44.6 I BELIEVE...WITH NO 3 POINT LINE..SHOULD BE 56 PPG IF 3 POINT LINE WERE IN PLACE..THE BEST EVER....PISTOL PETE MARAVICH...TYPE IN THIS HERE ON YOU TUBE: PETE MARAVICH 68 point game ...YOU WILL BE A BELIEVER..BIRD NEVER PLAYED LIKE THAT..WHAT AN AWESOME VIDEO TO WATCH..LOOK UP ALL THE OTHER PISTOL VIDEOS POSTED ON YOUTUBE..YOU WILL BE AMAZED..SHOWTIME INVENTED BY THIS MAN!
bird can slam the ball and he does it a lot of times during his career. Both the 3 pointer is the deadliest offensive in basketball. A dunk scores you two points while 3 pointer gives you 3 points. And it is much harder to make a 3 than dunk a ball. Sheez.
MJ - greatest player ever! This was back when pro basketball players were so fundamentally sound. The celtics were like a bball clinic. One thing people forget was how fundmentally sound MJ was. I wish the younger players saw that instead of obsessing over his extra-ordinary physical gifts. Strangely had the effect of reducing the fundamentals of the NBA, while MJ had awesome fundaments to go with his other-worldly talents.
I could not say it best. The basic head fakes, defensive reads...and on the court looks to see the gaps in the defenses...were immaculate on MJ. The Celtics as a team were unreal...the ball didn't even touch the floor...but let's also understand that look who their coach was...lol. The guy leaked fundamentals.
Good game! I'd still argue the '86 Celtics were better than Jordan's 70-win team.
MJ w/ a great team was not better than Bird with a great team due to their style of play. Note the easy looks Bird got. Defenders backed off him b/c his assists made the whole team look bad. You named your poison: easy baskets underneath for #00 or #32 or Bird shooting 3s.
MJ's game was the ferocious drive & the hang-time jumpers. Difficult to stop, but unlike Bird, he had no serious rivals.
66trooper-Are U serious? Why would U say that MJ had no serious rivals?U must be joking. The Dream,Ewing, Round mound,Magic,Bird, Thomas, Reggie, Human highlight,Dumars,Hardaway, Malone,Stockton, Shaq, and many more, but I am tired
Disagree....Utah was not a joke in the 90s neither was a 93 Phoenix team. In fact...80s teams were less athletic...just tougher on fundamentals...and more physical than today's teams...so were the 90s teams more physical. But to say that the 86 Celtics were better than the 96 Bulls...is beyond me. No way. Numbers don't lie. Not one team to this day has broken the 70 win bulls team record...that means is not an easy task to do. You can say what you want 70 is 70 however you slice it.
Here is a stat for you: the 1996 Sonics that the Bulls beat in the Finals won 64 games. The most wins any of Magic's Lakers teams won was 65. The most wins any of Bird's Celtics won was 67. Do you really think the 96 Sonics were anywhere as good as Magic's Lakers or Bird's Celtics?
So rebounding, scoring, passing, intangibles, etc, go to the Lakers & Celtics? Remember the Sonics won 2 out of 6 in the Finals. If the Celtics & Lakers are as good defensively as the Sonics, and better in the other areas, it is safe to say the Lakers & Celtics would have mopped the floor with the Bulls.
Larry was the man, but this was Jordan as a rookie and he is out of this world. Plays like a 10 year vet. Tough as nails. Jordan made this Bulls team respsectable against a Celtics team that made it to the finals between '84-'87 and won it twice. Love "The Bird", but credit goes to Jordan, on a sub-mediocre Bulls team, pushing a Celtics team full of H.O.Fers and argubly one of the best Teams ever to within 10.
Mike your about as retarded as shaq popcorn. Do you really know what your talking about. That bs your talking about Jordan getting away with all those fouls and shit. Have you seen the games where Jordan was against Patrick E. or how about Domingue. The NBA back in the day was physical more so than the late 90s and guess what Michael still ran the game. You really do sound like a Jack ass
MJ did get away with shoving off constantly, but he still is the best we've seen.
However, the 86 Celtics were better than any team MJ ever had, as well as all the rest of the teams that we've seen in the last 15yrs or so...
Also, Id rather have Bird to build a TEAM around than anyone playing today, and one could make a case for selecting him as a fanchise player ahead of MJ..
MJ and Larry are 2 of the 3-5 best players ever. Kobe cant sniff either guys jock.
MJ said Bird is the smartest and dirtiest player in a interview back then (did alot of small dirty things to make up for his lack of physical ability-ie pulling shorts). But emphasized Smarts, and the dirty part is a part of the game really.
As of starting a team, Bird is the Man for the near-mid term. But the longevity of a core goes to MJ as he is a physical freak.
Also, my comments on zone weren't a criticism of this era. I was just saying that the teams with the best defenses have players that can shut people down and teams like my Nuggets and others in the low defensive rankings, use heavy zones as a last line of defense. Though it's a nice alternative to doing nothing, if they really want to go somewhere, the're going to have to shut people down.
The weaknesses of zones are extensive and well documented and exploited, but they are a good last line of defense for a team in the lower defensive ranks.
gasol has 36 points 15 rebounds shoots 70 percent lakers win by 14....get the fuck out of here motherfucker learn math. odom has 17 points shoots 57 percent...lakers win by 14 motherfucker you lose. if this was against any legitimate team lakers lose motherfucker end of story. kobe took 26 shots...only made nine of them...fuckin pathetic. answer back 34percent bitch lmao that fuckin sidekick bitch
Speaking of inept defense...my Nuggets...in the first quarter, Kobe just came within two points of Elgin Baylor's record (22 points) against the Nugget's zone.
... because John Starks did a brilliant job on MJ (besides game four where Mike scorched him for 54 points, ouch!) , Charles' game-winner over the Admiral, plus his two 40-20 games (in games 5 and 7) against Shawn Kemp and Seattle, Alonzo Mourning's game-winning jump shot that eliminated the Celtics ... so there were some great moments that occurred during the '90's, trust me. I also believe that a certain high school player from Lower Merion made his debut in the '90's, know who that is Mike?
1992-93 was an exciting year too Mike, you had Shaq and Zo entering into the league, the playoffs were very exciting, except for Game 7 of the Houston-Seattle series where the officials basically made sure that Hakeem and the Rockets didn't play Charles and the Suns in the Western Conference Final (write-up Houston vs. Seattle Game 7 to see what I'm talking about) , an exciting NBA Final, with game 5 being the masterpiece, Scottie Pippen saving the Bulls in their 6 game war with the Knicks ...
I'm not against zone because it works in my team's favor because someone like Chris Paul can pick it apart. I'm not going to get into a ridiculous era vs. era debate. I'm well aware of and respect both eras. All I'm saying is that teams without shutdown defenders like Kobe is (since you're a Kobe fan), rely on zone more than teams that do. That's all I'm saying.
lmfao at this fuckin drag queen mike'snumberonecocksucker. now he wants picturea of me to jack off to...get lost bitch. then he asks me what era nba player am i built like roflmao at this fuckin geek. go get a girlfriend litle man...oh wait you already have one its your mother you fuckin weirdo. i spit on people like you
"now zones and blanket cov on kobe with doubles before catching the ball...no dropping into the post as easily as mj to get the ball..." - mikenotnumber1
Actually, zone makes it even easier for Kobe to score. Zone is just the last resort of teams that are inept at man on man defense. The only reason the leagure reinstated zone was because they felt bad for all that they took away from defense in the rule changes.

Man the East was stacked back in the days. The Hawks,Pistons,Celtics,76ers,Knicks and plenty of physical basketball. When players started coming out of high school on a regular basis it really hurt the game all of these guys were men not boys.I enjoy the players of today but it seems so telegraphed now.
gasol has 36 points 15 rebounds shoots 60 percent lakers win by 14....get the fuck out of here motherfucker learn math. odom has 17 points shoots 57 percent...lakers win by 14 motherfucker you lose. if this was against any legitimate team lakers lose motherfucker end of story. kobe took 26 shots...only made nine of them...fuckin pathetic. answer back 34percent bitch lmao that fuckin sidekick bitch
gervin equals garbage....jordan didn't even play with him you cunt fart motherfucker... but for 18 games only. since jordan was out with a broken foot stupid motherfucker. gervin didn't nothing in the playoffs against boston...so much for that bullshit.

Jordan is the most creative player ive ever seen.He had the strongest legs in the game and having hands the size of a center didnt hurt either. The difference between Jordan and rest of the NBA now and then is his physical and mental combination.People may think other players are better because they can shoot better threes or SEEM flashier,But they are not he is the best to ever lace them up.Remember he came from a team oriented college UNC so he's a better team player then people think.GOAT!
now get the fuck out madman...you're starting to foam at the mouth from that rabies and syphilis infection you caught from your flea bitten skank of a mother mike'snumberonecocksucker.
gervin equals garbage....jordan didn't even play with him you cunt fart motherfucker... but for 18 games only. since jordan was out with a broken foot stupid motherfucker. gervin didn't nothing in the playoffs against boston...so much for that bullshit.
kobe has made 7456 field goals during his career..in case you're to fuckin stupid to do the math bitch...jordan has made 4837 more shots than kobe motherfucker lmao. kobe is way fuckin behind jordan...thousands of shots behind. now get lost cocksucker you don't know who you're fuckin with
you want to know how much of a difference there is between kobe's and jordan's field goal little bitch motherfucker. go look at career makes from the field bitch...lets look together. jordan has made 12293 field goals during his career
Anyone with objectivity and credibility will realize that should Kobe get MVP for this season, that will even further show the difference between he and MJ. MJ needed only 3full seasons to get NBA MVP, Kobe needed over a decade.MJ never failed to make the playoffs as a Bull. Not the case with Kobe. How long did it take Kobe to lead NBA in scoring? How long did last last for? MJ only won 10 of those, BTW, 6times while also winning the championship. Kobe plays in a more watered down league/era.
you are out of your mind if you think anyone ever carried Shaq in LA or Orl...Kobe is a ball hog wannabe MJ, and he knew that he was always gonna be 2nd fiddle to Shaq, and since he cares more about proving hes better than MJ was than he does about winning, even tho he isnt better than MJ anyways, he knew he had to get rid of Shaq so he could try to do what MJ did.
Shaq won a championship without Kobe, and he also got to the finals in Orl. Shaq got the LA Finals MVPs.
Shaq was the dominating force that carried that Lakers 3peat. Yes, Kobe is a guard, and generally guards are more skilled than centers; dribbling, outside shooting, defensive footwork, speed, etc, but that doesnt alter the fact that Shaq was the guy getting 40pts&20rbs while hitting well more than half his FGs during those postseason runs. MJ in his prime also hit a very high FG%. Kobe doesnt. Kobes not as fast as MJ was, as patient, smart, fundamentally sound, or under control.
And i just love the denial.U scared mikey? U wont allow private message? Yeah u scared of facing the truth. What do u have to lose?Just let me send that article to educate u.
Make no mistake this was the last time i replyed to ur posts,so feel free to waste ur time expecting for a comeback, u've exposed urself has a low IQ idiot who cant even screen what posts say,and most of all a guy that can only resort to insults when his replies are meaningless.
Oh im glad this is the last time we chat, im not gonna waste my time with a guy that cant even simply comprehend a post..No MJ didnt play in the 70's and thats why i told u not to bring any quotes from that period, cause quotes of that period will say either Chamberlain, Russell, Robertson, Magic or Bird are the greatest, since MJ wasnt even know at the time. What im sayin is if u wanna come up with quotes make it from 99 on. I dare u to find quotes of those guys sayin the contrary..
Another example of why im not replying anymore after these last. Not even confronted with ur own quote will u admit u made a mistake. Not very smart from u..U said 2nd just admit it jeez. And then the classic "jealous little bitch" loll i swear i cant understand what u mean with that..
AHAHAH "we all know thwe Jazz are the real winners of the 98 finals" ohh too good thx for the laugh, im glad im not ever gonna reply to this kind of dellusional comments.
Jealous again?? Jealous of what? Jeez this guy talks like a 5 year old.. Keep on with the name calling dude this is the last time im replying to u anyway, ur just a waste of time, u resort to insults t compensate for a weak twisted comeback.
I really dont know what ur on.. U cant just say MJ had Gervin in '86 cause he lost all but 18 games that season!! Do u understand this?? Please its gettin ridiculous..How was MJ gonna do anything for the season when he missed it in almost its entirety? On top of that Gervin was 33!! How much help could he bring? Then in the playoffs when MJ needed he couldnt play with him for more than 11 minutes?? Sorry but its pathetic to say MJ has Gervin when those were the conditions..
regarding the Gervin on MJs team thing, Gervin was not only old and physically past his prime by the time he got there, he was totally hooked on and regularly using cocaine.
MJ has made references in his books to having teammates early in his pro-career who he knew were using coke..Gervin has a documented coke addiction.
If i wanted to pass for somebody else, i wouldnt apologize for the username switch and i sure wouldnt reply like im rrTale. So i've admitted the switch 3 days ago, stop acting like a baby.
This is the last time im gonna reply to u, u keep twisting arguments its pathetic. I brought Reggie's pushoff cause MJ wasnt the only one getting away with pushoffs GOT IT? Jesus bring some of that high IQ over here please..Im tired of explaining over and over each of my posts, r u really that limited?
No way the '91 Finals games were close. Only game 1. The rest were won by at least 7 points! How is that close?
bulls 87 92 vs boston celtics jordan 40 point average against the celtics owned w 107 102 w 113 103 w 110 104 w 105 100 w 110 104 w 118 114 w 111 105 w 120 100 w 129 99 w 103 93 w 101 89 w 115 108

Im just gonna reiterate my platform. MJ is the best individual player Ive ever seen, greater than all those playing today. However, the best teams EVER preceded those Bulls championships; Birds 1986 Celtics, Magic&Kareems best Lakers units, 1983 76ers, &even89Pistons were all better than the 90s Bulls as well as every team this current joke of a league has to offer.
Kobe aint even close. MJ got his 1st MVPin 1988,his 3rd full yr. Kobes been here for over 10yrs, no MVPs. Shaq carried Kobe.
I noticed the increasing of "idiot", "fuck nuts" comments from ur part. Gettin mad hum Mikey? Am i gettin into ur head? Cant u keep it clean like i do? Try to do that next time. Dont just insult a guy to compensate a weak comeback.
The Celtics simply play their best in connecticut

Honestly, I think was it's to early in the NBA to say that Michael Jordan was the beat player of all time. I think you can say he was best at his position, but not the greatest. Jordan wasn't a small forward, power forward, of center, and he does not have the greatest point, assist, rebounding, or blocking record. I think it's wrong to make Jordan the best and exclude other players of that time of earlier.
TheMkfan123 10 months ago
@Flipper79able I hope you stop saying Bird was the only new addition to the team. Interesting that you just gloss over that easily researched, glaring error.
How the heck do you call 22 points a game not 'much'? Why don't you just give Bird credit for those guys contribution and bump his PPG to 43? That's right, 22 a game is MORE than Birds 21.3PPG...

Young MJ had to work so much harder early on before he became super efficient
westy44cal 2 years ago
Plus you have to remember the bulls were pretty old by 96 compared to a younger 86 boston team. Now you take a prime Rodman/Pippen/Harper/Jordan they would destroy the celtics despite the frontcourt. Your talking about the two greatest perimeter defenders in the game Jordan/Pippen.
GoingOn9Lives 2 years ago
yeah it is true.

1pacfan 3 years ago
Bird is the deadliest shooter this game has ever known u dipshit. If Jordan came out the same time as Bird and Magic Jordan wouldnt have all those championships and MVP's trust that. The 80's teams were way better than the watered down 90's teams jordan was beating
1pacfan 3 years ago
Depends. If MJ had the type of supporting cast that Bird and Magic had, he'd probably be in the running for MVP too. I ain't dissing Bird or Magic cuz they're definitely some of the greatest, but to be fair, they had great supporting casts in the 80s.
uberathlete 2 years ago 2
@uberathlete I have heard so many people say Jordan would have been better if he had the supporting cast Bird and Magic had. That is fairytale too many people tell. Jordan had Pippin, Cartright, Paxson, most of the cast from his first Championship in the late eighties when Magic and especially Bird were beating him. The only thing that changed was Jordan's playing style. With the Piston's "Jordan's Rules" which meant double and triple teaming him he had to learn to pass and be a team player.
Flipper79able 1 year ago
@Flipper79able Pippen Cartwright and Paxon? Pippen was pretty awesome, but I hope you aren't comparing Cartwright to Parrish, let alone Kareem. And Paxson? Nice little player, but I think maybe guys like Worthy and McHale were just a tad better, plus DJ was awesome and the Lakers were sooo deep
I woulda brought up Ho Grant and Oakley-Grant was a nice low-post player-instead of Big Bill & Paxson
PorkFrog 1 year ago

@Flipper79able didn't we cover this? it's a team sport...could it be that Bird had a better team? look at each teams roster their rookie years roster:
Bird had Tiny, Cowens, Carr, Maravich, Cornbread
MJ had Caldwell Jones, Dave Corzine, Orlando Woolridge, Quentin Daily
which four guys are better?
Pistol Pete-HOF for sure, Tiny and Cowens, maybe, I know Cowens had already won a title
Every one says Jordan was the best-easy to back with stats
one of those rare times everyone is right

Besides if Bird and Magic themselves say MJ was the best, that's a pretty good endorsement
also, on the idea MJ was selfish in the 80's and developed into a team player...
4 out of 5 of MJ's highest per game assist totals were in the 80's
everyone, even Bird and Magic, said Jordan was the best--this is one of those times everyone is right
PorkFrog 1 year ago
@Flipper79able It's a team game, to say better team improvement equals better player is not logically sound, EVEN if Bird is the only new player
Why?
There is no way to know how many new factors came into play besides Birds arrival-maybe one of the players home life improved, maybe a nagging injury got better for another player etc , On the Bulls, what if the other new guys stunk, what if one just lost it etc etc. Too many variables
[continued]
PorkFrog 1 year ago
@PorkFrog Your REALLY reaching on this one. Sure there maybe other small factors but come on. His stats prove how well he did for the team, he won Rookie of the year for christ's sake and was 3rd in MVP voting. How can you deny how much he did for the team? I have to say your argument is very very weak. I shouldn't have even wrote back to you.
Flipper79able 1 year ago

Look at each's rookie roster-Bird had HOFers and borderline HOFers-Pistol Pete, Tiny, Carr, Cornbread etc, Jordin had Orlando Woolridge and the great Dave Corzine
weak? there is no argument that Bird tops Jordan that isn't weak
PorkFrog 1 year ago
@Flipper79able I just think you don't understand the point-it's a team game-that means everyone on the the team's performance effects everyone else, which means if you say Bird's performance effected the other guy's, I can say the other guys effected Bird, using the exact same logic you use
Don't bother to answer me, what do I care either way
I'm not the one that can't accept the reality that Jordan was better than Bird
[cont]
\
PorkFrog 1 year ago
@PorkFrog Yes, BUT THINK. That maybe the case..... I get that, but Larry was the only addition to his team during his Rookie year. What other real factors are there? Like I said.....your really reaching. Jordan eventually became as good as Bird but he had to learn a lot of things that Larry all ready knew when he first came in the league. It actually took the Pistons and their "Jordan's rules" to teach Jordan it's a team game and you need to get your team mates involved to win championships.
Flipper79able 1 year ago
@Flipper79 If Jordan had to learn its a team game, how do you explain his higher assist totals in the 80's? FOUR of his FIVE highest APG totals were in the 80's
PorkFrog 1 year ago
@PorkFrog Maybe he wasn't passing to the right people at the right time? Look... this has been documented by NBA analysts and Jordan alike. He said the Pistons with their Jordan's rules taught him that he can't just rely on himself and that he has to think team first, team last. Go ahead and disagree..... this is documented stuff.
Flipper79able 1 year ago
@PorkFrog I'll give you a better look. Jordan's highest assist record was in the 88-89 season. I believe that is what you are talking about. Phil Jackson told Michael he needs to change his games because he kept getting double and triple teamed with the Pistons Jordan's rules. That's why his assist record went up JUST LIKE I HAD SAID. Then Jordan figured out it's not just assists it's doing what the team needs at any given time. Jordan's team needed to be on the same page. Bird always knew this.
Flipper79able 1 year ago
@Flipper79able ''Larry was the only addition to his team during his Rookie year.'' wrong ML Carr AND Pistol Pete are new to the 1979-80 Celtics
Pistol Pete is a HOFer and they both averaged 11 points a game
so you should probably stop saying 'Bird was the only addition to his rookie team'

@PorkFrog Larry was the team leader in Points, Rebounds and Steals. Larry was the second leader in assists behind Tiny. My point being he did everything. MJ - greatest player ever! This was back when pro basketball players were so fundamentally sound. The celtics were like a bball clinic. One thing people forget was how fundmentally sound MJ was. I wish the younger players saw that instead of obsessing over his extra-ordinary physical gifts. Strangely had the effect of reducing the fundamentals of the NBA, while MJ had awesome fundaments to go with his other-worldly talents.
mmcneil777 3 years ago 4
I could not say it best. The basic head fakes, defensive reads...and on the court looks to see the gaps in the defenses...were immaculate on MJ. The Celtics as a team were unreal...the ball didn't even touch the floor...but let's also understand that look who their coach was...lol. The guy leaked fundamentals.
luckylefty232323 2 years ago

123bigr 3 years ago
Disagree....Utah was not a joke in the 90s neither was a 93 Phoenix team. In fact...80s teams were less athletic...just tougher on fundamentals...and more physical than today's teams...so were the 90s teams more physical. But to say that the 86 Celtics were better than the 96 Bulls...is beyond me. No way. Numbers don't lie. Not one team to this day has broken the 70 win bulls team record...that means is not an easy task to do. You can say what you want 70 is 70 however you slice it.
luckylefty232323 2 years ago
Here is a stat for you: the 1996 Sonics that the Bulls beat in the Finals won 64 games. The most wins any of Magic's Lakers teams won was 65. The most wins any of Bird's Celtics won was 67. Do you really think the 96 Sonics were anywhere as good as Magic's Lakers or Bird's Celtics?
guitarjosh 2 years ago
defensively yes! that is what got the sonics to the finals that year.
03svt04 2 years ago
So rebounding, scoring, passing, intangibles, etc, go to the Lakers & Celtics? Remember the Sonics won 2 out of 6 in the Finals. If the Celtics & Lakers are as good defensively as the Sonics, and better in the other areas, it is safe to say the Lakers & Celtics would have mopped the floor with the Bulls.
guitarjosh 2 years ago
Larry was the man, but this was Jordan as a rookie and he is out of this world. Plays like a 10 year vet. Tough as nails. Jordan made this Bulls team respsectable against a Celtics team that made it to the finals between '84-'87 and won it twice. Love "The Bird", but credit goes to Jordan, on a sub-mediocre Bulls team, pushing a Celtics team full of H.O.Fers and argubly one of the best Teams ever to within 10.

Kobe cant sniff either guys jock.
dp233332 3 years ago

I'm not going to get into a ridiculous era vs. era debate.

Shaq got the LA Finals MVPs.
dp233332 3 years ago

Have a nice life and go ahead lash out lol

Oh im glad this is the last time we chat, im not gonna waste my time with a guy that cant even simply comprehend a post..No MJ didnt play in the 70's and thats why i told u not to bring any quotes from that period, cause quotes of that period will say either Chamberlain, Russell, Robertson, Magic or Bird are the greatest, since MJ wasnt even know at the time. What im sayin is if u wanna come up with quotes make it from 99 on. I dare u to find quotes of those guys sayin the contrary..
rrTale 3 years ago
Lol HOF Jordan faced in the Celtics? Bird, McHale, Parish, Walton, Johnson, ur right those guys worth shit huh?
rrTale 3 years ago
Another example of why im not replying anymore after these last. Not even confronted with ur own quote will u admit u made a mistake. Not very smart from u..U said 2nd just admit it jeez. And then the classic "jealous little bitch" loll i swear i cant understand what u mean with that..
rrTale 3 years ago
AHAHAH "we all know thwe Jazz are the real winners of the 98 finals" ohh too good thx for the laugh, im glad im not ever gonna reply to this kind of dellusional comments.

Dave Cowens and Tiny. Nuff said. MJ had a HOF? Who?? Not Gervin again, man are u really that dumb.
rrTale 3 years ago
Lol here's the reason im not replying anymore.. He waste an entire post with absolute garbage, stop insulting ppl
rrTale 3 years ago
Jealous again?? Jealous of what? Jeez this guy talks like a 5 year old.. Keep on with the name calling dude this is the last time im replying to u anyway, ur just a waste of time, u resort to insults t compensate for a weak twisted comeback.
rrTale 3 years ago
I really dont know what ur on.. U cant just say MJ had Gervin in '86 cause he lost all but 18 games that season!! Do u understand this?? Please its gettin ridiculous..How was MJ gonna do anything for the season when he missed it in almost its entirety? On top of that Gervin was 33!! How much help could he bring? Then in the playoffs when MJ needed he couldnt play with him for more than 11 minutes?? Sorry but its pathetic to say MJ has Gervin when those were the conditions..
rrTale 3 years ago
regarding the Gervin on MJs team thing, Gervin was not only old and physically past his prime by the time he got there, he was totally hooked on and regularly using cocaine.
