@vaironxxrd My Dad got me started, but I taught most of it myself just from reading stuff online. I've been doing it for a while now though :). My Computer Science classes were helpful I'm sure, but I still think most of my practical skills came from books and the net.
Yeah, you'll probably have gun-arms that you shoot out of. I'll have a version on XBox. I can have a singleplayer only version on Indie games, maybe I can manage to get a full version on Live Arcade, who knows.
I'd probably have heard of it if game maker used XNA, and I havn't, so I'd guess not. This is written using C#, which looks a little like C++, but is way easier and better. It still takes a lot more time than game maker though.
Go to the "XNA Creators Club" website. It has all the XNA stuff you need as a free download. (You need a subscription to upload to the 360 though.) Give it a try, but remember to start small and take baby-steps!
The quickest way to get answers about this kind of stuff is to search the net. Lots of people are making tutorials on XNA these days, the the forums on the creators club site can be helpful. You might want to start with xnadevelopment[dot]com, that looked pretty good.
It is simple as far as programming a game goes but still very difficult, don't expect to be making anything close to this game any time soon, it takes alot of study and work, trustme :(
I started it about the beginning of '08. Yeah, the engine is from scratch. Glad you like it! Much more is comming, I should really make another video soon.
I'm only using DirectX through the XNA framework, no straight DX. Don't worry about asking questions, happy to help people getting into XNA, as long as you aren't making a massage app. :p
Self rolled. It isn't too bad once I make use of special restrictions I know exist in this game (I don't have to make a full featured physics engine.) I like it because I can easily cheat the physics in any way I want to improve the play.
Why does it need a full team? Or in otherwords, why can't I be one? :) It's a serious question though, Braid was two people, and I think World of Goo was also.
Teams aren't perfect either. Unless there is money behind them they usually have a habit of falling apart. I have had my fare share of burnouts, but I'm past that point with this project now.
You've come so far since the first video, it's nice to see somebody who looks like they're going to finish what they started. Great concept, Great Game!
wow dude looks amazing, wasnt to fond of the beginning environment (headache) but every was so great. I really love these mechanics, grappling hooks that work where you need!!! youve got an amazing foundation, just add some personality and vitality to the environments objects etc and i would be breathless. Amazing job man
Thanks for giving it a try! I see you are interested in giving it a try again once its grapics/sound/story are further along. I'll probably make a new video when there is more to see, so if you subscribe that would be a good way to know when to try again. Thanks again for the feedback!
I tried it, and I liked it a lot!!! altho it is kind of annoying to find myself stuck at the bottom of a "cave" for the 10th time without having picked up one treasure from the start...
That getting stuck in pits thing is something I'm working on. Something I haven't documented yet is that you can quick save and quick load using F5 and F9. Also you can toggle map mode with 'M'. In map mode there are cones placed where it auto-saved you, so you can fly on top of a cone and click to load at that place. The map needs a lot of work still but it is usable. I'm glad you like it! :)
Did you learn this in school.. or just tuts?

Wow.. btw how are u using so many cubes? Mesh instancing?
MakubexIsVik 9 months ago
@MakubexIsVik I tried that, but I ended up just making big meshes. Basically each block of the same texture is a part of the same mesh.

what did you use for collision? bounding boxes???

The PC version has multiplayer, and if there is ever an XBLA version, then it would have multiplayer.

Wow. this is amazing, I love it.
How long did It take you to code it? And are you using your own engine.. or?

Nice, is it just XNA or DirectX too? or? :P
Sorry for asking all the question, i've recently just got into serious game programming, and i'm using Microsofts XNA.
Keep it up :).

I have to say, the concept is badass. If this was actually worked on by a full development team, this game would probably do surprisingly well.

Ubrasaur 2 years ago
Because you will eventually burnout by yourself. It is possible, of course, but the chances of you getting tired of it eventually are very high.

Ubrasaur 2 years ago
Of course, but the difference is, the team delegates and finishes tasks much faster than a single developer (if the team works properly, of course).
But I'm not here to discourage you, good job, keep doing what you like. :)
