Girl Talk on the Harlow Album is only a instrumental. I adore this rendition with the lyrics. I will cut and paste this into my "Harlow" album. It is fantastic!
@RiverrattProductions Thanks for that update..didn't know it was only an instrumental on the album (I haven't seen the film since it first came out......long time..lol). Just went to amazon and listened to a snippet from the soundtrack....surprised to see it made it to cd.
Joanie appeared several times on "HULLABALOO" as a musical guest, but wasn't a "regular", 'GaryW'. She often appeared on variety shows during the '60s, but never headlined one of her own. Occasionally, she makes a public appearance or singing engagement these days....
....when comic lyrical cuteness supportive of strong complimentary oppositarianism/ sexual magnetism was not only welcomed but sought after thoughout the culture by both male and female alike. The then ,more mature audience and more stable culture, contrary to popular belief today, was less abusive of that balance and would never have guessed in their wildest nightmares what was to become of Us/Them as we are today.

Hey Wally,Nick Arons here, Thank You SO Much for putting this classic of America's Golden Age. Not campy AT ALL, in fact a great example of romantic jazz almost identical to the great Count Basie Hit " Li'l Darlin" in genre and composition. Younger folks will find it almost incomprehensible that their was a time before population control programming (,ie,feminism, gender neutering, falsification of history shows like "Mad Men" and "Cold Case" etc etc- ) when comic.....continued as PART 2
Neal Hefti - master of melody - sadly so many of his evocative movie scores still not out on CD: THE ODD COUPLE BAREFOOT IN THE PARK BOEING BOEING P.J. SYNANON but be sure to get your hands on the ones that are out there: HOW TO MURDER YOUR WIFE LORD LOVE A DUCK HARLOW DUEL AT DIABLO SEX AND THE SINGLE GIRL OH DAD, POOR DAD, MAMA'S HUNG YOU IN THE CLOSET AND I'M FEELING SO SAD!
@russhurley I would call it light jazz. Neal Heft, who composed it for the movie --Harlowe --had a great jazz background but like Mancini and other talented, versatile composers found a great market for their talents in film.
@russhurley Yes it's swing jazz. But hearing th Julie London version you could mistake it for a lullaby for big males. Julie London only manages to get my feet to sleep.
She was known primarily for her classic "Johnny Get Angry" and also for doing the singing jingle for Pepsi around the same period, but she proved she could do really good albums also.
Wally do you know anything about Julie London? I'm a huge fan of her and Bobby. Are there any books on their life together? What a great time the 60's were!
The sound of the 60's. Style & Class. Thanx Wally1435 for posting this great classic.Jonnie Sommers is such a great vocalist. This is truely her signiture song.
Amen, ar4998ro! I have the "Movie Song Album." Tony Bennett has said that this is his favorite album -- an *exceptional* collection... "Girl Talk" is from a nightclub scene in the 1965 film, "Harlow."

She was on the old NBC-TV show Hullabaloo. The last time I heard of her, she was living back in Buffalo, NY.

A jazz waltz, perhaps?
allanscudder 1 year ago
@allanscudder Nah, this is in a simple duple meter. Jazz Waltz is usually in come sort of Compound meter.
ElWongus 1 year ago
@ElWongus it's in 4/4... but played with a lilt... strictly speaking its 12/8 with dotted triplets though

is this swing jazz?
russhurley 2 years ago
I'm not really sure how this would be classified; I consider the LP to be just smooth pop vocals.
wally1435 2 years ago
It surely is jazz oriented...in the way that Sinatra was.
