she doesn´t died in cannes!!!!she died in Grasse-but her last husband knowed, that it was"impossible" for her to die in another city than Paris-so he brought her in an emergency car to Paris
If I were to die right now - I would like this song to be played at my death bed... Just recently I have found its real meaning - before that appreciating it above language barriers. It's a real gem - one of the few! Vive La France - if it can produce it. The refrain - just to die right away.
this is more then just words being said and instruments playing together. with her beautiful voice this art in it's must purest way and darkest moment. there is true soul put into this words.
I used to hear to La Vie en Rose and Padam Padam when I was a kid when my mom and dad plays their music and I loved it. I wasn't aware who the singer was. Until I met my girlfriend last 2009. She used to tell me stories about the great singer Edith Piaf. And she hummed La Vie en Rose then suddenly I had flashback of my past. I told her I know that song. It was a great discovery. From thereof I just love Edith Piaf and really appreciate her music. Such a great and legendary singer.
For all young men/women who commented here... thank you ... you gave me hope in new generations.. thank you for keeping the pure feelings and for letting an old man like me know that you will keep the flame of romance and love warming the world for all the time.
ome question, is this the presentation at olympia? because in the movie (la mome) they make it look like if she is dying while singing, i mean she looks very sick... but here she looks like normal...
@c3anaconda this one was recorded in Netherlands , In Nijmegen , the 14 december 1962.The whole concert was recorded by the Dutch TV. Piaf sang the last time at the Olympia , The 23 October 1962. and her last concert was in Lille , in March 63

@wikid1992 I uploaded this when I was 13 ^^ and feel exactly the same way as you :-)! Great to know that I'm not the only one who thinks that way! Merry Christmas!
@wikid1992 Me too man. I'm 17, and a bunch of people these days listen to mainstream music and jersey shore that influences our society to become ignorant and unintelligent more and more as generations pass. We are smarter in a way of technology and science, but our ethics are getting worse. I love old music, because it meant something. Now we listen to Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, and others who only talk about weed, sex, money, drinking, and that is it. 4 genres of lyrics.
@skinseb i know she did, but she did it with feeling. some of today's music is poorly written and expressed. although piaf didn't write all her lyrics, she still performed it with heart and soul.
@Etheline interesting about her hands. so many who met her commented about the beauty of her hands. But like so much in her life, that was also taken from her in the end. I've head she lamented that twist of fate, that those hands she once proudly displayed, now she tried to hide from view (especially the right). notice in later clips how she puts her right hand behind her while standing still, accepting applause, etc
@steveom59 Oh yes, I can recall many intervies where she was hiding her ill hands...it is not fair...anyway for me the hands were still beautiful, but the beauty was just hidden under the illness, but if you want you can find the real beauty, which used to be so obvious when she was younger.

you are watching the miracle of music here. both in her performance and in what performing did for her. She is one year from death, very ill, and suffering the most terrible pain from rheumatoid arthritis. it was particularly painful in her wrists and ankles. Agonzing pain to stand and walk. She described the pain as if she were on fire. Most people in her state of health would have been in a wheelchair. But she was transformed going onto the stage. The pain left until the music stopped
@steveom59 Right, anytime I watch the dancing end of La Foule here in Nimegue, I am all twisted and I suffer with her. She is EXTRAORDINARY and incredibly strong. I'm always fascniated with the circle: the performing was destroying her but yet it meant life for her!
Viva la grande chanteuse Piaf, her ballads of unrequited love touch the heart & makes you feel her pain & emotions; R.I.P. (Little Sparrow); you will live forever with your music , au revoir, a fan forever.
yes I think the same like you!I wach the movie ageen tonight for 8 time and can`t stop thinking about her and I pray for her(something I do a few times in year)
For a woman who was so ill (she was very arthritic) that she needed help just to walk to the stage, the fact that she could dance is nearly a miracle. She truly lived for her music and for the audience. Simply, the best!
The original version is an argentinian song, called "Que nadie sepa mi sufrir", from 1936. It has a Peruvian waltz tempo.
Piaff, during a tour in Latin América around 1950's, heard the song and fell in love with it, and asked someone to write a french version of the lyrics...
Kauneinta, vakuuttavinta, upeinta ikinä! Niin vähän eleitä, mutta silti niin paljon.. Mitkään sanat ei riitä, mutta pakko yrittää: kiitos, merci, thank you Edith Piaf! ♥ Greetings from Finland. :)
Please keep the comments in English so that everyone can understand what you're saying. I'm sure most of your comments are very informative and it's a shame that we can't all read them!
selfish comment, no one has to write in english because you cant understand, many times we dont understand what you people are saying but we dont complain about it, i recommend you use a translator, there are many on the web

I believe that her last stage performance was at the Lille Opera House in March 1963 (after Bobino)

For a woman who was so ill (she was very arthritic) that she needed help just to walk to the stage, the fact that she could dance is nearly a miracle. She truly lived for her music and for the audience. Simply, the best!

increiblemente MARAVILLOSA!!!
