My 04 rmz 250 did that, i checked the valves and the exhaust valve was lifting to early, after the adjustment its better, it will turn red after idling a while, not red hot anymore it wont be red if your moving, dont freak out, your not doing damage to the engine and the header wont melt, but definately get it checked out.

thats normal with a 450. idling for long periods of time can cause this, no need for alarm, just, if it gets past the header, you are running lean.
