I liked the review, but you really failed to mention just how awful the selection of games are. Yes, you have some titles worth playing, but the majority seem like garbage... I grew up playing the 2600 and would love to see in these retro units Pitfall, Wizard of Wor, Space Invaders...etc The cool games worth playing!
@Tobruk42 What's worth playing is very individual, so it really wouldn't be fair for me to comment on the selection of 60 games from the standpoint of being good or not. I made the list available on the blog post and it's clearly indicated elsewhere. The games you mentioned are all properties of other companies and probably would have been cost prohibitive to license for this product. It's clear with the FB 3 that Atari was trying to do this on the cheap this time. Pity, but still, there are 60.
I found a Flashback 1 at a thrift store today for 9 bucks in like new condition. I think it's pretty cool, I don't see why the flashback 1 wasn't good in you're opinion. Maybe I think it's good because I got it for only 9 bucks lol.
@meowskull The Flashback 1 is no good because it's a poor simulation of Atari 2600 and 7800 games, with terrible approximations of the games' performance. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks it's a quality product. For $9, though, it's probably worth a chuckle.
@meowskull Yeah, if you knew how they were supposed to be, you'd be very disappointed. At least you get to enjoy it for what it is, which is something many of us can't. The best part of the Flashback 1 was that it sold enough to get us the Flashback 2...
@BobCMcDonald No, none of the Flashbacks or any other mass market device like this allows for carts. It's the built-in games or nothing, though the Flashback 2 and 2+ can be hacked if you have the right skills to add in a cartridge port. At that point, though, it's just easier to get an original 2600 or 7800 and just do a composite or s-video output modification.
I hope the Flashback 4 will have Atari 8-bit games, like the unreleased 8-bit Asteroids. They should also put in the 2600 Tempest prototype.

@BillLoguidice Meh, I guess I'm content with it because I've never really played or experienced the genuine Atari systems.
