I was around 18, going to college in 1968 and 1969 when this song was still going strong on the local radio stations. I highly respect Ed Ames for his career, both in acting and singing. Have always liked him. Thanks for posting the song.
I wonder who the woman is that's on the album cover with Mr. Ames? In 1967 she looks kije she was probably 30-35 years of age which would make her near 80 today. I wonder where she is ?
I still have this album. This is one of my very favorite songs ever and Ed too, is one of my very favs. I saw him in person in Anderson Indiana when Ayr Way opened a store there. He came for that and I along with the kids for Tishamingo/Daniel Boones friend stood in line to see him and have him autograph this and another album.
I'm 38 years old and I'm not even supposed to have heard of this song in theory, but it was on a mixed compilation CD I bought a few years ago and instantly was hooked on it.
@landrykkb there is nothing wrong with being a romantic(not a sap). what you are is what is possibly missing in today's world. My mother used to say marriage and relationship problems began when men and women stopped holding each other while dancing and stopped listening to pure love songs.
@mohsin1054 I especially feel very romantic these days because there's someone I feel very deeply about and even though there's a very good chance I could get hurt,I'm only too willing to take that risk because nothing about love comes easy. The easiest thing in the world for anybody to do is walk away out of fear they'll get hurt, but I would never live with myself if I did that.
It is very rare that a talented singer and an outstanding song come together. But that is what happend here. This version ist far beyond the best ever.
wow, thats, dont mean to troll, but that sucked. ok, so im only 14, i saw this song on an old record in a basement im working on, i had to hear the song. so, ive came to the conclusion, ill stick with a7x and Ra
This was a top 10 top 40 hit-the days when top 40 would play this and the next song would be a Rolling Stones tune or the Beatles..or Motown...damn those were the days...
I too was 10 when I heard this song and I remember, at even such a young age, what a beautiful song I was hearing. Now I am a composer and musican and each time I play the piano, I recall this song.
I first heard this song when i was 10 years old and now, that I am 55 years old I still love this song, and would consider it a privlage and a honor to sing this song on americas got talent, don't know if mr ames is still alive but i will do my best not to let him or this beautiful song down

Incredible.....I can put it on a loop and listen all day long. I have heard many other versions....even others by the great Ed Ames....but this particular rendition is by far the best. The tempo, pitch and vibrato is perfect and you can feel it right down to your bones.
Mr. Ames out did all of the best with this song. I have never heard another love song that could beat it. Ever. I was in junior high when I first heard it, so it's with plenty of years of listening experience that I come to this conclusion. (((((((Ed Ames <3 )))))))))
Mr. Ames outdid Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams and all the rest with this one. There's never been a better love song since. <3 I was in junior high when I first heard this song and I thought, that's the kind of love I want someday. I'm still waiting...
@PalaverTwist Sorry about the repeat. I thought I had the one canceled in time. Oh well, how better to emphasize my adoration of one of the greatest singers of our time? Right?
I just bought this actual album yesterday, 1967 vinyl, like new, 99 cents! Turns out this song is the ONLY one with Botkin as arranger/conductor! Ed's performing 4 hours away from me in 2 weeks. Should I go?
@PalaverTwist I went. I met Ed. He signed my 'new' album! His security head couldn't believe how much I knew about music. I went to LA last week and spent an hour with Stu Phillips, the producer who created Blue Moon with the Marcels 50 years ago this month! Stu was the arranger/conductor on 'Melinda' also from this album.
Ed sang for nearly an hour. He's about 84 now & in fantastic shape. The range & the length of the notes are diminished but the beauty of the voice is VERY much there !!!
@chkjns That is SO awesome! I hope you know, you were one of the lucky ones who will be able to tell your posterity that you saw him in person and what an honor and a privilege it was, not that I'm telling you anything you don't already know. If I seem somewhat green, it's because I'm so jealous!
When I heard this song as a kid, I thought he was singing "My cup, run it over, with love." I had this image of someone putting a cup down in a driveway and someone else, very lovingly, driving over the cup.
Its almost impossible to comment on such beautiful music. Oh to be young again! Life really was slower and I think it was easier to appreciate the fun and the challenges the days held. As I get older I realize why life isn't meant to go on forever. And I understand why people who are content with life are able to appreciate all the simple things that can bring us the kind of joys we never forget..
This was a favorite song of my parents. It was from a Broadway music called "I Do! I Do!" starring Mary Martin & Robert Preston. Ed Ames had a few solo hits in the late 1960s, of which this and an anti-war song called "Who Will Answer" were probably the best known.
@sleeplessonthehill This charted #1 because of the superb orchestral wizardry of arranger Perry Botkin, Jr. His playlist is one of 350 individual artist lists where I honor the best musicians on earth. 111 more lists cover the music of every year since 1900. It's one thing to write or sing a song, quite another to build a wall of orchestral sound behind it that hooks the listener AND shows the vocalist to best advantage at the same time. Perry was a MASTER at this ! ! ! Come say hi! Chuck
.....great singer but boring song.
