Snakeboards have been around since 1988. I have been riding them (and still do) since 1996. The older style snakeboards, like the one in this video are really awesome for cruising. The current snakeboards (that have the wider wood bar) are much better suited for park and street riding, ramps, rail, ledges etc. Put on a set of bindings and go kill it!

It's a snakeboard and it is so awesome. Great for cruising, like in this video. Or put some bindings on and go kill it snowboard/skateboard style in the street or skatepark. I've been doing it for nearly 15 years now and I still LOVE it.

except it's not retarded. Ripstiks are gay because you can't really do anything on them and they advertise way too much about how great it is. Streetboarding (snakeboarding) is simply skateboarding and snowboarding combined into one. Streetboarding companies never advertise. Plus I have ridden both and streetboarding has a completely different motion to get moving. It has no relation to ripstiks whatsoever.
