If only it were possible to accelerate at a slow enough speed where you wouldnt spin out. too bad these people just slam on the gas and expect their car to move forward...
@1945Luftwaffe German much? Either way, not even good tires would have helped him there. And further more, with good tires he would eventually have killed someone anyways because he clearly didn't know how to drive on ice.
Montreal has the worst weather. It can be hot, cold, snowy and rainy in 1 day. Icy roads are more common in Montreal during the month of March. It doesn't help when the city collar workers don't spray salt on the roads till the next day!
It never ceases to amaze me at how many people don't know NOT to drive in these conditions, and if they absolutely have to, HOW to drive in these conditions!
I cannot help admiring the patience of the people slowing so much on ice. Still I wonder why our device could attract no attention of entrepreneurs. If it's mass-produced, the skidding accidents should be a history.
These people are either idiots or they are new drivers. When i start out from a dead stop on snow or ice I EASE on the gas very gently and i have never spun the tires that way. I mean what are these people thinking when they FLOOR the pedal and think they are going to get some where. Too much torque and you will spin. I drive a 2001 mazda tribute with general grabber hts tires and they do very well, but even if i had a rear wheel drive car I don't think i would do as bad as these people.
FWD drive cars are only better if more weight is in the front (which is usually the case because the engine is in the front of the car most of the time). However, that Mercedes has the same amount of weight over the back tires as it does the front, therefore having FWD wouldn't have helped it any in the snow.
@georgegto Yes, better possibility of grip but that driver would flunk it anyways. His front wheels had more grip than any drive wheel anywhere on that car. The problem was between the seat and the pedals.
rwd sucks, it has to push the weight of the car and the engine....FWD pulls the weight of the rear of the car with the weight of the engine already sitting on top. rwd < fwd < awd
How do you people live there?!?!

4x4 is good for mud. Ice laughs at 4x4s, then makes them slide backwards down a hill.

Guys, that Merc has 50/50 weight distribution. It wouldn't matter whether it was FWD or not. It's probably summer tires on there.
