I didn't realize they were so curious-cute upsetting the knitting on himself. Enjoyable, but please, no more with the mop. He was angry and making that clacking noise because he was irritated.

Major props to Loveowls for posting this video and even bigger props for the disclaimer at the beginning of it. Also look at his little horn tufts! D'awww
What a beautiful chick! I can tell Alfred likes you alot considering how he gently nibbles you with his beak. Just looking at his beak and talons tells me that even though he's still a baby, he can do lots of damage and not just to a mop!
i seen where some birds click their beaks when in "killer mode",or to put it lighter, spooked.is that him clicking at the mop?sounds loud, but that could be closed space, mic settings,such....
The owl feels great, and lady pays a lot of attention. There is good connection, and pure unconditional love. I find nothing wrong with it. Surely a research about these birds must be done to make it easy for the bird and the lady.
my Brothers first Bird was a Great Horned Owl, I remember watching that Owl who was not yet fully mature eat a small chicken whole {a pullet} that Owl started with the head and just started crushing and swallowing, took about two hours till just the little chicken feet were sticking from its beak ,Owl just sat for another hour pluss till those also disappeared down its crop.Looked like he had a lollipop sticking from its beak
What a great video...I enjoyed it so much. I hope you continue to rescue owls and send them to the protected sanctuary! It would be so hard to say good bye. I have parrots and the behaviour is so similar....they rule the house and couldnt imagine home without them.
Malencool, it matters what country you live in. If you live in North America you can't never own one as a pet, but you can own one (just not as a pet). The three possible choices of getting one are: You work at wildlife rehab and you have to take one home (which I won't do if you want to own one). Or you using one for Education (which I won't do if you want one). Or you become a Falconer which you have to get a license and hunt with them (if you want one, you can keep one forever as a falconer).
Amazing Miss!! one question, Do you have your OWL trained so he can fly around the neighbourhood and return your home?? and if yes, how could I learn that or from where??
Aww, such a sweet owl! He looks very comfortable with you too! A lot argue that some animals just shouldn't be kept as pets, but I think most animals can be domesticated to a certain degree if just treated with respect and consideration of their natural needs. At least Alfred seems happy where he is! :) Hope he gets to get out and fly some once in a while though?
@butabara1234 Such a nice little hoot owl. I am so glad to see that people are treating these magnificent creatures with so much love that they have in fact become friendly with them.
@butabara1234 That is complete BS - domestication of an animal takes thousands of years - most wild animals that are brought into captivity do not get the enrichment and freedom they need to psychologically and physically be considered "healthy", and the people taking care of them also need to make more sacrifices than they would with a true domesticated species like dogs or cats. It is a lose lose situation. Leave wild animals in the wild or in the hands of a trained professional please.
Hootie was an unreleasable horned owl that lived at the Trailside Zoo in NJ until September 1976, when the zoo closed and The Raptor Trust gave her a home. We think she was at least ten years old at that time. Since then, for 23 years, Hootie has been the foster mother for all the orphaned Great Horned Owl chicks that came to TRT. ( To read the whole story search google or any search engine. It is a sweet story! )
If you want an owl, think about this: Are you willing to put up with the all-night noise? Their sharp beak and talons? What about their frequent, smelly poop? They also throw up pellets of fur and bones wherever they happen to be. As for food, you'll need lots of frozen mice, which you have to cut open to remove the stomach, intestines, and liver. If you don't, you'll find yourself peeling decomposing internal organs off the floor and walls of your home. Sounds like a great pet, doesn't it?
oh be quiet, just because it takes a lot of work to keep your pet happy and healthy doesn't mean it'd be a sucky pet!! i'd love to have an owl as a pet because they're cute, cuddly if you get them as a chick, and lovable! so don't go around blabbing off about how owls would make horrible pets!!
@SonikkuForever ... you are totally wrong. If you teach the owl to eat in the same place you don't have to peeling the internal organs around your house... adorable. an adult one kept eating my freinds baby ducks and one day he found it attacking them so he attaked back with a flimsy peice of wood siding. The wild female owl was over three feet tall and a formidable predator. dont mess around with them even though they are shy predators they will mess you up if they feel a threat

But I think owls (injured and found) should to leave free as they are able to come along in their landscape.
