Solving Math Problems : Solving Absolute Value Equations

does the absolute value equations mean to multiply like you do with parenthesis

ex. ill just use this symbol [ ..for the brackets

4[ 2y-7 ] = -14 PLEASE HELP

x = -4 would not be an answer to the equation because a variable can't be a negative amount of numbers away from zero.
