I've played for some years now but,I still can't get over how he strums over 3 or so strings(dampened)only playing the single note he wants;all the time every time.
I could listen to this a 1000 times and I'm still just SO SO impressed. As with all his performances i never grow tired. Thank you Stevie for being an infinite wonder.
Wow!!! I've always loved this song and this is why. Not only is Stevie Ray awesome, his band is so tight an Reece Waters goes off. Loved the seamless transition between his solo and then back to Stevie Ray to finish it all off. Stunning!!
You can hear it all in here, I think. Not just the contemporary New York, Nashville and Austin centers but also the roots! From Chicago through St. Louis and Memphis down through all the Delta's reds whites and blues to the mouth of the big muddy at the Jazz of New Orleans...
Uncompromising, this is a screaming national anthem.
@MrPlainsteel I think its either just fast vibrato(the effect, not the technique) or hes playing through a leslie (like in cold shot) except more sped up. ..only for the intro though.
this is some fine assed weatha in Decemba Januara Februara Marchin/stompin April thrillin May I smack it down June me over the moon July aint no time to cry August is freakin hot September is burnin leavin embas October iuber cool November thankin srv the mentor.. Stevie can cure a whole year of blues without even hangin around.. he is hangin all the time now
I am so diggin' Reese's solo, as I'm a jazz pianist. He played plenty of jazz licks throughout that solo of his. This was his song that night. Stevie let him go at it. I love Stevie's playing however. Always have since the day I started listening to him until the day I die.

He doesn't look that good here. He was in the middle of his drugs period at this video. I've heard better of him. He's not in tone here...

@annolenno he actually started his drug recovery in late 86, so he's sober here.

noticed the guitar switch right away, also noticed he wasn't as comfortable on his "signature" guitar as he was on the SRV

Don't forget Double Trouble. His two backing guys on bass and drums are FANTASTIC - in this clip and as always.

SRV is SOOOO phenomenal!!! (IMO, third best of all time, behind Michael Schenker and Rory Gallagher. But I may as well call it a 3 way tie!)
