@CrucifiedxSaint It means when you know you have an advantage, work to make that advantage bigger. Don't try to end the game just because you think you're slightly ahead, that's how you lose. Play the game out and get every advantage you can.
@jsweeney0530 If you are going to criticize a caster for making a mistake while speaking, you have missed ALOT of mistakes, and quite frankly, if there were no mistakes I would consider them Gods of speaking.
@TheAtheologian 1. this was not one time that he said it. i heard him say it about on about 3 different occasions. 2. I am not "criticizing". This was not a serious critique of his casting abilities (hence the lmao and I love you dapallo.) 3. What is your problem? Do you really think dapollo needs to be defended? Please calm yourself.
I just started ladder yesterday, somehow got placed silver and kept losing games (like my 1st 10 games in a row). Watched your first video and went into a ZvZ and won with more control than I thought I was capable of! It was a messy game but I remembered to play safe and react, and one crippling counter was all that was needed. Thanks dApollo, look forward to the next 3 videos.
Look forward to the Terran one. But deff the scouting where I need to focus. Too often I lose a massive army by having the wrong unit composition even though i have more units
@PrimeZero57 He uses standard like most pros, but that comes from being used to it from broodwar or warcraft. Grid is perfect for people who are new to rts. It has no disadvantages to the standard hotkey layout, but the advantage of learning it after 2-3 games.
@Krauz85 Go to the hotkey menu and choose "Grid". It basically uses qwert, asdfg, yxcvb for the possible commands so you don't have to memorize all the hotkeys. You just need to know the position in the grid on the bottom right side on the screen. (examples, when nexus selected: q=probe, y=chrono; gateway: q=zealot, w=stalker etc.; probe: y=build -> q=nexus, a=gate etc) There are youtube tutorials about this (but you won't need a tutorial , it's really easy to learn)
I find it easier as zerg to key your hatches to one key, then shift f- for each base, that way when you go to produce units you just hit your key which for me is usually 5 for all my hatches then hit s then what you need and if you need to inject you hit your f- for whatever it's set at.
I have learned sooo much only watching parts 1 and 2 so far. It was always my lack of scouting, not knowing what they had. Just owned a toss who had a good amount of collosi, just because I scouted and responded with corrupters. Thank you sir :D
You're a great coach. Just saw the TB coaching (I know, I'm some months late) and it really makes you feel like the average joe can play at platinum after a few tries. And I know for experience it's NOT than simple XD
i found this video much easier to follow than the protoss tutorial. the major thing i took away from this: keep gas and minerals even with overlord production and great scouting methods. I think I would appreciate and subscribe to videos about basic tactics. I would feel better about picking up zerg if I knew better methods of hot keys, injects, surrounds, and perhaps the standard endgame unit mixes. Otherwise I feel these tutorials are too advanced for average players in the lower leagues.
In lower leagues, those things don't matter much, honestly.
For hotkeys, I also do hatches on 4, then each queen separately on 5, 6, and 7 (8 if I get that many bases going). Then I have main army on 1, mutas go to 2, and infestors on 3.
As far as surrounds - I just run lings passed the army, hit s, and trap them. Sometimes you can set up flanks if you have good map vision.
For mixes - lower leagues it doesn't matter. Just have more "stuff" than him.
@1337HxC thx for reply. I was watching TB and he was injecting from queens to one hotkey and then shift-v to the minimap on all his hatcheries. Is this personal preference or do you think your method keeps better timings?
You CAN inject from the minimap... but it generally takes a lot longer. The two most popular are my method (individual hotkeys) and "backspace injecting."
So, I assume you understand my method. Individually hotkey each queen, then inject. So, you'd be hitting like: 5,5,v,6,6v... etc
Backspace injecting is different. Backspace cycles through all your hatcheries. So you put all your queens on 1 key, then backspace and inject. So: 5, bs, v, bs, v... etc.
The backspace method is faster once you get it down, but if you can somehow misclick and have queens trying to run across the map to inject. If you choose this method, I recommend changing the backspace function to an easier key... like "w" or something. Additionally, after you inject all your hatches, make sure you hit "s" to stop any stray queens from running around the map.
Brilliant work the Apollo! its very complete and easy to understand. Altho I think you didnt cover some basics... but I guess this isnt for the absolute multiplayer newbie
Just a comment to the muta upgrade at 16:17. If the other guy is going mutas as well you should get upgrade the Flyer Armor, NOT the Flyer Attack. The reason is that the Flyer Attack ONLY affect the first of the three hits, while the Flyer Armor defelcts ALL three hits. So 12 +1/+0 Mutas loose to 12 +0/+1 Mutas.
@Mickeyboymitch In bronze, that's really not to impressive. But I suppose that's assuming you know some of this type of stuff, and there's no question that these videos are extremely helpful.
@ndreamer the best scouting tip I ever learnt for lower leagues is to use two zerglings on patrols routes at the start of the game; one patrolling between his natural and third, and the other patrolling between every other expansion on the map. that 50 minerals has won me so many games, because you can always either stay one base ahead or tell when a rush is coming.
@myszorg but thats what the best at what they do....they make it look so easy, but what hes showing u isnt you should be as good as me u should follow the ideas hes teaching
ur composure seems amazing to me but i guess not uprising since ur used to much higher lvl of play. i always lose to terran when they banshee or do marine drops in my base but this guide really helped
@TheMightyThor319 Well if you scout at around 5:30~6:00 and see two Starports with Tech Labs, that means cloaked banshees. All you have to do is build an Evo Chamber(if you don't already have one) and get 3 Spore Crawlers at your main and your natural. At least, that's what I've found to be effective.
I was like "Haha, yeah, low leagues was easy." I'm in platinum, he gets to platinum: "Just playing safe and we can get through the low leagues easy.". Anger! ;)
thanks for again for this brilliant free basic safe zerg coaching Apollo, i'm already progressing good! any new sc2 zerg player should see this :D top notch !
@mornavail try roach rush, whilst not being able to attack air you should be able to do enough damage before they get carriers to set them back then get hydralisk den and go roach-hydralisk im not that high(rank 18 silver) but it works in my league
Question! i tend to find people like to do mass air or rush air agenst zerg in bronze. (includeing one who turtled then did mass carrier and mothership) whats the best way to stop this? i tryed fast agression but they tend to shoot it down with the air units they make then push
@4:45 , it looks like you have your main hatch way pointed to 2 different locations, if that's true how do you do that? One for drones one for zerglings?
dApollo, i have a question. Are Hydras viable complement for a roach based build ou should i focus only in building Roaches and only get Hydras in case of air units?
@mechanixification whats even more sad are the people who are like: "im way better than you, just leave" and when you win they're like: "you're awful" and just leave.
@timgroen1995 I hate when people say "If I had done X instead of Y, you would've lost." Do you not get this game? If you had gone X instead of Y, I would've ended up going A instead of B. So ridiculous.
these are good. but I always thought you never drone scouted in ZvZ plus you never open speed anymore vs protoss because they alway sjust wall even 1 base wall off the speed does nothing getitng it very early and its better just to pool then expo then get speed a little later. evne if they 4 gate you can still get speed up in time?
Hey DApollo, I am a zerg, whenever I make a unit, I add it to my hot key for it, and manage in as quickly as I can. What do you think on this? I saw you let your made units go to the hatchs' rally. If you answer this, I would be greatful! thanks xD
@Hulavuta Uh...I didn't mean you were wrong when you said this was a helpful guide. I agree with you there.
What I mean is, why are you not smart enough to click the channel name and see that part 3 is already uploaded? Not to mention part 4 is right there, too.
@brad0544 Oh, haha. Guess That was a little dumb on my part :P Funny because I'm usually the one calling out people for stuff like that. (Kind of embarrassing to do it myself)
Thing is it's not really in the "related" videos on this page (at least for me) only part 1 is. And I'm not really used to getting around on these new channels anyways.
Please make a part 3! And if you could, focus on higher level play. Like Diamond/masters kinda skill-level. You're the best coach/commentator I've seen.
@Minossko I can answer that one for you. Yes, you want to spread creep when going mutas. Mutas in ZvZ pretty much grant you map control, because you snipe his overlords which will leave him in the dark. Now, with creep spread, you will have more vision and your opponent will have none. Creep helps both of you, sure, but YOUR creep grants YOU vision.
@tskamban True. But when going mutas agains roach right before your spire is done a roach push could kill you. No creep would slow the push down making it less effective. And countering spire with a later spire doesn't really work so the enemy would propably go ground units and in the end the speed bonus might end up hurting you. Since you're going mostly air creep gives you only vision but you already have map control so you can just spread lings and OVs. Guess it's a matter of preference :)
Quality videos Apollo, a small point though, seeing as you say it a lot, you mean 'reiterate' not 'illiterate' - one means to emphasize or restate a point, the other means an inability to read ^^
If I just built a new expansion and I want to get drones there, is it okay to "worker rally" all my hatcheries there and build drones so that drones are going halfway across the map to the new hatchery? Or should I not do that?
@qwas12348gr5 try to keep your rallys to the closes mineral patch and then just box 7 drones to move them over to your 3ed or 4th its better to have them move as a transfer then to build and walk them over
Thanks. But just to make sure: So either way, I shouldn't just be building drones at my expansion? I can build at both then just transfer groups over?
@qwas12348gr5 you sure can, some people wait for the expansion to be almost up, and just make 20 drones and rally them to it. It's more about larva management, I mean, you just spent 20 larvas, the opponent pushes, you could be in trouble. The key is to know when to drone (via scout), and balance drones in your bases, doesn't matter if transferred or rallied. (Diamond player)
this actualy helps alot, im in silver now and won 90% of my games this way, but wen the game lasts longer than 30mins(terran wall) it gets harder but mass lings always prevaile
@Picasso43967 actually he doesnt need to be very good himself ;) the best trainers at least within sports aint very good themself (anymore since they got older etc) and some off them never been very good at competing but they just have that overview and mindset which makes them perfect for coaching others in a way that makes them excel beyound anything they could do on their own ^^ (at least that my general experience from 10+ years in elite fighting sports)
He coaches the pros. He himself therefore knows the idea behind it and has played plenty of it(so he has the mind and the mechanics of him aren't gone be terrible as a direct result).
He is a decent high master/low grand master player. He certainly isn't a pro as the likes of Idra or HuK.
@KyreElador I agree that it's unbelievably useful, but it's hardly fair to expect a zerg player to make tutorials for another race ;)
Also terran don't have the same initial problems as zerg. They don't suffer as much from lack of scouting or poor defence, the main problems at lower levels of play, and essentially that's what this tutorial boils down to. Terran difficulty spikes at higher levels.
why no terren video

@Hulavuta Are you retarded?
brad0544 1 month ago
@brad0544 No...I'm being honest. And I think most of the people who have commented agree with me.
Hulavuta 1 month ago
@Hulavuta Uh...I didn't mean you were wrong when you said this was a helpful guide. I agree with you there.
What I mean is, why are you not smart enough to click the channel name and see that part 3 is already uploaded? Not to mention part 4 is right there, too.
brad0544 1 month ago
@brad0544 Oh, haha. Guess That was a little dumb on my part :P Funny because I'm usually the one calling out people for stuff like that. (Kind of embarrassing to do it myself)
Thing is it's not really in the "related" videos on this page (at least for me) only part 1 is. And I'm not really used to getting around on these new channels anyways.

In the 2nd game when playing ZvZ defensively and teching to mutas do you still want to spread creep?
Minossko 2 months ago
@Minossko I can answer that one for you. Yes, you want to spread creep when going mutas. Mutas in ZvZ pretty much grant you map control, because you snipe his overlords which will leave him in the dark. Now, with creep spread, you will have more vision and your opponent will have none. Creep helps both of you, sure, but YOUR creep grants YOU vision.
tskamban 2 months ago
@tskamban True. But when going mutas agains roach right before your spire is done a roach push could kill you. No creep would slow the push down making it less effective. And countering spire with a later spire doesn't really work so the enemy would propably go ground units and in the end the speed bonus might end up hurting you. Since you're going mostly air creep gives you only vision but you already have map control so you can just spread lings and OVs. Guess it's a matter of preference :)

whats the idea of build a evochamber on the rival base?
secorta 2 months ago in playlist Starcraft II Tutorials
@secorta He tried to block his gas but it only slows it a little because the drones have to go around the evochamber.

Quality videos Apollo, a small point though, seeing as you say it a lot, you mean 'reiterate' not 'illiterate' - one means to emphasize or restate a point, the other means an inability to read ^^

I need a tip:
If I just built a new expansion and I want to get drones there, is it okay to "worker rally" all my hatcheries there and build drones so that drones are going halfway across the map to the new hatchery? Or should I not do that?
I would love if anyone could answer, thanks :D
qwas12348gr5 2 months ago
@qwas12348gr5 try to keep your rallys to the closes mineral patch and then just box 7 drones to move them over to your 3ed or 4th its better to have them move as a transfer then to build and walk them over

@CyanKarateBird

(Diamond player)
davidimv01 2 months ago
@davidimv01
Thanks so much. You don't know how much that helped lol. I was hesitant to stream drones across the map but that helps a ton. Thanks :D

Elli8t 2 months ago
@Picasso43967 actually he doesnt need to be very good himself ;) the best trainers at least within sports aint very good themself (anymore since they got older etc) and some off them never been very good at competing but they just have that overview and mindset which makes them perfect for coaching others in a way that makes them excel beyound anything they could do on their own ^^ (at least that my general experience from 10+ years in elite fighting sports)
Erebus2075 2 months ago
@Erebus2075
Well, that's what I said.
He coaches the pros. He himself therefore knows the idea behind it and has played plenty of it(so he has the mind and the mechanics of him aren't gone be terrible as a direct result).
He is a decent high master/low grand master player. He certainly isn't a pro as the likes of Idra or HuK.

Please make a Terran version. I found this one of the most informative and useful SC2 videos I've ever seen, and I don't even play Zerg.
KyreElador 2 months ago
@KyreElador I agree that it's unbelievably useful, but it's hardly fair to expect a zerg player to make tutorials for another race ;)
Also terran don't have the same initial problems as zerg. They don't suffer as much from lack of scouting or poor defence, the main problems at lower levels of play, and essentially that's what this tutorial boils down to. Terran difficulty spikes at higher levels.
