@Feisty1967, it's about a priest who feels he is a descended of Don Quixote. the books about his travels throughout the spain country side with his travelling companion sancho who is technically the ex mayor (and communist) of his home town el toboso. his "retirement" comes from the fact that he was given the status of monsignor from someone at the vatican. i am not a religious man by any mean but this book is fantastic, funny, witty, intellectual REALLY well written definitly recomended read
Here here ! In the days before do-gooders, P.C bollox and upsetting anyone for fear of being sued...Get rid of this lame dumb ass Labour Government we got now. A 3yr old kid could do a better job! (personal opinion in case I get sued)
too funny! maybe it was the severe sounding tones or the way the word Thames would come out of the water. The news seemed very stark and serious back then... maybe I was just too young to understand it all.
News at 10...thats about the only thing I remembered...ha! But did anyone else find it funny how the newsman went into great detail about the social workers and exactly why they were sacked, with photos and everything. Nowadays its all about protecting people and their rights...just thought it was funny!
Monsignor Quixote was a brilliant "TV Movie" It was barely promoted by Thames - and I think it was shown once in the daytime (when I remember seeing it) The DVD only came out last year - I don't think there was ever a VHS release! It was a true gem - Yet barely gets a mention when Alec Guinness is profiled I don't think it's ever been repeated!
And The Day Today, and subsequently Brass Eye, got it right. How do you describe "Sir" Alistair Burnet? Well, as a newsman, he was a Royal sycophant who was well up The Queen's arse, and every other arse within The Royal Family. Mike S.
You might say "bland" - I'd say reasonably straightforward and balanced journalism. News now is completely beyond parody - ITV News in particular is half Day Today, half Daily Mail. The Day Today actually seems to have been taken by subsequent news broadcasters as a model rather than as a warning of what not to become.
Also the Thames ident didn't even move in this video even though it had the music on it! That's the first time I've seen that happen. I'm glad those council workers got sacked for the murder of that poor little girl. They never learn do they?
That Monsiginior Quixote, is that the same as Don Quixote? Excuse my ignorance.

Alastair Burnet looks like a dog! Did you know that David Bryan (Bon Jovi) is his son?

Watching the news clip and not much has changed really- UK social workers still make appalling blunders and kids die of abuse today.

It's funny, after watching The Day Today, how bland the news really used to be. Now it's all flashy and CGI'd.

I love that Hofmeister ad! This ad break must have been the end of 1985 if they are advertising something for 1986
