  • Too gaint much?

  • painless apocalypse

  • Comment removed

  • FUCK YEAH! no sound in space *-*

  • That's scary.

  • 20 people were on one of these planets when they hit each other.

  • asshole he sucked it

  • Did he died?

  • Explosion.

  • Someone dosen't have a sense of vid-game humor!

But why should Science AND Religion always butt heads!?

If you ask me, both sides are on the path to self-anihilation!

  • DAMN YOU SEPHIROTH!! YOU BLEW IT ALL TO HELL!!!!

  • Epic...

  • Are people seriously talking about the bible here :s what is wrong with them haven't they already realized that 'maybe' it's just a story. Haven't they've seen enough movies from the univers that aren't mentioned in the bible

  • just a new planet then ?

  • But the real question is, which object is impacting which? Relativistically speaking. :P

  • Well, the good news is - it looks like it will be quick and painless.

  • And the Roche limit?

  • Diameter of Earth is 12,000 km. Planet hit the Earth at 0:23 and the fire wave pass whole planet at 0:38 So, in 14 seconds made 10,000km It means the speed of the planet was around 10,000/14 = 700km/sec Highest speed of the asteroid could be 30km/sec so, if you wanna see the realtime effect you have to slow down that video around 700/30 = around 23 times:) Just let you know

  • @AllanSlotberg Mind boggleing... absolutly mind boggleing

  • @AllanSlotberg

    It was a Mercury-sided planet.

  • Reformat your harddrive? nah, reformat your fuckin planet.

  • @ns88ster Your comment is a disgrace to the human race. That you do not know what religion is indicates defects only in your knowledge, which can be alleviated by true education. Probably you have been cheated by the demoniac (illuminati) system of education, which posits that there is no general reason and no purpose, at least nothing better than their agenda. In reality, the world exists regardless of demons, because there is a general order, universal law, all-pervading and eternal, religion.

  • @vlddas You see, what you are experiencing is due to Psychosis. You believe whatever you believe because you are suffering from an abnormal condition of the mind and therefore a loss of contact with reality. Your delusional beliefs, some of which are paranoid in nature are not normal. Thankfully, due to scientific progress you can treat this. So good luck in your future, and have a good life!

  • @ns88ster Religion builds hope in people. Hope in the mystic or sacred. Homeopathy is exactly the same thing. So it is Astrology. The "science" of the weak minded persons who can't make decisions by themselves and need the position of planets among stars as their personal flip coin...

These institutions need to be abolished for the Earth.

  • @ns88ster Your premises are a little premature, my friend, so your conclusions are incorrect. There have been advanced civilizations on this planet since the beginings of time in this universe. It is the so-called scientists, or speculators, who are trying to explain that which is in fact fully know by the enlightened, the followers of the ancient knowledg, the Vedas. - MSc.

  • @Tamoharadasa Firstly, I am not your friend. There have not been more advanced civilizations, previously on this planet. We know this from archeological data. Also the evidence has not been brought forth for other lifeforms in the universe... yet! You conclusions are unfounded and without any solid proof. Therefore it falls on you to present this evidence, otherwise you are basically full of shit.

  • @ns88ster I don't talk to hot air, which physical state you may be rather adjacent to. Best of luck with the closed mind thing, friend.

  • that ain't good

  • I wonder how many hits it would get on YouTube if it really happened and someone with a video camera looked up and noticed it.

  • for over 20 years that I, observes these comets, asteroids and comets ufo & Other dragged leave this cold white gasses emanating from a 100 000 kmh and UFO propulsion by acting from top to bottom this white light emitter has a frequency ulltra low 1 Hz at a speed of mach 2.8236 thousands, asteroids more than 2 km in diameter composed of oxide, titanium fragments, stoles that have exploded the way milky consists of 145000 stars dear friend

  • @shawnee2014 Oh hi TimeCube.

  • @shawnee2014 haha your talking alot of bulshit :L

  • the stronger planet absorves the weak planet, and a new planet is created.

this happened with earth 4 billion years ago with a planet called thea

  • Compared to other impacts in the universe, that cannot even be called a small impact.

  • MUSIC="ON";

  • OMFG. Why is it whenever anything scientific is discussed on the internets, religion starts being discussed. Science and religion are completely different things. Scientific theories are based on induction, while religion is based on faith. Religion focuses on the way people should behave, and science focuses on understanding the natural world. They have very little to do with each-other.

  • @ektrules Religious people are brain washed probably. While scared to know the truth maybe.

  • @ektrules not when u talk about creation haha

  • @ektrules Modern science can only give irresponsible hypotheses, trying to impose artificial limits on our knowledge by rejecting all reliable sources of knowledge and keeping only the auxiliary ones. Religion was originally based on authoritative knowledge, but, most likely, you do not know what religion is. Authoritative knowledge is long lost (and was scantily present initially) in christian tradition. They are now embracing scientific methods, i.e. experimentation and speculation.

  • nice animation .... :D

and ns88ster what the HELL? you didn't take your medicines again??

  • everything turn turn turn

  • needs sound.

  • @ThundareRed some metal music

  • how can a planet come out of nowhere just explode

  • lol the planet turned into the sun

  • Wow. That planet was turned into a churning ball of magma!! I'd hate to think about something like that happening to earth.

  • @2013Neptune This is the Earth. Something like this happened to it billions of years ago. Its the reason Earth has a moon, and a slight wobble - hence the seasons.

  • One single virus cannot eradicate a race. There are people who are immune to a given virus and are just carriers. For instance, there were several people who were exposed to AIDS when it first broke out during the 80's in New York, and never got infected. It turns out they carried antibody genes from survivors of the Black Plague in Europe during the Middle Ages. For every disease, there are those who have a natural resistance.

  • Now that would be a sight worth seeing.

  • @happyidiottalk not if i was standing on the bastard...

ahh lovely day toda.. oh shi..

  • dude my mom showed me this video and it scares the crap out of her! lol! Also she didnt know it was a fake of what could happen to another planet othuer than earth with a moon shpaedimpactor

  • I wished I could make such animations!

  • it's science. There are some things that are more evolved than others. Astronomy has greatly improved

  • toast

  • i really dont want to believe this.....

  • ns88ster: Well put and with humor.. lol

The Christian creation story is, of course, no less absurd than any of a thousand ancient creation myths. [Like the apocryphal myth of the universe as an infinite tower of turtles!].

When is the human race going to grow up?

  • Now its a star

  • 1 - Our planet travels at a 1000MPH around the sun, the sun travels around the Galaxy at 485,000 MPH, our earth is moving at over 485,000MPH. If a planet sized rock came into our Galaxy moving in the opposity direction, the planet would strike ours so fast we wouldn't have time to blink.

  • Galaxys are so far apart that it wouldn''t happen for a while though, right now the Andromeda is coming towards us at around 500,000 MPH, It's chasing us around if you like, it will probably reach us and destroy every thing in around 400,000,000 years...So yeah, we're good :) :P

  • Not saying another galaxy is going to strike us, lol, humans will be long gone by then. Just stating that if a rogue "planet sized comet" were to have entered our galaxy millions of years ago, going in the opposite direction of our planet, and were to strike out planet, it would be a VERY fast impact.

  • We have an advantage of the dinosaurs. We are the tool builders. We'll be alive, in other places, in other universes. If everything works out relatively normal for our species, we will survive another 400 million years. By the time Andromeda smacks us, we'll be gone somewhere new. Don't doubt our mind's ability to evolve, and the the new exponential increase in technological invention. We might end disease/cancer/aging by 2050-2200 at this rate. Our life expectancy has doubled in 100 years. :)

  • @Cr8zyCanuck You think too highly of the human race, 40 years ago people thought we would have flying cars by now. I in no way think we will live "400,000,000" years. I see a lot of potential for the human race, but we are already creating machines at the quantum level that can do more complex thinking then a human brain. Robots are the future of the human race, our bodies limit us heavily. The only thing traveling to other galaxies are machines, not us.

  • @sacr3

Dude, we will never achieve true AI... computer codes crash and become unstable the longer the get... I don't think you truly understand the complexity of the Human Brain.

The main reason we will not live for ever is because we will destroy ourselves. When one nation has more than 7 times the amount of weapons to destroy the world once over, we are most definitely screwed.

Our best bet is to colonize moons/planets (earths moon, mars and mars' moons) so that one event cannot extinct man.

  • Or sterilize entire planet. :P

Andromeda is more or less 2-3 mld years from us, so we still have lots of time, but where do we go, another galaxy is pretty far away, light travels milions of years from other galaxies, how long would we survive without any natural energy source, wormholes would be the thing to look into, in one mld years or so, but general theory isn't helping with the predictions, since nothing would come back on the other side as it was before the trip. :)

  • @sacr3 your math is wrong, because if a planet was to colides with another planet something that happened in the baby solar systeme , both planet will be bend gravitiaonaly to the sun so counting the speed of the sun around the center of the galaxy is false.

  • O_O

    Wow....

Is there some event that will happen similar to this? If so, what is it?

  • that's the thing no boom. no noise at all. most people can't get it but 2 huge ass rocks collide with the equivalent of 10,000*the worlds total of nukes and it's completely silent.

  • Yes, but how about a graising hit. Not every impact is head on.

  • wrath of khan anybody?

  • kinda scary imagining that. at least we wont be here when/if it happens

  • damn...that was cool

  • nice, would be more awesome with sound!! XD

  • in space?

  • there's no sound in space

  • @kulemv yes there is, just depends on how close you were

  • George Lucas directed this.

  • Oh shit. I always thought the colisions were like in Star Wars.

  • Religion sucks, deal with it.

  • the two masses combined into a hot liquid mass

  • JPL!!

I was there for the 2009 Science Bowl!

    SO much fun

  • LOOK! It's gonna hit Europe!

    No big loss...

  • omg

    nice!

  • That's hot babe.

  • very close to what it would actually look like

  • we are just the bacteria on an infectious planet...

  • i agree

  • I like how it just peels the surface off... nice. :)

  • Neat!

  • You probably haven't made a research about the religion aspect of the idea.

One of the main religions says: a.God was and always will be forever. b. He is not just the suprime mind but also the suprime life organism. c. He is the matter and time. d. Except our world he've created thousands more worlds like ours.

  • what does that have to do with anything??!

stop trying to force your ideals on others.

    nobody wants to hear it!

  • if you believe in god, you lost the game....

  • hmm, i believe in god, my life isnt any more difficult than that of an atheist. how did i lose?

enjoy ur incredibly small and insignificant existance. cuz thats what life is according to science.

  • So you only chose religion out of comfort, not because you actually believe in God.

Yeah, I don't think you thought that one through.

  • if you dont actually believe in the religion, how does it bring any comfort. only does so if u actually believe ull go to heaven or be reincarnated or whatever. and ive believed in god since a young boy and i dont think i was thinking about life and death when i chose religion

  • No...monkeys and people have a common ancestor, that's all.

  • @n85639

    That would be... Your mother?

  • why do ppl always critizise christians no one ever ask any more before judgeing o hes christian cus he dont belive in evolution why cant it be o hes a zeuist or budist or even hindu no its always the Christians

  • i do feel sorry that people are in that situation but i can answer that question.

the current climate of american fundamental christians has caused a heated debate here on youtube.

these fundies are clearly stupid and resort to trolling and harrassment.

thus when god is mentioned people assume 'arsehole'.

i still don't agree with your faith but i'm glad you didn't use it in place of science (assuming you are christian).

  • yea i c thats the problem with us humans today we always judge before we know wats behind the door coming thats why some times i hate some of my fellow christians as well because we only judge with out the knowledge of the other side thanks bra

  • @8593jose Umm...Hindus and Buddhists aren't under the impression that a God created them via intelligence design, THAT'S why...

and typically, you're going to see Christians on the internet over Jews or Muslims, seeing as how Western Society, which is most advanced, is formally Christian...

  • @ns88ster just wanted to say that even though im catholic, this is pretty good stuff. haha

  • @ns88ster +1+1+1+1+1

  • @ns88ster Its funny because its true!

...Oh yes it is Christians, dont deny it.

  • @ns88ster fuck you..?

  • @xXxJokerManxXx How very christian of you.

  • @ns88ster well good luck then. I bet you'll end up killing yourself :D srsly. :D

  • @xXxJokerManxXx That doesnt even make sense. Typical.

  • @ns88ster

terry gilliam could make a wicked movie out of that for sure

  • @ns88ster what the fuck has that got to do with anything????

  • @Dhalsim06 Ask the christians that keep commenting EVERY single science video on youtube that respond with hocus pocus bullshit.

  • @ns88ster xD Good one!

  • @ns88ster It's not a literal belief, rather than just instructions on how to live happy.

  • @ns88ster

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that there is an evil force in our soul. It's our flesh for one, and two - it's not because of Eve. Adam ate the fruit which was therefore a breach in the covenant with God, having nothing to do with Eve, because the covenant was made before her existence. The idea of Jesus being his own father is a misconception. He and God are on, such as when a man takes a wife, they become one. He doesn't remove sin, he is the sacrifice for forgiveness.

  • @JonJacobM Do you seriously believe I haven't read the story before? Everything you just said is ancient superstitious nonsense. The fact that you even consider evil spirits, curses and holy magic to be on the same level as REAL science and the study of the world around us says a lot about the education level in your country.

  • Total Wipeout

  • PWNED

  • trippy

  • that waz buuck*******

  • Here's what I know.

If something like this were to ever happen in my lifetime, I'm just going to bend over and kiss my own ass goodbye!

    :)

  • I'd like to see that!

    If you need assistance....

  • Haha!

Well, maybe I'll just give myself a pat on the shoulder and call it a day.

Or... call out for my mama.

    :)

  • That's weird, the Moon turned Mercury into a molten ball of rock??? It was all wavery and liquidy!

  • you know how they said the earth would end in 2012?

well that's never going to happen how do i know they

said the same thing in 1985,1992,2000,2005,2007 and 2009. oh and if you have xbox live put this gamer tag in

    xxnightmarexx66

  • For those wondering why they'd make an animation like this: It's how the moon is theorized to have been formed. A young earth was struck by a smaller planet sized object, and from the impact, a huge portion of the early earth sort of "splashed" off, and formed the moon. The other planet and what remained of the old Earth melded into the new Earth.

That's my guess why they would make this animation.

  • Hmmm...

I wonder why NASA would make an animation like this...

  • this is an animation of Impact Theory

The theory is about the creation of them moon. It states that a mars-sized planetesimal crashed into an earth sized planet that was starting to solidify. The crash made the earth molten but changed the chemistry. The debris that was shot into space made the moon. This theory is highly accepted because the earth and moon have many common compounds. (moon-rock samples)

  • NIIIIIICE SPARKLES X-)

  • fucking hell ,, hope that shit doesnt happen to us in the next 80 years ,, let me die first

  • Interesting actually... As the molten internal rock remained, would that then solidify into another crust around the outside?

  • It wouldn't be quick but eventually yes.

  • It actually wouldn't even burn up like that. The impact would be catastrophic, but it wouldn't incinerate the planet, only tear it to tiny pieces in the coolest impact ever. There's no incendiary to produce that kind of heat.

But if it were to be in that state, if the heat wasn't being continually fueled by something, then yes it would eventually solidify..

  • You're entirely wrong. The impact would cause tremendous heat due to the pressure of the collision.

  • My bad then. Sorry for the misinformation.

  • Umm, not pressure, kinetic energy is simply being converted into heat. Simple thermodynamics on macro-scale, unbelievably complicated thermo dynamics on the (relatively) micro scale.

  • "being converted into"... through pressure and friction... without pressure or friction, there can be no heat conversion

  • @sterance2 wrong.

there is a SHIT LOAD of energy in kinetic impacts. especially since the two objects within the collision have/had an extremely large mass and and relatively high velocities.

most of the energy was transferred to the larger planet, making the crust "peel off" due to shockwaves throughout the proto earth, however, a good amount of energy was also converted into heat. this heat melted the impactor and part of the impactee and then the two iron cores converged.

  • That's pretty frickin awesome.

  • In reality, wouldnt the two bodies be moving at a much slower speed?

  • Yes. This is sped up at least a million times.

  • AGAIN!

Why the hell do peopla have to debate about RELIGION? It's fricking stupid, just think about it. One belives and other one doesn't none can prove the other party wrong.

I've said it earlier and I'll say it again.

Debating about religion is the same as debating what the colour blue tastes like.

Man I hate when good science material is ruined with these dipshits arguing about religion like morons, thinking that they can change what the other one belives in.

Shame on you all. Nuff' said.

  • Agreed. Stop confusing the people not arguing over religion.

  • Geez, some people need to get a life here. A vid about 2 astronomical bodies colliding results in religion debate... WTF?!!

  • IT'S PLANET X! RUUUUUUUUN!!!!!!!

  • Holly crap! :S

  • lol good video looking at the comments i see alot of god wont let that happen!

  • Why is it whenever I find some cool sciency video on youtube, the majority have a grade 8 debate on religion in the comments section. If we can't agree to disagree, we should at least save the religion debates for the proper time/place, and not the comments section of an astronomy video. Just the thoughts fished up from the top of my head. Oh, and rock on Mr. Plait. Your enthusiasm for space is far too infectious. Good luck with the JREF :D.

  • It's amazing how naive some of you religious people are...

  • Does anyone know what would that look like in real-time? Would it actually be that fast!?

  • There is no god, and when you die you die, thats it. Everything else is just wishful thinking and diluted thought there I said it, of course what I said is considered a theory but once your brain stops your thoughts stop end of story, so I guess live in your fantasy's while you can cause chances are you will never know your gone. And also All this Religion has absolutely NOTHING to do with this video or SCIENCE for that matter take your gibberish elsewhere.

  • Dear lothor,

I have heard a theory the author of whom I can't remember:

"If you are a saved Christian and it is untrue, oh well.

If you are unsaved the Christianity is true, the consequences are Catastrophic."

On my side, I am saved and I know Christianity is true. I find it hard for someone to be able to look at the Earth and the Wonders of the Human Body and Brain and say that it wasn't intelligently created. The chances that are contained in evolution are so small, that it would take

  • more faith to believe evolution than Creation. So if an intelligent being has created us, it would be foolish to mark him as non-existent and void. And on the contrary, the original discussion revolved around God's omnipotence in the control of the planets...God preventing a planet from smashing into the earth. Creation followed suit because God created some planets to end up being destroyed, but not yet on this one. You'll have to wait till the end of the Millennial Reign.

  • How does it take more faith to believe in a scientific theory that has a massive ammount of evidence backing it up, people fine tuning it and working on it constantly and doesnt rely on people believing in it to be true than a 2000 year old myth (assuming your Christain, after all there are more than one creation story) that has no supporting evidence likely never happened and was obviously written by the bronze age people of the time. It amazes me that you even found this video!

  • A. I found the video through a link given by a friend.

    2. I am a Christian who believes in 7 literal days of creation.

III. The Bible was not written by man. God inspired what was written. It is God's book, not Moses's or Peter's or David's. Reading the book would tell you that as it states that itself. I am not agreeing with Pascal and I don't even recommend that theory. I apologize for bringing it up. It was superfluous. I took Biology 2 years ago. Evolution is just a theory.

  • On final thought, I don't plan to force my view upon you. Feel free to arrive at your own conclusion. I am just stating my side of the argument. I will leave you to mull as I am done here. I do recommend reading at least some of Scripture to make a final conclusion. And I apologize for the contrite answers. I ran out of 500 characters.

  • Do you accept that humans sometimes make things up?

Why, then, is a God-inspired Bible more probable than a made-up Bible, especially considering that the Bible has several glaring inaccuracies, self-contradictions, and no independent evidence in its favor?

  • One I fail to see how an Arbitrary act such as belief would send you to heaven and Hell and also your describing Pascels Wager, witch basically says that you should believe because if your wrong your screwed, well theres two problems with this,. one your assuming a Malevolent being would be fooled by someone "Playing it safe" and two you assume out of the Thousands of religions you were magicaly born into the right one. And also read a biology book before you make untrue statements on evolution.

  • Hey, idiot. First of all, I'm norwegian, and most of the teachers I've had are crappy.

Second, I don't write one letter an hour, so the words sometimes gets switched.

Of course I know it's 'theory' and not 'theroy', 'OH, Smart One'.

  • You say Christians are wrong, and very defensive to what they believe. The scient about the big bang theroy is logical, but science can also be wrong.

The bumblebee for example, it shouldn't fly, still it does. Or maybe it doesn't, maybe we just think it is?

Its logical that the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly. It still does. Why should I or any other person believe in any other logical facts?

  • That is a myth that bees cant fly:

It is believed that the calculations which purported to show that bumblebees cannot fly are based upon a simplified linear treatment of oscillating aerofoils.

    Pt 1

  • Pt2

The method assumes small amplitude oscillations without flow separation. This ignores the effect of dynamic stall, an airflow separation inducing a large vortex above the wing, which briefly produces several times the lift of the aerofoil in regular flight. More sophisticated aerodynamic analysis shows that the bumblebee can fly because its wings encounter dynamic stall in every oscillation cycle

    I'm just saying.

  • Hey KatiePF, did you read what I wrote about bumblebees and their abillity to fly? So what were you saying about "logical facts" and "sience can also be wrong"/

  • Yeah, I did, and I have to admit I was wrong about that one. But then again, I don't understand why there was a big bang, there had to be something causing it, and where did that something come from? And, of course, God would come from somewhere too, but no one have proof that there isn't a God. I don't have any proof that there is a God, but still, it's what I chose to believe. I got dragged into this conversations because I reacted to discrimination, not because I wanted to argue.

  • So because you dont understand it God done it... God of the Gaps for the win!

  • I hadn't heard about that they had found a logical reason to why a bumblebee. So if it was logical impossible, I thought why should I believe in other logicals reasons? Because a bumblebee can fly, so...
